Well the debate now gets really interesting. Schneider was pulled last night after allowing 5 goals. It may have been a case of being rusty and the team not ready, but now that the microscope has shifted from Luongo to Schneider, this could be an interesting drama.
For the money involved, I always thought it a little crazy that people thought the Canucks should get rid of Luongo. I guess Cory will have to prove he is a full time starter.
Luongo should come in a steal the show, then turn around and demand to be traded. Then after he's traded, when he's at the airport, about to board the plane, turn around and give the finger to the whole city of vancouver.
Howard, Backstrom, Theodore and a whole bunch of late 20s goalies going into UFA status this summer. Significant list of starters for 2014 including Lundquist, Kipper, Miller, Hiller, and some lesser number 1s like Crawford and Dubnyk.
Plenty of RFAs that have potential coming up soon too. Goalie market is going to be very cheap compared to most years after this year.
Cap situation looking rough for Vancouver given players in contract year even if Luongo is move and Ballard is bought out. Gillis has to decide to double-down on this year or prepare to take it in the shorts for the next two.
NW isn't going to be the dumpster division it's been for so long next year, a couple good lines won't be enough to compensate for weaker depth after this year. Gillis needs to keep the depth strong, the system isn't very good right now.
It seemed like the agents outside of Walsh (top 3 NHL dbags) have been pretty quiet for the 3 years prior to the last 10 months. Now they've seemed to get a little louder and more obnoxious again like they were 5, 6, 7 years ago. I was really enjoying the relative quiet from their end. Now it seems we're back to the b.s. where the agent of every player that doesn't have everything they want for their client has give interviews and grab headlines again.
Makes it tougher to like players that continue to hire agents that do this stuff.
