Where are all the QUALIFIED black HCs?

January 18, 2013 8:53 pm

Dude, an NFL COACH. There's a history of black NFL coaches NOT being successful.

Dude, there's a history of white coaches not being successful too.  even more so, there's a history of white coaches who were not successful and still got otehr head coachign jobs.  How many times has Norv Turner gotten a head job? There still hasn't been but, what, 20 or so black head coaches.  2 of them won superbowls.  that's 10 percent.  Do 10% of white coaches win superbowls?  A 3rd one has coached in a Superbowl.  You're statement holds no water.

This year, there weren't ANY qualified head coaches that were black who were better than anyone that was hired.

I don't know and I haven't said any different.

It has nothing to do with college basketball, where I'm sure over 70% of the players are African Americans.

It has to do with how many white players are in the NBA.  I didn't bring it up, someone else did.

Name 3 black candidates who are more qualified than the coaches who got hired if race played a role.

Again, I didn't say there were.

Where are all the QUALIFIED black HCs?

January 18, 2013 9:03 pm

The problem this year is that none of the current black coaches out there were as highly qualified for an NFL job as the other guys like Andy Reid and Chip Kelly were.

I'm sorry, I don't like Lovie Smith myself but what makes Andy Reid or especially Chip Kelly more qualified than Lovie Smith?

The problem with this started when a minority columnist decided to post an article talking about how there weren't any black coaches hired this off-season even though they weren't as good at doing their job as the white coaches that were hired, which is absolute BS and a cry for attention like that race always likes to pull.

No, the problem started with white people who took offense to his opinion and decided to spout off about it.  You have no idea whether it's BS or not.  You have no idea whether some of the black coaches out here would have been better hires than Gus Bradley or Mike McCoy, who ever the hell they are.  Don't act like you know.

I cannot believe you lack the common sense to understand what I'm saying.

Oh, no, you've been clear about what you're saying.  "I'm part of the superior race who are better suited to be head coaches and you crime committing colored folk need to go back to Africa."

No, you just try to ignore it.  Race is still every relevant.  I'm not sure at what point in this country that good white people who helped fight for the rights of all people got the idea in their heads that the fight was over but it's not.  Minorities still fight everyday for equality.

Andy Reid and lovie smith are a wash, but chip Kelly is supposed to be a hot prospect or whatever. He has more upside than the other two.

You just said there isn't a more qualified black candidate than the ones hired. Making it not an issue in this case. People starting issues over shit**** where race isn't playing a role is one of the biggest reason places where it's actually an issue don't get the attention they should. You can't play the race card everywhere and expect people to listen to.

Chip Kelly is a hot prospect who has always been very successful so far in his coaching career. Just look at what he did in Oregon for example. Look at the kind of advice he gave the best coach in the NFL game right now, Bill Billichick. Andy Reid is one guy though, and certain owners perfer a guy that fits what they want from their team. Both coaches have their flaws, and choosing one over the other doesn't mean it has anything to do with race.

Nobody took offense to his opinion. The fact that the columnist (Mike Freeman) is a colored individual crying out for attention that his buddies aren't getting hired enough around the NFL even though they aren't what the owners are looking for. Owners don't hire based on race... They're smart enough to hire based on who is the best and who gives them the best chance to win.

It's obvious that you're a black individual that's crying for attention just like Mike Freeman did, so just stop replying to me, because I feel like I'm wasting my time with a biased viewer who can't see the whole picture.

Minorities still fight everyday for equality.
They do?

Last time I checked, employers didn't discriminate based on race.

Bathrooms were for people of every race.

Water fountains can be used by both black and white people.

Public transport, for example, seats on a city bus aren't assigned based on race.

Black people have their own TV channel.

Black and white people have an equal opportunity to receive an equal education from college and public schools, and aren't seperated based on race anymore.

It's more than fair... But African American's fail to realize it.

Chip is not proven in the NFL.  He's never even been an assistant in the NFL.  It's a pure guessing game whether he has more upside than Lovie.

There are most certainly places where race is still an issue. He's not wrong about that. But pulling the race card on everything just makes it worse.

Being a good college coach has always been a decent way to get hired. Fact is the guy who's new and the OT candidate will always get more attention than one who has had a solid but not special career. Race didn't have the tiniest bit of an impact.

No, what I said was I don't know and I won't speculate than there are any just like you guys shouldn't speculate that the white candidates are better.

the author of the article was simply wondering why, I would guess.  But a lot of white people seem to take offense anytime race is brought into a discussion. Everyone wants to act like they aren't racist and if no one is racist then racism wouldn't still be an issue but it is.

How is it speculation? Which black candidates have a resume that should have put them in the discussion? That's all that matters. The resume.

Listen, I wouldn't have had a problem with the Eagles hiring Lovie Smith. But I would rather have the Eagles start with a fresh, young coach that's always been great at what he's done, and I like how he runs his offenses. I think Chip Kelly was a better option than somebody who just got fired from their job. I think Chip Kelly gets the most out of his players, wereas Lovie Smith doesn't. If it were really that big of a deal, Lovie would have pulled the race card instead of Mike Freeman. Apparently Mike Freeman and the majority of the African American population thinks the world owes them something. It's amazing how Asians, Latinos, and every other race act just fine, but African American's seem to make a big deal about everything, and really, it's gets annoying and it'll get under people's skin.

I don't need attention.  the OP asked for opinions and specifically asked for black opinions on it so if you keep replying to me I'll keep replying to your ignorant non-sense. And seriously, you don't think your opinion is biased?
