Letter of Intent Day THREAD....

February 6, 2013 4:12 pm

I am ok with Auburn's class without the coaching change we probably land Rueban Foster and Dee Liner (both 5 stars) and rock the in state recruiting.  Considering the last two years a Top 10 class for Auburn is a small miracle.  For Georgia, who was one play away from playing in the national championship game, and only signing 2 of the top 15 out of your own state where you are the Big Dog then yeah I say that is a pretty poor performance and an ass whipping.

Complete reversal from last year after your best season since probably 1980.
I guess it depends on what rankings you are looking at. ESPN has UGa with 4 of the top 15, 8 of the top 30. That doesn't seem to bad to me, does it to you?

If you can use coaching as an excuse, so will I. We got our recruiting coordinator poached with a month to go by your school, and on the eve of signing had rumours of our DC going to the NFL. That didn't help any.

I would also point out that if you know anything about recruiting, that Ole Miss and Auburn had great classes even though they sucked last year - especially your team - is no surprise. While it is almost counterintuitive, kids like to go where they can get instant playing time. That doesn't always happen at the teams that are on a good run.

Recruiting and relying on 5 star this, and 4 star that is the dumbest thing I've ever seen grown men obsess over (me included). You don't have to look any further than my Dawgs to understand how stupid it is. We've been ranked in the top 10 9 of the last 10 seasons, yet you don't see any NCs, and only 2 SEC titles. We were giddy when Crowell stayed home - how did that work out for us? Then, we were jazzed when Marshall signed as the #4 running back in the nation, yet yawned when Gurley signed as the #24 athlete, not even in the ESPN 150 - how did that work out for us? Rather nicely I would say.

You come back in 4 years and let's see how these kids did ... then if you can say we got our asses whipped, I'll own up to it.

As to our best season since 1980, we did win 2 SEC titles in the 03 and 05.

hmmm. Fab 55 article this week had Texas with the #5 Darius James
#6 Kent Perkins
#15 Jake Oliver (Griffin was on there, but was academically ineligible)

that would be 4 . I can admit it was not a great yr for Texas in recruiting and Texas needs to step it up. Lashing out may make you feel better, but it certainly does not change the facts. We both know that for Georgia or Texas to perform at their best they need to dominate their state in recruiting.

What the Hell has happened to Stanford they are ranking in the 60s on most of the sites?  It looks like they couldn't sign that many this year but good Lord that is awful.

Auburn will never lock up the state of Alabama 100% but we usually do have a nice piece of Georgia and with Rodney Garner back home that piece will only get bigger.  Remind me how many kids you have gone up against UA or Auburn in the state of Alabama and won?  How many have UA and AU beaten your ass on?

Sucks for you doesn't it?
There's an understatment ... 2 of the top 15 isn't close to locking it up, that's for sure.

What you are saying is that the talent runs deep in my state, not so much in yours. We've always held our own in Georgia and will do so in the future. Won't take the time to run down a list of who we've gones heads-up on, but there have obviously been many and we've done fine. Crowell comes to mind as a UGa win over Bama.

Also, our class this year filled needs quite well, and that is what you really want. Our main miss wasn't from Georgia, but from UF when we whiffed on Tunsil ... OT we need. We will be right at top 10 ... if that is what you call sucks, you've had a tough last fea years that's for sure.

Last 2 years on the field sucks for you doesn't it ... glad you got a woody over your recruiting that appears to put our classes about even. Maybe one of these days you might even field a decent team again. Until then, keep celebrating your recruiting wins. LOL.

Lashing out? I was simply pointing out the inconsistency in your statement. Kind of funny to talk about how bad UGa was doing when your own team was sucking at it too. If that's lashing out, so be it.

That said, we both agree that we need to do better. But, we also share the same problems, Texas even more so. You have a ton of in-state competition, and everyone coming from all around because of the quality of your players.

To be fair Texas can't sign as many this year so it is a small class and that hurts their ranking you guys signed 32 which is a ridiculous number and still couldn't land a 5 star.

