Brien Taylor was once a top prospect with the Yankees....when he gets out of prison, if someone throws him in AAA he isn't still a prospectOf course not. It's silly to even make that analogy. Brien Taylor is 40 years old and last played professionally in 2000, 12 years ago. He'll be 42 or 43 when he gets out of prison. He's not Roy Hobbs. The other examples I gave were for guys still in their mid 20's who were never out of professional baseball unless you count Jayson Werth missing a season due to injury.
the Phillies have agreed to a contract with Kevin Frandsen...terms of the agreement were not available...Estimates range somewhere between $1 and $2 million on a 1 year deal.Details now saying the contract base salary is $850,000 with incentives that could bring it to $1.2 million.
That makes more sense . . . A salary of 1m plus for someone who has NEVER produced at a high level and only doing it for half a season seemed crazy, esp with him not exactly being young.
Looks like the Phillies ARE in on Josh Hamilton with them being ok with a high annual salary but not the 7 years he wants. Could a 4yr 90-100m deal with an option for a 5th work? They are also in on Cody Ross . . . They have the money to get both AND THEN get a bullpen piece. With Hamilton and Ross on board they wouldn't exactly have to address 3B . . they would make up the production lost as 3B with Hamilton/Ross. Not many ppl see Ross as an everyday player however I don't think it's crazy to expect a .270/.340/.450-475 slash line outta him with 20plus HRs. He can also be platooned if they felt that would be the best option.
Rollins
Utley
Hamilton
Howard
Ruiz
That would be the 1-5 (after that it could get complicated with platoons of Ruf/Brown, Ross/Brown, Galvis/Frandsen, etc.)
Could also look like this....
Rollins
Utley
Ruiz
Hamilton
Howard
or
Rollins
Utley
Ross
Hamilton
Howard
Ruiz
Only to break up the L-L-L that Utley-Hamilton-Howard would cause.
