Greeny's quote:"If I were Alex Smith, I'd be...."

January 25, 2013 10:47 am

"If I were Alex Smith, I'd be rooting against the 49ers in the Super Bowls" That was the Greeny's quote this morning on ESPN's Mike and Mike in the morning show.

I agree with that 100 percent, absolutely!

If I were Alex Smith I would say all the standard-hypocritical answers- like "oh yes I'm a teammate and I'm pulling for the guy" or "I'm standing behind my coach 100%" you get the drift. Here what I have to say about all those cookie cutter answers.

BULL OF STUFF and I'm taking the high road here, you know what really want to say, don't you.

This coach benched Alex Smith when he was having a great season, the guy was winning football games, period. I hope Mr. Smith, in his self-talk, is saying screw you coach I hope you lose 70 to nothing, I know I would.

What would you do if you were in the same situation?

Enough said.

Either way he won't be a 49er next year, unless Kapernick breaks his neck in the Super Bowl. Why would he not want to win, even as a backup? Greeny is an idiot and it just shows how big of a joke ESPN is when those two retards are your flagship radio program.

I know that's how alot of people would feel deep down but I don't think that's Alex Smith. Everyone knows he is leaving now win or lose & he's smart enough to know that the decision to start Kaep has long since been justified. He himself got his big chance in college because the starter got hurt & he never looked back, so he knows how it goes first hand.

The guy has been through alot with the guys in that locker room & he is well liked & respected with his teammates. I think he wants a win real bad for the sake of the guys he has spent all those years struggling with.

This coach benched Alex Smith when he was having a great season

Smith was benched because he wasn't the best QB on the team, just like anybody else would be.

This is a non-story.

BS any player with a normal brain would want to be a Super Bowl Champion.  He is not the best QB on the team.  Sit back and hopefully you get a ring.

Why would he want to see the 49ers lose? Players on the losing team get less money.

Alex Smith with land on his feet either way.  He was responsible for getting him so far...Kap contined his work.  A SB vitory coulfd have hime getting a well payiong starting gig with a needy team like the Jets, Chiefs, Vikings, etc.  He has a lot of tangible qualities like 1st over draft pick, clean image, 2 play-off seasons, a great QB coach who turned around his career and now a SB appearance.  If Kap gets hurt and he goes in then, his stock soars all the more.  Even without a SB win he'll get the same opportunities although possibly with just slightly less money.

If he's not the solution for team he's a great stop-gap to keep them competitive until that team can draft/acquire the one that they want.

And less gold and diamond encrusted keepsakes in the form of a ring.

The way Kaepernick runs around and the Ravens defenders hit, I think Smith should be focused on getting ready to possibly play not pouting over sour grapes because he was benched , Smith is a proven game manager, Colin is a prospect . There is a decent chance he will see the field. Imagine if Pollard lights up Kaepernick like he did Ridley or heck, like Brady 5 years ago for that matter.

It's Not Alex Smith's Place To Protest

January 28, 2013 11:59 am

Smith was NOT having a great season.   He is what he is as a quarterback and Harbaugh saw that his limitations can never be overcome.   The change had to happen because Alex Smith is the past and Colin Kaepernick is the future.

Smith thus has no right to protest.

Kaepernick is a better QB then Smith, BY FAR! Smith was a game manager the past 2 years, and before that, his previous 7 years he was garbage.

With that said, I agree with you. I bet Smith would crack a smile if Kaepernick threw a game losing INT in the superbowl. Maybe not on camera, but he would be smiling somewhere like, "See, I told you!"

Personally, I think Smith could of gotten them to the Superbowl too, just in a different way then Kaepernick.

Here's a little tidbit I didn't know but read earlier today.

Alex Smith came out of Utah, right?  Well, apparently he didn't get the starting gig until what happened?  Oh yeah, the starter ahead of him got hurt.  Even he acknowledges it'd be pretty hypocretical of him to get ticked off at the situation after he got his college gig the same way.  That said, you know it's still brutal for him on the inside.

I wouldn't have started to root against them in the Super Bowl. I would have been ever since he got hurt. You don't need to show an ovation on the sidelines when something bad happens. Just keep it to yourself. Why wouldn't a guy hope for the other to do bad to get his job back?
