Recruiting?

What is up with recruiting?  Seems like OU is missing out on damn near every recruit we are going after.....lost one to UCLA, one to Nebraska, two to Texas....let's hope there is some good news on or before signing day.

This is the main reason why OU keeps losing 3 games per season and is not competing for national titles.....the coaches just aren't recruiting as well as they use to.

Wardog,  I see where OU's recruiting wishlist has a kid  from Hollywood, FL  6'1" 165 lbs 4.45 speed cornerback...????  165 lbs???  Just what OU needs to be looking for.... A strong Oklahoma wind and this kid is in the next county....  No wonder the Sooners recruiting is so bad....  Weight program???  not on this kid...
Most kids have made their minds up already and are just waiting for sign up day.  I don't see OU getting anyone of the 4 and 5 star calibur.  Possibly a JUCO..DL outta Kansas Comm Col...  Unless some of the oversigns from Alabama change their minds.. All 400 of them....

Definitely....today was no day at the beach either. Left the house at 4 AM (7 degrees) to take my daughter on college visit to Iowa.....5 degrees when we arrived.  In the teens most of the day and trust me, the campus walking tour was one cold mother.  Brutal.  Frown

Let's hope for the best, but something just isn't right in Norman these days.  Just a feeling.  Hope I'm way off base on this one....

I don't put much stock in recruting services, usually the top ten are pretty much the top ten in the final season poles,as well. I noticed that Charles Walker DT an OU late commit went from 2 star to 3 star after he picked OU. Barry Switzer had a dry spell in the early 80s, a little worse than Bob's current. I remember one of those teams had Rick Bryan, Scott Case and Marcus Dupree and still lost 4 games....go figure?

Recruiing services do get it right far more often than they get it wrong.....that said, they still whiff on some.  Bradford is a prime example...a 3* out of high school.  But again, Sam is much more the exception than the rule.  IMO at least.

I'd read that, wardog, and I can't say I disagree.  They are spot on in many of their assessments.

I mean, seriously, allowing almost 400 yards per game AVERAGE?  That's not going to win any championships.  It will be good enough for the Big XII but that's it.  And, as we've seen recently, allowing that kind of yardage in the Big XII will lose you a couple of games a year.

It is hard to disagree with any of it...and it's damn difficult to succeed giving up 400 yards a game.  By contrast, Alabama gave up about 250. They play against different types of offenses and all, but 150 ypg is still a huge difference.  Going to be interesting moving forward.

I haven't been paying attention to recruiting much in this off season. Have the Sooners got a crappy Recruiting class out of the 2013 class.

When the dust settles Texas will have a much better rated class than the Sooners.......don't know how we keep beating them so much?

I know why OU keeps beating Texas. OU has better Coachs. Mac Brown may be a good recruiter but he doesn't know what to do with the talent he has.

Yeah, once upon a time Mack Brown could get top 5 recruiting classes down in Austin, now he is looking at a 20th ranked recruiting class losing recruits to Baylor and Oklahoma State. If Mack can't win with a top 5 class how can Texas compete with a 20th ranked group of kids. The recruiting times are a changing. Many of the top recruits are goig to the SEC. When the SEC has a strangle hold on the National Championships and a direct line in the NFL I think that has as much to do with it as anything.

Currently Alabama has a strangle hold on recruits with what they have accomplished in the past few years winning 3 National Championships and all the NFL draft picks. Not sure what is happening in Norman or Austin but recruits are opting for other programs. Texas A&M once got mauled by Texas and Oklahoma in recruiting but just completed a tremendous 2013 recruiting class that many have ranked inside of the top 10 between 5 and 10. Proves that Kevin Sumlin is a great recruiter, helps to have the hottest name in college football playing QB.
