Let's just agree Nos this conversation is getting old, facts are as I have said all along you don't have to be a passing team to win in the NFL and i've proved it, let's move on shall we?

Or it could mean they aren't passing teams and the reason they are in the Super Bowl is because their defenses pitched a 2nd half shutout in the conference championship games.


The fact is that statement is false.....The 49ers were down 17-0 to start the game and 24-14 at half time. Pitching a shut out is fine in the second half but without the offence over coming a 17-0 defecit it wouldn't have mattered. Same goes for the Ravens, down 13-7 at half. They didn't find success scoring until the switched thier offence in the second have to a more aggressive passing offence...and again, if they had not made that change the defence pitching a shut out in the second half may not have mattered.

Neither team finished higher than 15th in passing yards, td's or attempts. I honestly don't understand how you can argue that. Just because they were forced to pass more in the playoffs doesn't mean they are passing teams, freakin' amazed you just don't get it.

More facts for ya hutch. Atlanta was 23rd in the league against the pass, New England was 29th in the league against the pass. Even if you aren't a passing team wouldn't it make sense to pass a little against both teams? Atlanta was 7th in scoring offense and New England was 1st in scoring offense, don't ya think the coaching staffs for the 49ers and Ravens knew they would have to pass a little to have a chance against these high scoring teams? I never said the Niners and Ravens couldn't pass, I just stated they are not passing teams, which they are not. Even with that said the Falcons still threw for more yards than the 49ers and the Patriots still threw for more yards than the Ravens. The Falcons were 6th in the league in passing offense, the Patriots were 4th in the league in passing offense and both of those teams lost. Ignore the facts all ya like buddy, doesn't make them any less factual.

The fact you keep wanting to deny it when it's more than obvious is beyond me. Hutch, look in the mirror when it comes to the stubborn part.  The thing that really bothers me with conversations between you and me is you "agree" with something I will say then run a big circle around the topic finally posting complete opposite views. In the end you take just a really long time to finally tell me you are right and that I was wrong, maybe to lessen confrontation.  Not on every topic.  And maybe you aren't trying to do that, but it happens.

Look, you both make valid points and respect both of your views but realistically, a team has to be able to do both pass and run when required. If a team is run heavy and it falls behind badly, they have to be able to move the ball through the air otherwise they're toast for the most part and then again, if a team is pass heavy and has a large lead it must be able to control the clock by running the ball to keep the opposing team from getting back in the game.

We all can argue/debate that the league is a pass oriented league that wins games or that a great run game and defense with some passing can win games but IMO you have to be able to do both to be sucessfull for the most part. Yes there are exceptions but it isn't the norm.

Now that I have been pulled into this debate / hornets nest please go ahead and bash me as I have broad shoulders and am a big boy.

 

I do look in the mirror......I think if you start at pretty much every conversation Nos and I have had you will find that the first person to rag on each others post is Nos. If you look Simmion I only make a statements that someone is being ignorant or stubborn if they make them first and in this thread as in others Nos did so first........I'd really like to see where I actually started a post attacking someone in the manner you have stated without being provoct first.

Back to the topic at hand.....The simplest FACT is you pay for importance.....that's fact in any business. The more important the positions to a companies success is paid the most and all the way down the line to the entry level positions. Using the league averages are for the NFL are



Offensive skill positions.......

Highest paid......QB
2nd                  WR
3rd                   RB


O-Line

highest paid.........LT (protects QB)
                         

Defensive positions....

DB's/LB...................Corner (protects against the pass)

D-Line.....................DE or pass rushing LB (main job discription....hit, disrupt and sack the QB)

The highest paid positions in the league are QB and WR on skilled positions, LT on the O-Line, pass rushing ends on the D-line and CB's in the back end.

As far as team owners, GM's , coaches, etc....it's a passing league and based on salary, passing the football and stopping the pass are the highest paid positions.

Who ever said QB's aren't paid the most, your entire post is nothing new to anyone who knows the structure of a football team. The QB should be paid most hes the most important player on the team, touches the ball more than anyone, not sure how this proves it's a passing league though.

This IS my thread.  Right,  and the tongue in cheek disclaimer was mentioned in my second post.  But you are saying Nos is wrong in this case, and sooner he can accept it, the sooner you two can end it.  But you aren't just disagreeing with Nos here.  Or telling just him he is wrong.

I say you Dont need a top pass attack to be one of the best team. I think what it comes down to separating the best from the worst is the coaches getting the best out of the players they have, game planning for what best suits your best attributes and exploiting your opponents weaknesses.

 Pounding the rock is how you wear a team out into the 4th and get a high powered passing attack off their rhythm.

That was meant to state your opinions on where this league is headed.  You and I offer the opinion that this league is not turning into a passing league, or that you need a top passing attack to win it all.  Hutch takes the other opinion.
