I wouldn't mind bringing in Freeney.  He is a veteran, perhaps he can provide leadership.  1 or 2 years sound right.  I'm sure he's be cheaper than Avril.

I think we should go hard after Glover Quin if the Texans let him hot the market.

He's young (just turned 27) and has good size at 6'0" and 207 lbs. He's a willing tackler, but his best attribute is his cover ability; he's a converted CB who had 14 passes defensed with 2 picks and 2 forced fumbles last season. Behind Jairus Byrd, he's probably the next best cover safety in the league.

If it were up to me I'd re-sign Delmas, because his play-making style meshes perfectly with Quin's steady play and great cover ability. Then I'd pass on Houston, because of what his worth on the free agent market will be, and sign Antoine Cason and Cary Williams to be the starting CBs. Not only is this affordable, it also transforms our secondary from small and banged up to big and productive- Quin, Cason and Williams are all 6'0" or better...

Wishful thinking TP.  Quin will be the most coveted safety in FA.  Cary Williams was reported wanting big money too and would cost more than Houston most likely.  We just dont have the cash for this.  Cason would be a good fit and probably not break the bank.

Lawrence Sidbury is an under-the-radar option in the free agent market at DE.

He fits the wide-9 profile perfectly and should be dirt cheap. He'd be purely a rotational guy, not a starter, but he gives us a decent "fall back" option if we need to add depth...

Honestly, I think that Detroit should decide what area they want to focus on in free agency and then target a few guys in that area. I would look at the secondary and try to bring in Antoine Cason, Keenan Lewis, Kenny Phillips, or Patrick Chung.  With this approach they would be able to turn there focus to another area of need during the draft, and that would be the front 7 with an OLB and then two defensive ends.

I honestly think that Cliff Avril is going to take the first huge contract that he gets and will not allow Detroit to come close to what he is asking for or even match what he gets.  I just read that the Browns could be a big player for him and they would look at making him an OLB in there new 3-4.

In every hopme game we went to, the Lions went into 3-4 mode at least 6 times a game. Suh jumped in LB, as well as Avril, Faurley did a number of times also. Levy moved into the left tackle position, Sammie Lee Hill came in and played nose tackle. It would be a shame to lose vril, everyone would agree that him and Shaun Roger were the two bery best defensive playes in Lions history. Avril will make the Hall of Fame. He's the top 3 DE's in footbal today. Every single team is going to get ready to offer him the moon to play for them. As an example. Minnesota would cut Jared Allled in a heartbeat to be able to grab Avril to make room.

We would give Minny Avril for Jared Allen right now.....No givesies backsies.....We would also throw in Mayhew Durant, Railoa and Rory for that deal......

After second thought.....Putting Rory in the deal isn't good.....We still claim Rory and give Minny any DB on the team.....Minny gets to pick they just can't have Roary.....I heard he didn't suffer a ACL injury so he will be getting another 10 year extension.

The Lions wouldn't even trade Theo for Jared (plays hard only 5 downs per game) Allen.

I think he's just a "trolling account" that one of the regulars made up to have some fun... his posts go from articulate and sensible to bizzare jibberish way too quick.

Somone's trying to fuck**** with us.

The Lions ran a 3-4 at least 6 times a game? Yeah, um, you're not going to slide that past a board full of people who watched every snap of every game last year...

If Rory cant take out AP and Forte like he did Jamaal Charles, it will be money well spent.

Brian Hartline is off the market.

I don't know if the Lions had any interest in him, but he would have made a nice #2 receiver with his deep speed and decent size...

I know that I just posted that I don't think that Cliff Avril will be back with the Lions, but do you think that he will give Detroit the chance to come back with an offer if he gets one from another team? If so what is the max that the team should offer him?

One thing that we Lions fans need to keep an eye on is the moves that the Browns make in free agency. If they sign a Paul Kreuger away from the Ravens then I think they turn there atention to another position at 6 which could mean that Detroit could possibly trade back 2 or 3 spots and still get Ansah.  We need to pray that Cleveland goes out and signs Kreuger or another pass rusher and maybe another cornerback, if this happens and both Ansah and Millner are there along with a guy like Geno Smith I think Detroit would be in prime position to trade back to Arizona or Buffalo.

When thinking about free agency there are two ways that I think the Lions could go and that is resign Chris Houston and let Avril walk or vice versa. Which would you rather have? If Detroit resigns Houston then I think they go after Ezekiel Ansah, but if they resign Avril then I think they go after Dee Millner.
