Dime a dozen? He's one in a million.....He's going to have a Magglio ST this year......
Believe me, I hope you're right muzz. But he has had a very up and down path through pro ball. Almost every team has .260 avg / .415 slg enigmas in their organization. His minor league numbers were pretty poor for someone without speed or defense until his 2009 season. Since then he had a 1/2 of a good year in Detroit in 2010, and about 3/5 of a good year in Detroit in 2011. Hopefully just a late bloomer, but I won't be holding my breath.
It's ok to exhale.....BB is the hidden weapon.....He figured out how to hit Left handed pitching......I'll be working hard to finalize his next contract after his ST numbers......
I've heard that the Tigers are working on a long term deal for BB, but BB will have to spend some time in the minors. The overall plan is to win the WS this year and next. Then cut payroll by trading Prince and A. Sanchez to the Dodgers in a three-way deal with an unnamed team. The Tigers get back a young, slick fielding SS and 2nd base duo. Next, Jhonny Peralta, Torii Hunter, V Mart, and JL retire, while DD moves upstairs. Gibson and Trammel come back to the Tigers as Manager and GM, respectively. Miggy returns to 1st base and Nick C and BB are brought up. BB becomes the DH/OF, and Rick P--who was not traded precisely because this deal was in the making--goes on to average 22 to 27 wins a year for the next 10 years.
Evidently, I should have included Rick Porcello as an option in my future HOF poll. I apologize for my lack of foresight. Just one question, where does Patrick Leyland bat in the order?
Muzz makes a good point. Boesch 'could' be a secret weapon. It appears that no other team will give a used kleenex for him....so Detroit might as well keep their fingers crossed that he finds whatever talent he has and puts up good numbers this spring. If he flops (again) - nothing lost really. He just becomes an expensive AAA outfielder/DH.
Kind of hope that DD is talking to Scott Hairston and his agent. The guy has some pop in his bat and can play all 3 outfield spots. I think he wants two years on a deal...I wouldn't offer him that, but a nice increase from his last season's salary of $1.1 mil (say $3-4 million) I'd go for. He'd become the #4 outfielder and (if VMart struggles) an emergency DH.
Hairston is going to play in NY........have an other dream Iffy.......must be some Bback left overs you could send our way.....I think Boesch would fit in well in the desert.....nothing would be be better for your and Muzzs relationship......just think You, Muzz, BB and the desert and you guts making out on the Dback boards......love is in the air
D'Backs don't need another outfielder. I am sure they have someone at the AAA level, just as good as Boesch.
Like to see Willie Bloomquist or John McDonald go to Detroit as spare parts. And of course they have a good Michigan guys in J.J. Putz and Josh Collmenter. Here is a deal....Collmenter, Bloomquist and McDonald to Tigers for Peralta and Worth.
[Tigers can send Denard Robinson to AZ instead of Worth. Denard can do ANYTHING according to some. Right Mr. Cleaves?]
Lol right iffy. For once im gonna agree with you....hell the Tigers could draft denard and play him in CF. he could make catches from RF foul line all the way to the LF foul line......can u imagine all the HR's he would get? Just bunt and he gets a 3B. A bloop single becomes an inside the park HR for him......hes like the fastest guy ever ever. He could be like bugs bunny....pitch the ball and still track down a deep fly ball to CF. Have you seen this guys speed? Hes incredible. How did michigan ever lose with his speed? Lol ok im done for real now. Imagine him playing basketball tho....he'd get a fastbreak layup after the other team makes a basket....hes so fast he'd run right by the defense. I mean the kid is quicker than the road runner.....meep meep.....ok im really done now, but dang is he fast....never seen nuthin like it my whole life.
cleaves....is D faster than Cool Papa Bell was? Negro leauge stories say.....He was so fast he could turn out the light and be under the covers before it got dark.....
And cleaves....don't forget - Denard is a 'leader'. (Isn't he a four sport star? Maybe the Wings could draft him!)
Only problem with Denard becoming a Tiger??? He can't throw. Maybe he could be a 1B. One good thing - unlike football, when you throw the ball to another player in baseball - they usually aren't moving.
Still don't understand how same year arbitrations result in Brennan Boesch making 2.3 mils and Alex Avila making 2.95. How does a starting catcher one year removed from the all-star appearance make 25% more than barely a major-leaguer.
The Upton brothers will be playing together in Atlanta. The upside has big potential for the Braves. They trade away Martin Prado in the package deal so the DBacks have a solid 3B and all around player in Prado.
Prado is a FA after this season and although the minor leaguers they got in return have potential nothing struck me as a sure thing. I like what Colorado got for Jimenez more than what the D-Backs got for Upton.
I know hindsght is 20/20 but I think Detroit could have put together a better deal with Porcello and Garcia or Castallanos package.
I have to believe that AZ spoke with Prado before this deal was done and feels good about resigning him. It wouldn't surprise me to see an extension announced before P's and C's report. I like this deal for the Braves if the sum of the Upton brothers is greater than the parts. DBacks will be trying to stay above water in a tough division.
I agree jalopy - if Prado walks after this season, the D'Backs are big losers in this deal. You have to think AZ feels it has a shot at resigning him. I like Prado's versatility but regardless of what I think about Upton, he isn't his equal at the plate.
Upton's clubhouse personality has not been good. I am sure this deal was more about getting rid of a player's personality than it was moving a player who has not lived up to expectations. This is Kirk Gibson's team and I don't think he and Upton meshed from day one.
As for Detroit - I don't think they had/have the prospects to swing a deal with AZ. And, I don't think the need to get Upton is that high for Detroit.

I didn't think the Tigers had eneough either until I saw what the D-Backs got for him. Plus I wouldn't trade with Atlanta for anything they usually end up kicking a teams azs in the deal.