Don't put too much stock in what a class is ranked.  Some schools are simply added to positions they need filled.

Now if your school is a Bama, tOSU, Fla or Mich.....then your school will probably do a lot better at getting the top recruits to look your way.   The rich get richer.  They have history and many recruits want to be a part of that history.

There will be some tough teams in the SEC and B1G to be sure.  These two conferences will see some great matchups in the coming years...

There is no inconsistency. That is typical internet logic. Instead of arguing the validity of the comment, lets create a strawman argument. I was surprised by Georgia's lack of success and commented on it. How Texas recruited this yr is irrelevant to the comment. As you saw, my position on was completely consistent. I thought both Texas and Georgia had sub-par recruiting efforts.

Texas recruited an unbelieveable O-line class. Outside of that it was pretty weak. Not on true DL to speak of and 0 DTs. That will leave a mark in 2-3 yrs..

You got any more excuses ... if so, please just put them in one post so this doesn't go on and on for pages.

There were four 5 stars in Ga per Rivals, 2 per ESPN. 2 went to Auburn, 1 to Ole Miss, 1 to OSU. For whatever erason, none of the 4 were ever really on the radar as serious targets. Is that really all that bad?

I've acknowledged that I'd like for UGa to do better, but I wouldn't call it rediculous that we didn't land a 5 star when we have a top 10, or close thereto, class.

I think some of you guys need to get some perspective.

But none of that talent goes to UGA. How many of Georgia's top ten players did Richt and UGA sign? One?

And even if Richt could sign 'em, could he do anything with 'em?   Wink

Last post because this could go on forever.

There is no inconsistency. That is typical internet logic. Instead of arguing the validity of the comment, lets create a strawman argument.  I was surprised by Georgia's lack of success and commented on it.
What lack of success are you referring to? A top 10-12 class? Filling major needs in the D secondary? 4 of the top 15 recruits in Georgia, 8 of the top 30?

How Texas recruited this yr is irrelevant to the comment. As you saw, my position on was completely consistent. I thought both Texas and Georgia had sub-par recruiting efforts.
I simply found it ironic that a fan of a team that did anything other than lock up their back yard would post criticizing another team for failing to do the same thing. Your admission of Texas' poor showing was in a subsequent post. And, I've been just as consistent as you stating that I wish my Dawgs would do better in state.

Texas recruited an unbelievable O-line class. Outside of that it was pretty weak. Not on true DL to speak of and 0 DTs. That will leave a mark in 2-3 yrs..

If my Dawg's were ranked in the mid-20's I'd be disappointed, too. But, we aren't. At 10-12, filling the needs we filled, I really don't have too many complaints. It would have been nice to pick up a few of the signing day prima donnas, but other than that I like our no. 10-12 class.

Finally, read my other posts as to how pathetic WE are for even having this discussion. No one knows how these kids are going to do. And trying to figure out why they are doing it will drive you nuts. The top RB from UGa just committed to Bama where they have 8, count them, eight 4-5 star running backs on the roster. 4 of them in this class. What rational person would do that?

Mike Leach's only note worthy recruit is a quarterback who shat the bed whenever he was on television and he pissed off the only recruiting pipeline that respects him..so it was an outstanding recruiting season for Washington State.

Holy crap.  Wazzu should have nowhere to go but up, but that's kind of funny from a WSU fan.

Two different arguments, of course, but we got 4 of the top 15. See the other posts here about my thoughts. No sense in repeating them.

Stanford was a young team last year and didn't lose that many. They also had quite a few who could have left early stay. Had they left they would have taken more I'm sure. The ratings are based off scores of the kids you sign so less kids is less score. Only team that can get away with not signing many and still ranking high is USC with all of their 4 and 5 star small class. Still, Stanford should have been able to get more 4 star kids at least. If they had doubled their class I'm sure they would have been around top 30 at least.

It will be interesting to see 3 years down the line how many of the kids of this class are starting and what kind of impact they have. Never can really judge any class until you see them play.
