State of Kansas Basketball > SEC Basketball?

January 31, 2013 3:34 pm

KU fans taking a shot at Mizzou...thats all they're doing.   After last nights loss to LSU, I can see why.   But lets not act like Kansas (OR ANYONE IN COLLEGE BASKETBALL) is dominating games.    KU is hardly dominate, actually I would argue that the best team still in college basketball is Indiana.    They're as close to Kentucky's team last year as their is in college basketball.   Great parody, which should make for a great NCAA tourney come March.

I would go easy on proclaiming how good the Chickenhawks are KUPUKE fans...... I can definitely seeing the Jayhawks adding another cinderella to their resume:  VCU, BUCKNELL, DAVIDSON, BRADLEY, etc..... NorfolK State :)   Florida is for real, I would pencil them into the Final Four on every bracket.... Billy D can coach, and he has the experience and players this year.     KU still has trouble scoring, but they do defend...not buying on Releford (the fact that he's still starting at KU = not alot of depth for Kansas).   SHocked that Young is still getting major minutes, that he's even starting is a shock to me.     Love Withey in the middle, McLemore is a stud...but still a freshman.

Duke might've been the best team, until Ryan kelly went out.

P.S. Don't sleep on Missouri either....we're taking our lumps now, but we're definitely a team you don't want to play in March.   If Jabari Brown keeps getting better, Pressey plays under control late....this team will be a tough out...I'd argue there isn't one team in college basketball with more SIZE!!!  Freaking NBA bodies out there!

I am glad you added Davidson to your list.. the team we beat to go to the Final Four in 2008 and inevitably another title.. I know, Final Four.. foreign statement to a misery fan..

KU doesn't defend.. they flat out SHUTDOWN.  You should buy on Relaford.. he is making the best guards that KU plays look bad.  Watch a few KU games and you will understand Kevin Young's role on this team.  He crashes the boards, plays balls to the walls, and has more passion than the entire misery fanbase.. which reminds me.. have you sold out a game yet??

KU's offense is fine... especially when teams are struggling to score 60 on them.

Yes you are taking your lumps now.. and unless you get your act together fast, you will be looking at an 8 seed and another quick exit from March Madness.

You could be right with Mizzou getting an #8 seed....and I would bet the NCAA will set them up for a 2nd round matchup vs. Kansas....I'm sure Bill Selfish will love that set-up, since he's scared to play Mizzou annually!!!     Won't have to run and hide Billy Selfish!!!!!

You do realize that Kansas is having trouble scoring?  Correct?   Unless you feel that McLemore is going to light it up in March for 6 straight games?   We know how Withey goes in scoring funks.   Releford (Any other year...he's the 7th man on Ku)   Young (Any other year he's the 10th man!!! But Perry Ellis ended up being a bust)   Sorry, just not sold on Kansas this year to make a Final Four run...but heck, last years team didn't have the makeup to get there, and they did.

Funny about that Davidson game K-Hawk...was all you Chickenhawk lovers were about to throw Bill Selfish to the wolves.    If he loses that game, which Kansas ALMOST DID....he almost certainly would've been FIRED by Kansas.   Unreal how that one game turned his career around....and of course Memphis choking all of those free throw misses.

Slippy, sucks to be you, all that hate for Kansas basketball and not a darn thing you can do about it. You guys thought you were going to rule SEC basketball then you go and lose to worst team in the conference, couple more loses and you may have a chance for the NIT. Yes it sucks to be you.

I agree with Phog, I remember when Kentucky lost to Alabama (which was their second lose in conference play) the Mizz fan said welp looks like its only a two team race in the SEC now. NO ONE in the SEC is going to take the SEC crown from Florida this year, it's basically a battle for 2nd place, and Missouri spiraling out of control. They used no Bowers as an excuse long enough then when they got Bowers back..... they lost to LSU (worst team in SEC at the time).

Missouri is probably the 4th or 5th best team in the SEC... and their record is fixing to show it with alot of tough games upcoming.

"You do realize that Kansas is having trouble scoring?  Correct?"

You do realize that it's barely February, correct? KU's offense will be fine come tourney time. And with our defense we only need to get to 60 points to win a game.
"But Perry Ellis ended up being a bust"

That's hilarious. I understand that most Mizzou fans have no concept of how to build a consistent winner, but Perry Ellis is FAR from a bust. He is pitching in nicely now and will be an All American candidate by the time he leaves Kansas. He's avergaing around the same per minute stats as Thomas Robinson did his freshman year and is playing much more meaningful minutes higher in the rotation. And T-Rob was national POY runner up two years later.

You'll see.

"We know how Withey goes in scoring funks.   Releford (Any other year...he's the 7th man on Ku)   Young (Any other year he's the 10th man!!! But Perry Ellis ended up being a bust)   Sorry, just not sold on Kansas this year to make a Final Four run...but heck, last years team didn't have the makeup to get there, and they did."

Thank you pointing out just what an incredible coaching staff KU has. They have a roster full of guys that NO ONE would have expected to be starters on a Final Four contender three years ago. Just goes to show what an elite program builder Self and his staff are. Any recruit that passes on going to Kansas is crazy in my opinion.

"If he loses that game, which Kansas ALMOST DID...."

"If" and "almost", the staple words of a Missouri basketball fan...

"But lets not act like Kansas (OR ANYONE IN COLLEGE BASKETBALL) is dominating games.    KU is hardly dominate, actually I would argue that the best team still in college basketball is Indiana."

Longest winning streak in the nation, longest road winning streak in the nation, longest home winning streak in the nation. I don't care if every game is won by 1 point. Typical Mizzou fan, style over substance...

"Great parody, which should make for a great NCAA tourney come March."

