Rodgers-Woodson

I head that Rodgers was "lobbying" to keep Woodson. He is a good leader but with his limited role last year because of injury and the involvement with rookies that improved throughout the reg season. Is he worth bringing back at his salary? Dont get me wrong, i love the guy but its just like Donald Driver last year.  He took a pay cut and then barely played. Albeit i think Woodson will play a TON more than what Driver did this past season but we could cut his salary down and use that another place to bring him another Super Bowl next year. Plus when the Packers vs the Redskins and the 49ers he could be the qb spy. and as far as i can recall the only game he played against AP he only rushed for 99 yards, even though it was the packers 3rd crack at it.

So what do you guys think? keep him for a motivational/qb spy leader type of guy or get rid of him now and cut all ties?

Unless we don't have enough cap, I can't see a problem in paying Woodson.  He has one more season at best but he would be invaluable in forging the new young defense.  This year we had 7 or 8 million in cap space.  We could have afforded to pay a stud 7 million this year to help the team.  I wouldn't commit longterm salary to some of these guys but I wouldn't leave much in the tank each season.  The Packers can afford it UNLESS it prevents future needs.

Woodson brings a work ethic and commitment that new guys like Worthy, Shields and Perry need to be infected with.  I say one more year.

I would like to see Charles Woodson for another year and I think we will, I think they will renegotiate a lower salary and keep him.  I would like to see Woodson take a little time away from Morgan Burnett at safety, just because I wasn't too impressed with Burnett's tackling.  It has been brought up before but Rod Woodson had some good years at safety and I think Charles can as well.

Money talks.  If he's looking for anything over 4 million let him go.

Woodson and Driver are both great players, but completely different. I trust Woodson to be in shape and be prepared to play as best he can more than Driver right now.

Agree with that. I believe he would work a deal like that for another shot.

I am a huge fan of woodson and I hope he knows that most Packer fans are.  He has been nothing but a pro, especially scince he was unhappy about moving here at first.  I think the team the history and the fans have grown on him.  That being said the D improved a great deal while he was out, I am not saying he does not add value but I will say that value may be at to high of a price.  The secondary was not the issue othe than Trammon from time to time.  I would like to that money spent to get a decent D-line that does not ole all the time we gave too many yards on the ground to Peterson and in the playoff loss Kaperneick and Gore.

I would not be upset either way as long as TT does something smart with the cash.......

With his $10 million in salary and bonuses he's pretty much gone next year so we can keep younger guys on the team.  But Rodgers brings up some good points.  Woodson's leadership was a large part of the Super Bowl win.  He's like an extra coach out there.

He helped Tramon Williams rise from an UDFA to starter.  He's also been integral in helping Sam Shields, Davon House, and now Casey Hayward.  You can see Woodson's impact on their play.

Still, $10 million is too much to pay if it jettisons some promising youth on the team.  When it's all said and done, if the money is there, keep him.  If it's not, try to renegotiate.

I'm in favor of Woodson coming back. I'm not impressed at all by any of the other safeties.

Ask the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles if he wished he'd have paid Brian Dawkins the $4mil he wanted 3 yrs ago when the Eagles only were willing to pay $2mil. You want to talk about one of the worst PR and football moves of all time. Unless Woodson is holding someone back from accelling, you keep him on your team. Guys like that mean wayyyyyyyyyy more to a team than just their slowing 40 time suggests.

Those "crappy" S's helped us win a bunch of games and didn't have any holding calls.  The guy from Maine is going to be the next SS.

The Packers will need to let Woodson go, because the 10 million he's due is too much at this stage of his career. As it stands now they are a little over the salary cap, so TT must make some deletions or renegotiate quite a few contracts.  Might as well start with Woodson's 10 million.  Good bye Chuckie.

He is getting a little too old and fragile for the way he plays.

Now, if the Packers can hire him as a player/coach and shift a good chunk of that salary out from under the cap, he is definitely worth keeping. Don't know what NFL regulations say about that.

Ed Reed is a fantasy based on cap space and I wouldn't want that much tied up in one position.  2 good LB's for that price would have more of an impact in my opinion.
