In hindsight, prolly Rod Allen. But since Jack Morris tossed that no-no against the White Sox about a week before I turned 3....... I didnt really follow things too closely. I'm sure Ryan Raburn was a sucky two-year old at the time though. Bobbling his sippy cup, knocking his teddy bear out the crib, trying to slam square pegs in round holes.....

Gramps has been fishing for a conversation with my all over the place lately. Not gonna happen though, Old Man Winter isn't using the right bait. Anybody think Armando Galarraga pitches for the Reds this season?

How could anyone slam Rusty Kuntz? Muzz....you have got it all wrong. You slam Milt Wilcox,Yes. Larry Herndon, Yes, Howard Johnson, Yes.....but Rusty? Players like Rusty you FIND things to like about them. Things like - he was always on time for the games, he was the best on the team playing Hearts, and he never hogged the showers.

There wasnt many to choose from, from the 84 team.....i never liked marty castillo, but thats because i was a big parrish fan....same when i used to hate bill fahey. Remember being young going to the game and fahey started at catcher, i was so mad parrish wasnt playing......when i was young i didnt like brookens.....as i got older i grew to like him......larry herndon? I loved me some larry herndon. Maybe a bill scherrer or sid monge? Sparky wouldnt steadily play a bum year after year tho like leyland did with raburn and inge. If anything sparky would give up on a player sometimes too quick....just like when they got rid of hojo.

The real dog of the 1984 team was Darrell Evans.  Hit .232 with just 16 HR.  Must have been first-year adjustment to a new league and playing DH a lot, because he had 40-HR and 34-HR seasons later on with the Tigers.  But who cares, they won the WS.

Max avoids arb. One year at 6.725 Mil. So that means we sit at around 147 Mil for 1 players. As expected with the many arb cases and Hunter opening day payroll probably right around 150 mil. still around 15-17 mil short of the luxury tax. Should a move need to be made in the season.

Keith Laws Tigers top 10

Nick
Garcia
Rondon
Collins
vasquez
suarez
schotts
thompson
crosby
Robinson

well I guess the first three are no brainers. But last years second rounder Jake Thompson has barely pitched and Robinson really hasn't cracked any other top twenty . Steven Moya should be in the top 10. I have to admit barely knowing who Montreal Robinson is. I do know who Moya is. Moya a huge 6-7 270 lb outfielder with tremendous power.

Adrian, do you REALLY think the Tigers have a good minor league system?  Looking at the Tigers org without Tigers colored glasses reveals a very flawed system.  The minor league team W-L records last year supports that position as well, with an overall 393-432 record last year which includes the two highest classification teams, Toledo and Erie, having horrible records last year.

No I do not think their system is all that great. However I wouldn't even look at w/l records ever as any indication. one thing to consider is the trades and picks they have given up for players.

in the last 2 years this is what the Tigers have given up to obtain players

first round for prince who is 28

Turner and Brantley for Infante and Sanchez who are 30 and 28

Martinez, furbush, wells and first round pick Ruffin for 28 year old (now) Fister.

first round pick to sign Victor.

Players most productive seasons are from 26 to 33 so the Tigers have sent a fair amount of talent for guys who with the exception of Vmart in the prime of their careers. Tigers only starter older than 30 is Vmart.

The only real problem is getting players after the first round to be productive. Only Dirks and Avila have been non first round picks that are contributing.

I agree that the Tigers are set up to benefit from big time players in their prime.  The trades and free agent acquisitions worked out very well.  They managed to swap 2 good prospects and some fringe prospects and picks for some real major league talent.  We should give DD some credit for that.

But of course that doesn't factor into anyone's rankings of minor league systems.  If anything, at best it helps explain why the minor league system is not very good.  I have a hard time faulting Laws for ranking the Tigers minor league org as #26 in the league.  Realistically, it's probably about right.

And I know W-L records have to be taken with a grain of salt when it comes to evaluating the org.  Not totally useless, but not a perfect indicator either.  I do think, however, that the poor records of Toledo and Erie last year reflect the lack of many real prospects at those levels.  The talent in the upper minors for the Tigers is not very good.

Reported today......

[""According to SI's Tom Verducci], the name of Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta appears in the records of the Biogenesis clinic that's being investigated by MLB as a possible supplier of PEDs. Peralta's name is not mentioned in connection with any specific banned substance.

As Verducci notes, Peralta's attorney, Barry Boss, released a statement from his client: "I have never used performance-enhancing drugs. Period. Anybody who says otherwise is lying."

The 30-year-old Peralta is coming off a season in which he batted .239/.305/.384 and tallied 13 homers and 32 doubles in 150 games played.""

-----

Well....if Mr. Peralta was using PED last season - he should ask for his money back. They didn't work!

Felix Hernandez gets a 7 year, $175 million contract today. No doubt that paves the way for a larger one for Justin Verlander. I see a 7 year deal for JV to get very close to $200 million.

the jhonny alleged accusations may call into question his 2011 season. Highest OPS since 2005, hr total since 2008 and highest BA for his career. Since he didn't however fail a drug test in 2011 may just lead to suspicion. however if he breaks out another 2012 season the murmurs will get louder.

It really depends on how soon JV wants to re-negotiate. If he waits until his contract is up and he continues to pitch well, you are probably right. If he signs over the next 6 months his contract will be similar to Felix's, maybe an additional $5M.