The only "parody" is the Mizzou basketball season and you pitiful grasp of the English language. The "parity" in college basketball, however, will lead to a very exciting tourney this year.

"I'd argue there isn't one team in college basketball with more SIZE!!!  Freaking NBA bodies out there! "

Main players:
Oriahki: 6'9"
Criswell: 6'9"
Bowers: 6'8"
Webster-Chan: 6'7"
Brown: 6'5"
Ross: 6'5"
Bell: 6'4"
Pressey: 5'11" (yeah right)

Kansas:
Withey: 7'0"
Young: 6'8"
Traylor: 6'8"
Ellis: 6'8"
Releford: 6'6"
McLemore: 6'5"
Johnson: 6'4"
Tharpe: 5'11"

Just off the top of my head and I am sure there are plenty of others... But at least your team LOOKS like a good team. Style over substance AGAIN.

"KU still has trouble scoring, but they do defend...not buying on Releford (the fact that he's still starting at KU = not alot of depth for Kansas).   SHocked that Young is still getting major minutes, that he's even starting is a shock to me.     Love Withey in the middle, McLemore is a stud...but still a freshman.    "

After reading all of your opinions on college basketball over the last few years, it makes me very comfortable to see your assessment of Kansas basketball and our players. Since you have been wrong on pretty much every basketball related item ever, I would be concerned if you thought we were good or liked our players. KU is struggling some on offense, but that will improve as the season rolls on. Good luck to anyone scoring on this team come tourney time. We have the best defense in the nation now and it will only improve betwen now and the tourney as well. No one cares who looked the best on February 1st.

Take it like a man...OSU gets their first ROAD win against a TOP 5 team since 1958....where? at AFH...OUCH!!! Who dogged MU for losing AT OSU last year? It happens...KU was on "borrowed" time...PG play is terrible and I guess the D (even at home) can't win them all.

Oklahoma State played a great game and we lapsed on D. Congrats to them. It happens. It's a shame but I bet you the majority of fans don't care and just wish we learn from this and improve going forward. After all it wasn't Mizzou or KState.

Nicely put Nut...when teams play bad, or at least below their talent level, the chances of them winning go down.  Law of averages, if you play mediocre long enough you're gonna get beat.  Unfortunate timing but at the level they are currently playing at, it was going to happen eventually.

State of Kansas Basketball > SEC Basketball?

TWOCOACH, I love proving myself correct, which I clearly did in my posts earlier.    Lets  see:

Kansas got exposed, and they're very overated defensively, losing at HOME to Ok State.   I believe you were just stating how great KU is at home, how great the Kansas defense is, and the fact that Releford and Young deserve to be playing?   Like I said, any other year they're 8th and 10th man for Kansas.    And the Jayhawks still have trouble scoring (OK state up big early in that game, because KU lacks any scoring..sorry no Robinson or Taylor clones on this years team...no room for improvement).   The only improvement will be Ben McLemore improving his draft status each and every night.   Kid is a TOP 5 pick for sure next year.

I believe I stated INDIANA being the best team in college basketball, not a stretch, but they took care of business vs. #1 ranked Michigan... Check for slippy.

I also believe that I stated that FLORIDA is a lock for the Final Four.... hmmmm..they may be the best defensive team in college basketball...... wouldn't you believe that????   Or do you need more proof?

Since you love to twist my words.... Mizzou is CLEARLY THE BIGGEST TEAM IN COLLEGE BASKETBALL.    Not talking about the average height of their team, but they're BUILD.   They're not stick figures like Young, Ellis, and Withey.    Ross, Oriaki, and Criswell are MEN, they look like freaking Charles Oakley out there, just to clear up my statement about the MISSOURI SIZE/BUILD.    They're a team I wouldn't want to f with in a basketball BRAWL.    Are we clear here now?    There is a reason I said Mizzou is built like an NBA lineup...look up images of Charles Oakley if you need help?

Lastly, my reason to not wanting to play Mizzou in NCAA tourney.   Please go and look at Michigan State for the last 10 years...Mizzou is exactly like them (Except we don't have Tom Izzo coaching them).    Sparty Nation always had a true point guard (Pressey), big bodies (SIZE/BUILD like Oriakhi, Criswell, and Ross).   Sparty would just out muscle you, throw it at the rim and go and get it.   Mizzou has that type of team.   If Brown and Bell can become better scorers, look out for this team.   They're getting BETTER, learning to play with each other.    Bowers is back, Brown now has 10 games under his belt, and Pressey needs to learn to calm down at the end of games.    Mizzou will be fine...its a shame we don't know who is better this year: Mizzou or Kansas..because Billy Selfish would rather hide.

Glorius day for me.... Kansas loses at home, Mizzou gets healthy, nailed the SuperBowl financially..... now I get to read all of TwoCoachs predictions about how great Kansas is at home, and defensively... 2 hours before they lose at home to Oklahoma State..giving up 80 plus points.

P.S. Now harm intended twocoach, if you recall,  you and I were exchanging posts earlier this year, and we both stated that OK State is the team to be concerned with in the Big12...beside Kansas.

Even in a different conference Mizzou fans can still only get satisfaction through KU losses rather than MU wins.  No one is panicking Slippy.  This may, however, be a season where the KU faithful are forced to settle for an elite 8.  How does it feel to know we "settle" for elite 8's while MU has never  even made it passed the elite 8?

And yet none of this has translated to winning anything.  Not a conference championship.  Not a final four.  Not a national title.  Your program has done NOTHING to be revered.  And the fact that you start posting trash talk immediately following a KU loss just underscores how pathetic your basketball program is over there in Missourah.  Face it, the Tigers are a joke.
