Jus so we get this straight... You think a team that lost to New Mexico at home AND at New Mexico, barely beat Air Force in OT, lost to Colorado St, and lost to one of the ACC's weakest teams this year UNC, could possibly beat the Gators who are winning games by 35 to 40 pts on the road and only losses were to top teams by a combined 7 pts? Of course I'm referring to 4 ( almost 5 loss if Air Force had pulled through....lol) UNLV. You may get to play the Gators if you make the tournament if you can get past the first round. People are delusional...so entertaining:-)

Right, "just so we don't get delusional," Florida, although really playing outstanding ball, in general, are playing in a SEC that is not nearly as good as the MWC.  Winning @ venues in the MWC isn't nearly as easy as in the SEC this year.  Your ranting about how the Gators would beat UNLV by 30-40 doesn't make it so...if for no other reason that you just don't know much, if anything about the MWC or the Runnin' Rebels.  Florida would have a tough time winning @ UNLV, New Mexico, San Diego St, and Colorado St.  Guarantee they'd drop 1 and probably 2...maybe three.  By the way, they haven't beaten Ole Miss yet nor have they won @ Kentucky or @ Mizzou- all teams who represent a dubious, "best of the rest" in the SEC.  We'll see where Florida ends up....I figure they will coast into March, but in the tourney, we will all look forward to a MWC team drawing the Gators.  T

he point is that although Florida has played great recently, and have earned a #1 seed to this point, they did lose to their best opponents in away games.

Sorry, I'm not sure if Duke is better than Florida, but other than Florida I'm not impressed with the other SEC teams. If Florida is winning games by this many points then maybe the other teams are pretty bad. It's all opinion, and at full strength I don't see much difference between Duke and Florida.

Yeah it's incredibly difficult winning at Air Force or Fresno or Boise. The MWC isn't bad, but it's no better than the A-10. That's not all bad, Butler and VCU are good programs that have been to Final 4's

UNLV hasn't played New Mexico in Vegas yet.  They're 17-4.

And beating Florida will be tough for anyone this season...they're a definite Final Four contender.

All I've said about UNLV is that NO team is going to overwhlem them simply in terms of talent.  UNLV is as talented as any team out there.  They haven't been as good as many teams, but their talent is such that they could make a deep run if they manage to finally put everything together.  And I'm not saying that's a given.

Florida is scary good though.  Actually look at and watch UNLV's personnel though...this isn't some undersized, scrappy mid-major roster...lots of size and talent and high level athleticism.

Florida is the best team I've seen all year ... period.  Like any team, they have to be on their game, and lately they have been in a big way. Athletic, quick, and disciplined. If they keep it up, they're my team this year ... if they slide, I'll be looking elsewhere.

We'll see how far the MWC teams go in the tournament.  My guess is they do well, but generally only go a couple of games. This happens every single year, and I've been running a pool for 32 of 'em ... anyone can make a final four if they put a run together.  If one of these teams manages it, though, it'll be a cinderella story, not what's expected.

Butler has great potential to go far.  They have solid players who know their roles and execute.  That beats draft picks who showboat and pound their chests a fair percentage of the time. Brad Stevens is an elite coach and gets everything out of his team.  Also, there is no such thing as "Gonzaga should have won that game" ... nobody "should" win anything ... you either win or you don't.  Butler won because they did what they had to do and they didn't let up until the buzzer went off.  Why should Gonzaga win that game when they handed it to a more alert Butler? ... obviously, Gonzaga shouldn't have won.

Don't measure the quality of their teams by their potential lottery picks ... it takes on hell of a lot more than that to win ...

