Complete List of Deadline Trade Ideas

January 20, 2013 3:38 pm

Trade Idea #1:
Washington trades Emeka Okafor to San Antonio for DeJuan Blair and the expiring contract of Stephen Jackson - In my opinion, the Spurs are one piece away from overtaking the Thunder and winning another title, and that piece is Okafor.  Timmy needs some help protecting the rim.

Trade Idea #2:
Golden State trades Richard Jefferson and a protected 1st round pick in 2015 to Cleveland in exchange for the expiring contracts of Luke Walton and Boobie Gibson - Cavs swallow a contract while taking a first round pick.  Jefferson also played for Byron Scott in New Jersey.

Trade Idea #3:
Philadelphia trades Jason Richardson to Milwaukee for Drew Gooden - This is a swap of has-been veterans with similar contracts.  J-Rich instantly becomes an amnesty candidate this summer if he is traded to the Bucks.  He has connections with Monta Ellis and Mike Dunleavy from their time in Golden State.

Trade Idea #4:
Phoenix trades Marcin Gortat to Dallas in exchange for Chris Kaman and Bernard James - Mark Cuban and Dirk Nowitzki still believe their team can compete right now, and Gortat is a signficant upgrade defensively over Kaman, who is playing on a one-year deal.  Gortat had signed his offer sheet with the Mavs before Orlando surprisingly matched it.

Trade Idea #5:
Denver trades Timofey Mozgov to Miami for a 2016 2nd round pick - It's not like the Heat have a surplus of young talent they can offer.  Norris Cole?  Haha.  So if they want to make upgrades at the deadline, this may be the best they can do.

It looks as if Memphis is going to hang onto Rudy Gay for at least the rest of the season.  He is overpaid though and they still need depth.

And to "Logic", if the Pistons were truly interested in Josh Smith, I think they're better off going after him this summer when he becomes a free agent.  Then they could trade Prince to a team like the Clippers who's in need of some real wing options, perhaps for the expiring contract of Caron Butler.  To make room, you could amnesty either Stuckey or Villanueva (I would go Stuckey).

Feel free to share your thoughts or ideas.

I wasn't suggesting that they would be interested in him long term.  A trade for Prince and Maxiell would improve the team this year and then his contract goes off the books, unless he meshes really well (hard to imagine) and then they could try and resign him.  But with both Maggette and Smith potenitally of the books it could free a lot of $$$ for a free agent(s) (though not sure who) and they have bodies to platoon the SF also, though that is never a good option.

I just don't see the point of going after Smith when your team is that many games back of the #8 seed.  You already have a lot of cap relief coming as it is.  Plus, Atlanta is looking to clear cap space as well.  They're not going to want Tayshaun Prince.

You are dead on with Tim Duncan needing help at the low post.

We need an actual PG wayyy more than Josh Smith. Seeing what Will Bynum does with Andre Drummond on the court is spectacular..just think if we had an actual point guard that wasn't 3 feet tall to play with him.

Bump.  Where does everyone see Redick fitting?  How about to Memphis for Ed Davis and Austin Daye?

I'm not sure Memphis is allowed to trade Davis and Daye so quickly. I believe a certain amount of time has to pass before you can trade a player that you just traded for and I believe that period of time doesn't expire until after this season's trade deadline. I may be wrong about that.

Not sure what J.J.'s salary is, but I could see Memphis acquiring him for the trade exception we got in the Cleveland deal. That would be sweet. If Prince and Davis mesh like I think they will, Reddick could be the final piece for a team that will be one nobody wants to play come playoff time.

And Lakersrule, I think that rule only applies to free agents you have signed. I could be wrong about that, but it doesn't make sense for traded players. We got Calderon from Toronto in the Gay deal and immediately traded him to Detroit for Prince and Daye

Trades you listed makes sense, but I don't believe some of them will happen. #3 is the head scratcher because J-Rich would be at best on the bench not getting a lot of playing time because the guards in front of them.

I'd think PHX would want more for Gortat. Kaman won't do them any favors. Don't know much about the James dude.

Does GS want rid of Jefferson? I know he has been playing well.Walton stinks and Boobie won't get much playing time with Curry as the starter. In yet, he gets injured a lot so.....

My Lakers brethren didn't feel too good about it plus some players change because Sully is out but here you go...Lakers trade Pau and Artest get Pierce Garnett and Shved...Celtics trade Pierce Garnett Bradley and Green and 1st round pick top3 protected get KLove Pekovich Artest and Ridnour...Wolves trade Love Pekovich and Ridnour get Pau Green Bradley and 1st round pick Celtics...money clears what do you think...?

don't think the Celtics would move PP, KG, Bradley and Green (and a pick) for Love, Pekovich, Artest and Ridnour. Why would they do it?  Doesn't make much sense for the Celtics.

That is a very drastic trade for all three teams, two of which still in the Playoff hunt.  Don't see Minnesota giving up on Love this quickly, and throwing in Pekovic is just pure cluelessness.

Where are the Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap trade ideas?
I think the Jazz are going to go all in with this current roster and let their contracts expire.  Of the upcoming upcoming free agents in Utah, Mo Williams is the only one I could see returning to the team next season even though he is currently hurt, as all he has backing him up are a couple of old guys.  I wouldn't guarantee even that, though.  Detroit is going to have a boat loaf of cap space and will likely look for a pure PG.  I could also see Williams and his big game experience ending up there...

Yeah it is a huge deal but here is my thinking...Minn would be the one who gets the least IMO...the Celtics get the best pieces IMO...Love Pek and Ridnour is worth much more to the future of this team than Pierce and Garnett at this point and with Rondo out Ridnour can play now and back him up next year...they are in rebuild right now with this deal and have Love and Rondo to build around...they take Artest as a rental for getting the best deal...also how better to let to of your two old stars than to give them a chance on the way out...the Lakers get 2pieces that they need and a future PG possibly...no brainer for them...Minn is the key because they have interest in Pau as it has been said...but is Green Badley and a 1st rounder enough for KLove and Pek...I know they wanted to move Pek and KLove is unhappy...this move gives them Rubio... Bradley... Green... DWilliams... Pau... That's a very similar team to the Kings that Adleman seems to want in Minn...I think all teams benefit...

Well for one the Celtics don't make the Playoffs if they make this deal, because Love is out.  I just don't see why Minnesota would give up Pekovic for any reason, as I believe he will be a RESTRICTED free agent.  Without him, this team really softens up.  You sold Derrick Williams is the future there?  I just don't know...

Plus Bradley as a starting SG?  The only reason he did so in Boston was because of the guys around him.

I don't see my trade idea #2 going through at this point.  The Cavs got their pick in the Memphis deal, and Jefferson has been a solid veteran presence of the bench for Golden State even if he isn't playing much.  They'll probably stick it out with him and keep their pick.

If my trade idea #3 goes through, Philadelphia would need to empty out some frontcourt depth.  They could make a smaller move by tradign Kwame Brown and a future 2nd rounder for Omri Casspi and Josh Selby, two guys the Cavs have little interest in playing.  Another salary dump.

The trades involving Minnesota are so insane I won't even go into it. I love how fans of certain teams think the smaller market teams are just lining up to help them, freakin' redonkulous.
