Letter of Intent Day THREAD....

Mike Leach's only note worthy recruit is a quarterback who shat the bed whenever he was on television and he pissed off the only recruiting pipeline that respects him..so it was an outstanding recruiting season for Washington State.

Not looking good for the Dawgs. Don't get me wrong, we'll still have a top 10 class. But looks like we may miss on all but one of the 6 or 7 we had a shot at. It doesn't help that there is now a rumor out that the DC Grantham may be interviewing with New Orleans on Thursday. Seriously, that has to come out the day before signing. If that happens, it will be amazing to have lost our recruiting coordinator in the middle of recruiting season to Auburn, and then our DC may ship out. I hate college football sometimes.

Terrodney Prevot won't sign with USC. TAMU and Oregon are his final 2. With Daeshon Hall flipping to TAMU, I don't think they have room. Great news for Oregon if so... UW loses and Oregon wins. I like that! ESPN just confirmed Cameron Hunt to Oregon. Ragin said he would honor his commitment to Cal, but I'm not buying it until the pen hits the paper.

I heard he chose the Ducks!!

Would have been nice to keep an in-state talent like this. But to be honest, with keeping the Robinson twins & stealing Prevot, we didn't really need Ragin.

Boy, I have to admit that it appears I whiffed on the Ducks recruiting class this year. I thought Chip's departure was going to hurt us big time. Turns out we still ended up with a Top 20 class, possibly even close to Top 15.

Now it's time to wait with crossed fingers while the NCAA takes their sweet time and decides whether the Ducks get a bowl ban. That's the only thing that could sour my mood right now.

Shok nice to hear you own up but we were telling you all year, Recruiting class ranking in May doesnt matter, August doesnt matter, Dec doesnt matter.  Feb is the only time it matters.

I suppose technically that is correct. Although I think it would be foolish to just assume that the Ducks can do it this way every year. I know it's their style to wait, but I think that is a risky approach. It's an approach that cost them Ragin, although they certainly made up for that in the end.

It worked out this year. I just hope Mark does things a little different than Chip in the future. I would prefer he allow recruits to look elsewhere after verbal commitments without having to officially "re-open" their recruitment. That strict approach almost cost us Tyner.

I would also like to see us push even harder in the future for the OL & DL beasts out west. We'll never compete with the SEC for the beasts down south. But I think we could start competing with USC & UCLA for these type of players out west. Stealing a 4-star DE recruit from USC was a nice start. Although Prevot will likely end up a LB due to his lack of size for a DE, it was still a nice get for us.

But in order for the Ducks to truly take this thing to the next level, we will eventually need to compete for the likes of the Eddie Vanderdoes of the recruiting world. We start getting at least one of THOSE types of players each year, then we would have something really special going! Until that happens we will remain simply a good college football program, but never great.

There were four 5 stars in the state of Georgia this year and UGA sign none of them.  As of right now Georgia has LOIs from only two of the top 15 players in the state of Georgia.  That is a horrible almost nightmare scenerio for the in state school.

Utter nonsense.. J Gray and M Brown were 5 stars last yr for Texas. Darius James is a 5 star this yr by at least one service and considered the #1 interior OL in the nation. Baylor signed the #1 player in the state of Texas this yr, obviously a 5 star. Keith Ford is 5 star by some services and is going to OU.

Wow. That is a serious issue. To compete for titles you have to lock up your backyard

Sounded like BS when I heard it but there was no way I was going to check the validity of it.

Your team Auburn only got 2 of the top 15 Alabama players, and did fairly well in Georgia by poaching our recruiting coordinator (which is fine by me). Do you call that a nightmare scenario?

Yes, UGa needs to do a better job trying to keep home grown talent at home. The problem you have is this: you have another AQ school, GaTech in state, and then Auburn and Clemson flank the both sides of the state, within a half hour of the border. You obviously have neighboring teams in Bama, UF, UT and USCe, all of whom recruit heavily in the state. Plus, Georgia is one of hte top states for football prospects, so you are going to compete against the national powerhouses, too.

Looking at the top 15 per ESPN:

UGa - 4 (also got 8 of the top 30)
Ole Miss - 1
Bama - 2
Auburn - 2
USCe - 1
Clemson - 1OhioSt - 2 (Meyer knows the area well)
Notre Dame - 1
UF - 1

All that said, I wish they could do a better job building a fence around the state, but I just don't see them doing much better. And, it's not like they don't recruit well in other states. At the end of the day, we do just fine recruiting ... we just need to coach them better.

Recruiting is also about needs. Other than the OL, we did really well hitting our needs this year.

Per ESPN rankings:
  • UGa signs 4 of the top 15 recruits in Georgia.
  • Auburn signs 2 of the top 15 in Alabama.
  • Texas signs 3 of the top 15 in Texas.
By all means, we'll make sure to lock up our back yard. LOL.

I am ok with Auburn's class without the coaching change we probably land Rueban Foster and Dee Liner (both 5 stars) and rock the in state recruiting.  Considering the last two years a Top 10 class for Auburn is a small miracle.  For Georgia, who was one play away from playing in the national championship game, and only signing 2 of the top 15 out of your own state where you are the Big Dog then yeah I say that is a pretty poor performance and an ass whipping.

Complete reversal from last year after your best season since probably 1980.

Auburn will never lock up the state of Alabama 100% but we usually do have a nice piece of Georgia and with Rodney Garner back home that piece will only get bigger.  Remind me how many kids you have gone up against UA or Auburn in the state of Alabama and won?  How many have UA and AU beaten your ass on?

Sucks for you doesn't it?