Once again, I have to pause to defend my Big 12 real quick. While I realize they are "down" some this year and that other conferences are much more top heavy, they do boast 6/10 teams in the top 50 RPI (which the only other conf to have 60% of teams in the top 50 is the Big East). They are projecting as having 6 teams in, which at 60% of teams is actually leading all conferences. So while they are definitely not the best conference this year in terms of top teams, I can argue that they are one of the strongest conferences top to bottom. Outside the 6 projected to make the tourney is Texas and West Virginia which are young, talented teams that have under-performed but are still decent squads. My main point is that the teams that come out of the Big 12 WILL be battle tested and will surely shock some teams come March.
Man, I've posted about the strength of the Big 12 on numerous threads and not so much as a single reply comment? Please someone, agree or disagree or add an opinion or something!  Or was my arguement just that strong...

Nobody is playing more consistent than Florida right now. When a team that good never takes an inferior opponent lightly, it is a scary thing for opponents.

Duke:

They got into the Top 5 (and discussion for best team) by [barely] beating "#3" Kentucky and [barely] beating "#2" Louisville (minus their starting center) and [barely] beating "#4" Ohio State (in Cameron)

Since then, Louisville turned out to be a borderline top 15 team (with their starting center) and Kentucky has fallen off the map.  Ohio State is one of the "good but not great, interchangeable with about 30 teams outside of the top 10" teams. Meanwhile Duke lost Ryan Kelly and has lost to good competition and barely beaten the bad competition.  You might remember what happened when Duke lost Kelly last season.  **cough** LEHIGH **cough**

Duke has a good solid resume and is playing like a top 25 team, but they don't belong anywhere near the top 5 right now.  Not by a longshot.

Verdict:  Overrated!

Without Kelly Duke is somewhere in the 15-25 range, with him they're top 5.

They're top 5 based on what?

They have a good (not great) resume and they haven't beaten any top 10 teams.  Maybe you're criteria is different, but I think you have to have a top 10 win to be a top 5 team.

When Duke was healthy they went down to the wire with UK and Louisville (without their starting center)  That tells me that they're most likely somewhere in the range of UK and Louisvlle (minus their starting center)  Their other wins and losses confirm that.

But last time I checked Duke does not have Kelly right now so they are most definitely overrated right now.

Ok, maybe you should look at the other teams in the top 5, no top 10 wins. Strangely enough, Butler has 2, but also lost to Xavier and LaSalle.

I wouldn't necessarily have those teams in the top 5 either.  I also wouldn't have any issue at all with having Butler in the top 5.

That little piece notwithstanding, Duke right now, without Kelly, is still the most overrated team in CBB.

I'm not the one "ranting" here....you have SO many posts up about the MWC that its actually booooooring to read! I know plenty about MW bball and never said that they weren't decent as a conference(maybe the best conference)....but let's get real here, do you even remember the teams that were all in the sweet 16 last year, because that's as far as any of those 4 & 5 loss (ALREADY) programs will ever go:-) I hate the Gators too, had to watch them beat the OSU in the National Championship a few years ago in BOTH football & basketball that year! But try and get honest with yourself, this is a team that(with several tough injuries) has beaten # 22 Wisconsin by about 20 pts, a really strong Marquette team by over 30 pts, won on the road AT FSU 72-47, beat Air Force by about 20 (not in OT like UNLV had to...), won at Yale by over 20, beat #17 Mizzou by OVER 30, and have won their last 3 games by close to 40 every single game...even with 4 Freshmen and a Sophomore on the floor for the last 4th of the game! So, yes, it is clearly DELUSIONAL to think that any of those MW teams could come close to beating them when they can barely beat Airforce. Sorry to burst your bubble (you must be used to the bubble by now)but most of those FL wins I gave as examples weren't even SEC teams and they beat Wisky months ago, so it's not like FL has JUST become good, but you can try and spin it that way if you're that desperate. Like I said before, all anyone is going to remember anyway is that FL won another freakin National Championship. Later, hater;)

I think KY is starting to pull it together....I mean, just look, even when they were playing like crap, they still played the mighty UNLV to a 3pt game on the road. Probably woulda won had the game been at KY;-) Every team needs a rebuilding year sometime....they are STILL the defending National Champions!

Nice. I think maybe they won't get tested enough during the regular sesason and that will be their downfall. Nice win last night however.
