I think Jhonny Peralta has good hands a so so arm and no range. It'd be nice to have him as a reserve infielder(the new Ramon Santiago). Aside from Prince Fielder, He's probably the biggest defensive liability. (AA also in the running, IMO). I also think Don Kelly was an actual utility guy, while Ryan Raburn Sucked. (I like that it's past tense now, makes me happy ) The Dbacks seriously are interested in Peralta in exchange for something? I think Upton would cost a lot, like Nicky C, Porcello and Garcia. Maybe not but with his age, he's not getting got on the cheap. (he doesn't really make all that much does he?)

ive always liked drew.....he had a down year last year because of injury, but i still like his uside if he can stay healthy.....i also seen the Tigers are a fit for upton and the Diamondbacks reaslly are interested in peralta? wow...if we can get drew and upton and not give anyone else up in our batting order besides peralta, this team will be tough.....will it come down to.....a "prospect" traded for an MVP caliber player? you know my stand...i dont care for prospects....justin thompson, matt anderson, matt drew, cj nitkowski, Andrew Miller, j turner, c maybin, r strieby, s sizemore, nicky c.........seems like none of the tigers prospects ever become stars.....so i say if you can do it...get it done....you know mr illitch is down for whatever....dont think he wants to wait around for prospects..........woo hoo ryan raturd is a goner!!!!!!!! xmas came early!

I can't see the Tigers paying for Drew.....he was to get 10 mill from the As'.....he is 29 years old......always hurt......he could come here and hit .230....he bats left.....We all have been down on Jhonny this year and agree he had an off year and we know what we get in the field but I would rather hope he has a come back year than spend 10 mill or so on Drew.....

All ready brought up in AZ. Castellanos and Garcia for Upton. Peralta going to AZ would enlarge the deal to include sending another player to Detroit.

AZ does not have to trade Upton....you will have to overwhelm Towers with a package in order to move him. They want a 3B and a starting pitcher (not a bottom of the rotation either.)

I can't see the Tigers overwhelming Towers for someone like Upton.....I don't see the upside......

how good is drews defense? Because he hasnt had a relevant offensive year since 2008 and he was injured for a large lump of the season this year. So unless his defense is unreal, no need.

It would be a wash in my eyes.....Less then stellar batting for less then better defense......The trade would be about other players......Just strait up it's a wash, the rumors are there because it's more then just those two.

I agree with gvsu.  Maybe people hear the name Stephen Drew and think he's an elite SS, because that's what the publicity machine has always said and since he's been mostly in the NL, and on the west coast, we haven't seen much of him.  Sorry to disappoint; he is not an elite SS.  Far from it.  In fact, I would say he is possibly most like, among current ML SS's ... Jhonny Peralta.  Believe me, it is very debateable whether he is better than Peralta.  They are both very inconsisternt from one year to the next.  But, even worse, Drew is injury prone.  Drew might be a little bit better defender, but I don't think it's a big enough difference, especially factoring in injury risk, to justify a change.

Some numbers for comparison:

Career Avg-Slg-OBP:

Peralta .264 - .422 - .327

Drew .265 - .433 - .328

And they are both all over the map from one year to the next.  Oh, and in case anyone thinks Drew is a lot younger.  He is younger ... by one year.

They are pretty much the same player.

One more thing.  They would have a hard time getting Drew in a trade involving Upton.  Drew is in Oakland, not Arizona.

I don't care about Stephen Drew coming to the Tigers or not. But JP has to have the worst range of any shortstop in the AL.

If the Tigers carry this out.,. It will only looks good if Drew is completely healty and has no lingering effects... If not this could be a disaster.. And I am all for trading for Upton but it's a calculated risk as well.. He may end up being a Delmon Young clone and never live up to his potential.. I doubt we have enough pieces but I would love to trade the farm for Mike Stanton..

Delmon Young is the Tigers all time HR leader in the playoffs....i dont like the guy, but he wasnt that bad...just sucked in the field and on the bases...and could of took a pitch or 2.....upton live up to his potential? hes had 4 straight solid years....and he steals a few bases...i dont follow arizona...what is uptons problem? what did he do so bad? i remember him being in the MVP talk 2 years ago...what happened that fans dont want to give up two prospects that might never pan out for a pretty solid all around player....detroit has never stayed away from players with off field problems...i remember a certain someone just 2 years ago downing a bottle of scotch yelling at police do you know who i am......so what is uptons issues? and thats a serious question because i dont follow the dbacks........and as many dont like drew.....johnny p outside of potato head and raturd has always been one of my least favorite tigers.

Thank you! You guys were confusing the hell out of me. Not like it's hard.
No idea why Detroit would be looking at Drew. JP has no range, I'd have to agree with that, but replacing him for a .230 average 29-year old player who played no other position but SS sounds like a bad idea...
There are several positives in JP: he is durable, does have good hands and in his down year still was 5th in HRs and 4th in RBIs among AL shortstops. Too many groundballs passed by him, but can Detroit really do much better? If Detroit wanted to trade JP away, it should have been done last year.
If I was to make a move, I'd try and get Tyler Greene type of utility player, get JP to lose another 6-8 lbs and throw a bank at another starter. But that's just me.

Upton while decent athletically, has shown a tendency to strike out a lot and was not good at all last year.. He could be like his brother in that we are waiting for that breakout year... He's had two solid year for sure and one simi-breakout.. But people were expecting 40 HR power with 30 steals... In other words, people were expecting him to be another Bruan and you can't say he's done that yet..

Iffy,
Are you a HURON or an eagle?  If a HURON, may I suggest huronalumni.org as a resolution to an Eastern Michiagan dilemma.  The HURON name and mascot were changed in 1991, and since that decision, I have disassociated myself from the university.

ONCE A HURON, ALWAYS A HURON. Class of 1972.
