And where my wife attended HS. Her freshman year was the semester after Schneider graduated. It's also the current school district we live in, and may very well be the HS where my daughter attends in 11 years.
Just wondering out loud if there is any cause for concern with Mike Adams. His surgery was apparently very similar to what Chris Carpenter of the Cardinals had done last year, and now it appears Carpenter's career may be over as the pain and numbness in his shoulder and arm has returned.
Yeah, instead of re-signing Adams they went out and signed Joakim Soria who is coming off his second Tommy John surgery. Makes you think, but Soria is about 7 years younger than Adams which also could have been a factor.
Thought it was interesting that Greg Amsinger of mlb network predicted Ben Revere would win a Gold Glove this year and steal 60 bases. Those are both pretty bold predictions.
Hey Scuba, I wanted to ask you, did you ever take your wife on a date to the Roxy?
Nope, we never went to the Roxy together. I'm not from around here and we don't go to downtown Northampton very much. It's tough going there because it gets so crowded. She went a lot as a kid, but I've never gone with her.
I know they used to have concerts there back in the day, but I think it's just strictly a movie theater now.
I think the last movie I saw there was the animated "An American Tail" but I also remember seeing Poltergeist and Fatal Attraction. Back in the 80's they were only open on weekends. I'm not sure but it may still be that way. And yes, back in the day unknown artists like Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen played the Roxy. Okay, that's enough off topic stuff from me.
Just to keep my post on topic, the Phillies signed a shortstop named Matt Tolbert to a minor league contract. He played parts of 4 seasons with the Twins ('08-'11) but spent 2012 with Iowa in the Cubs organization. The signing of LHP David Newmann to a minor league deal was also finalized. He was once a highly regarded pitcher in the Rays organization but several major injuries has hampered his progress.
After the incident late last season I'm surprised it took this long, but the Phillies traded Michael Schwimer to the Toronto Blue Jays for 22 year old 6'6" 221 pound first baseman Art Charles. It gives the Phillies some young power in the minors, something the organization lacks. Charles hit 13 homers in 212 at bats last year over 2 low minor league levels. He hit just .236 and struck out 74 times. His OBP was .381, SLG .528 and OPS .909.
Here's a short video of Art Charles taking BP in 2012.
Another of the baby aces is gone as the Phillies acquired minor league outfielder Ronnie Welty from the Orioles for RH pitcher Julio Rodriguez. In 2010 Rodriguez was a combined 7-3 1.89 with Williamsport and Lakewood and with Clearwater in 2011 he was 16-7 2.76 with 168 strikeouts in 156.2 IP. Although he still averaged a strikeout an inning with Reading in 2012 he dropped to 7-7 with an ERA of 4.23. He is still only 22 years old. Welty is 25 and hit .286 with 13 HR in 2012, mostly in the Eastern League with AA Bowie.
