Hey WDH, did ya get a little cold the other night...Definitely....today was no day at the beach either. Left the house at 4 AM (7 degrees) to take my daughter on college visit to Iowa.....5 degrees when we arrived. In the teens most of the day and trust me, the campus walking tour was one cold mother. Brutal.
Wardog, I see where OU's recruiting wishlist has a kid from Hollywood, FL 6'1" 165 lbs 4.45 speed cornerback...???? 165 lbs??? Just what OU needs to be looking for.... A strong Oklahoma wind and this kid is in the next county.... No wonder the Sooners recruiting is so bad.... Weight program??? not on this kid...Let's hope for the best, but something just isn't right in Norman these days. Just a feeling. Hope I'm way off base on this one....
Most kids have made their minds up already and are just waiting for sign up day. I don't see OU getting anyone of the 4 and 5 star calibur. Possibly a JUCO..DL outta Kansas Comm Col... Unless some of the oversigns from Alabama change their minds.. All 400 of them....
I don't put much stock in recruting services, usually the top ten are pretty much the top ten in the final season poles,as well. I noticed that Charles Walker DT an OU late commit went from 2 star to 3 star after he picked OU. Barry Switzer had a dry spell in the early 80s, a little worse than Bob's current. I remember one of those teams had Rick Bryan, Scott Case and Marcus Dupree and still lost 4 games....go figure?Recruiing services do get it right far more often than they get it wrong.....that said, they still whiff on some. Bradford is a prime example...a 3* out of high school. But again, Sam is much more the exception than the rule. IMO at least.
I'd read that, wardog, and I can't say I disagree. They are spot on in many of their assessments. It is hard to disagree with any of it...and it's damn difficult to succeed giving up 400 yards a game. By contrast, Alabama gave up about 250. They play against different types of offenses and all, but 150 ypg is still a huge difference. Going to be interesting moving forward.
I mean, seriously, allowing almost 400 yards per game AVERAGE? That's not going to win any championships. It will be good enough for the Big XII but that's it. And, as we've seen recently, allowing that kind of yardage in the Big XII will lose you a couple of games a year.
