Did ya'll seriously think ND could compete w/SEC

lawdawg we arent talking about any other bowls....just the NC.
Your rules, not mine. When the posts start getting on us for nad hanging, you have to give the full picture. That's all I'm doing. While I enjoyed the Bama win, as a Dawg fan do you really think I only take pride in Bama's win? 12-2 with a damn good show in the SECCG, plus a bowl win makes me happy. Not as happy as a NC, but only one team can do that per year.

By the way, being part of the NC by conference association is actually kind of nice. You should try it some time in the next few decades.
this is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard...why not celebrate every teams win? they are all apart of Division 1...where does it end?

For me it's not so much being a conference guy as it is just saying, "man it happened again". It's amazing imo, so much stuff has to go right for a team in a conference JUST TO GET THERE, less known WIN the big one 7 times in a rown. It's like when Jordan was winning titles, it just feels inevitable that a SEC team will get to the NC game. It won't go on for the rest of time(atleast I think), but just thinking that 1 conference can produce 7 straight titles in this day and age is mind boggling

You don't hear much if that is the most rediculous thing you ever heard. Go back and study the conference threads where it is discussed. It won't change your mind, but if you are open-minded you might understand where we come from even if you disagree.

This in my opinion is a figment of your imagination, and you  and your team have zip to do with these wins, but to each his or her own. However, I could never cheer on a pac-12 team...never, so the love affair folks in the south have with the sec does not compute with me. I could give my opinion(s); however, no reason to create animosity, so I'll keep it to myself.  If it makes you all feel good, then I say good for you. I just don't get it or agree with it.

"the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard" is just an expression....you should go back to your conference thread and suck each other....i know you or your conference fan boys will never see where us non conference homers are coming from, so i guess keep riding the coat tails of your superiors and have fun being associating yourself with your rival's national championship, i am sure they dont mind because they are successful!  You can call yourselves roadies...

There is an unbending argument between SEC backers and those who are non- SEC believers.  I see it, and neither side is going to change its opinion.  Fair enough.  There is also an "any given day" aspect to these games.  Any given day, Louisville can beat an unmotivated Florida Team.  Any given day, ANYBODY can beat LSU when Les is coaching like a moron... I get that too.  Just saying, at the end of the day, for 7 yrs in a row, an SEC Team was the best.  It was Alabama this year and last.  They were the best team in College football for 2 yrs in a row.  They beat LSU this year in the 59th minute of the game because of Les Miles.  They lost to Texas A&M, who lost to LSU and Florida.  They could have lost to Georgia in the SEC Championship game.  It is a cyclical argument.  Other teams have had a crack against SEC teams in Championship games, and failed.  That is why the pro SEC sentiment is so strong... Ohio St; Oklahoma; Oregon; Notre Dame... they have all had a crack to shut the pro- SEC crowd up, and failed.  Also, failed miserably.  Until a non- SEC team steps up, and beats an SEC team in the big game, these arguments are going to be around.  I watched EVERY play of EVERY LSU game this year... Guess what?  LSU lost 3 games, and they were all from coaching gaffes at the end of the game, except arguably Florida early on... Any true LSU fan believes that should have been LSU playing Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.  Any Georgia fan probably feels that Georgia (who arguably out- played Alabama in the SEC Championship) should have been playing (and crushing) ND last night.  Until someone non SEC puts up... everyone else needs to shut up. The numbers don't lie... 7 in a row and it would still be 7 in a row if LSU or Georgia or A&M would have played last night.  Don't jump on Alabama's glory train NOW... Everyone should have tooted Bama's horn 40 days ago, when they won the deFacto National Championship.

i know you or your conference fan boys will never see where us non conference homers are coming from

But it's clearly apparent where you are "coming" from...  what's so ironically funny is seeing the "team fanboys" claiming some moral victory by putting down "conference fanboys" for their own non-involved moral victory sense of satisfaction.  Pot meet kettle.

OK, so let's have all the "team fanboys" whose team is nowhere in the post season picture dictating "proper fanship etiquette" in their vain attempt at non-participatory self-esteem enhancement... (ie. message board Enzyte, come get you some), lol!

You can have all the message board Enzyte you want... yum-yum bon appetite!

A Michigan fan giving me grief. LOL. You have 1 shared NC since the 1940s, and you want to give me grief? Take a look at your win percentage since your last shared NC and tell me how UM compares with UGa. It isn't pretty. Hate on, hater!

MikeD ...

Can you tell me how many SEC teams were in the Top 5, Top 10? I can't find it anywhere and thought you could help me out?

Ok, really I know ... 3 of the top 5, 5 of the top 10, 7 of the top 20 ... that's the first time ever that a conference has had 50% of the top 10. So, yes, some of us enjoyed Bama's win, but our top teams did just fine in their own right.

By the way, being part of the NC by conference association is actually kind of nice. You should try it some time in the next few decades.
Who cares where a team finishes the season ranked?!?  If you don't win the National Championship, you finished in the same spot as everyone else.  You know what 2nd place is?  The first loser.

And I guess if I was a Georgia fan, I would resort to cheering on teams like Alabama too, as you know you aren't going to win a championship any time soon.  The closest Georgia is going to get to a National Championship game is to be in the conference by association.  Speaking of the next few decades -- As a Georgia fan -- I'd guess you know all about that, as they haven't been relevant since 1980.

I am now starting to understand the thought process of the SEC teams -- they know they aren't going to actually play in a National Championship on their own, but they will hitch their ride on to the select few who will, just so they can feel like they are part of the something.  Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

Why does it have to be black and white with any discussions like this? Are you only allowed to follow one college team? I didn't know that was in the 'fan' rules.  I can't be a Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings fan at the same time? Its humerous people like you throw out this 'riding the coat tails' moniker given to SEC Fans.  What are you trying to imply?  That since I'm happy that Alabama won and they are in the SEC, i think that's a victory for my own team? Do you honestly think I'm that mental?  It's a pure preference I have.  I would rather any SEC team win than any NON SEC team.  On a second level... I would want any Big12, Pac12, or B1G win over the ACC.  If it was a NC game against B1G and an ACC team... I would pull for the B1G team.  With the exception of NC State, I flat out hate most ACC teams.  What's wrong with this line of thought?  Oh yeah, i must not be a true South Carolina fan if I enjoy watching another team playing football.  I guess i'm also screwed with the NFL and have to stop following the Vikings and stick with my 'living in the 80s' NFL team... Dolphins.

South Carolina has been one of the few teams to actually beat Alabama in the past few years.  Can your team say the same?

If you don't see why I pull for Alabama because of this, then your vague definition of family is a lot different than mine. I want to be the only one that beats up on my brothers.

BTW, after how I saw LSU and Florida perform... I was thinking there was a good chance that ND might actually beat Alabama.  Any team with a great QB could make a game with Alabama this year.  Alabama 2011 is still there best team in the last 4 years.

vehemon,

there is a difference between having a rooting interest in a team winning and then starting a thread to brag about alabama's win and you have LSU listed as your favorite team.  then the overwhelming majority of comments about the SEC are from Georgia, South Carolina, LSU, etc. fans.  it isn't Alabama, the team that actually played in the game talking trash -- it is fans of teams who weren't even involvded in the game.

THAT is pathetic and the reason why people are making the 'riding the coattails' comments.

No! you are not fitting the paradigm they are setting forth in the discussion!  You are cheering for a team that's not yours to win the NC simply because they are in the SEC therefore you are 'partly claiming' the win for Georgia.  There can be no other reason. None whatsoever.
