Would Manning have taken 9ers to SB?

February 1, 2013 4:26 pm

Before I'm accused of plagiarism I stole this idea from NFL.com.

It was a topic last offseason that the 49ers were looking to possibly sign Peyton Manning.  Now they have the Kap dude who's lead them to a Super Bowl instead.

Would the 49ers be in the Super Bowl if they had signed Peyton Manning?

Nope, he would've blown that game vs the Packers. Too bad he wasn't a 49er. Then I could root for the Packers in the SB

Nope.  Harbaugh would have benched him for Kaepernick.  Duh.

Manning is a grossly over paid and over hyped Romo. So the answer is no.

How can Romo even make it into any conversation with a QB that has gone to the Super Bowl?

Yes.

Alex Smith was a few special team blunders from taking them to the superbowl.

Look Kaep is good, i dont mean to take anything away from him (i realize i am).......but this TEAM is insane.

Manning would've shredded that Packers defense.......and lets not forget that 49ers defense had their way w/ green bay.......and Colin did throw a pick 6 that game

and atlanta chokes harder than manning

Peyton Manning just this year finally beat the Chargers.  Do you really think he could beat the Seahawks, much less the Falcons?

Hell no.

Manning didn't go to SF because Smith dang near took them to the bowl. That's alot of pressure he would have been under to improve on that. Which his history says he goes one and done. So he went to Denver another solid team in a very. Easy division and figured the SB expectations were a little less. He knows deep down inside he doesn't win big games because he has been losing them his whole life.

I suppose if Peyton was driving the team bus he could've "taken" the team to the super bowl.  Unfortunately for Peyton fans the guy is 9-11 (never forget *tear*) in the playoffs.  It's really sad, too, because I like the guy.  He's the greatest regular season quarterback I've ever seen.  Completely unstoppable and makes very few mistakes. He's just a completely different player in the playoffs for some reason.  There's no reason a guy should have a 24% difference in winning percentage between the regular season and playoffs.  That's a GLARING difference.

Sure, he'd have taken the 49ers to the Super Bowl.

Just like he took Denver to the Super Bowl.

Just like he was going to take the Colts to the Super Bowl every single year.

Except ... then the playoffs happen ... and Captain Crap-his-pants goes one-and-done again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again (that's 8 agains, which funny enough, isn't an exageration).

Jughead isn't taking any team to the Super Bowl.  Window:  closed.

In the case of San Fran, he quite frankly would've gotten benched for Kapernick, who actually DID take his team to the Super Bowl this year.

An answer we won't know the answer to, but certainly a good discussion.

Nope, I think that he would've someway somehow found a way to choke/under perform against the Packers and gone 1 and done again.

^^^^^^^

History overwhelmingly agrees with you.

As do Broncos fans, at least since a few weeks ago.  Before getting smacked around by Baltimore, Broncos fans and Manning ball washers huffed and puffed all about how Peyton's cemented legacy of a playoff one-and-done choker has no impact on the future, and what happened before won't happen again, and not with a defense as great as Denver's, and etc., etc., etc.

Until we understand that the NFL playoffs come in such a small sample that they are often at the whim of random occurence and we can stop playing the results of them, we wouldn't be asking questions like this. Manning would have put the 49ers in a great position to be there, and whether or not the team made the plays in two playoff games to get to the super bowl they would be a great team.

Numbers regress to the mean in a substantial sample size. Maning doesn't lack any intangible trait that would stop him from being on a team that can win a super bowl or get there. He's been there twice. Why there is such a question about him posible having gotten there a third time with a geat defense and running game is silly.

Hey Zig, easy one for you ! This year would Manning have led the Patriots to the Superbowl ? Give him 6 try's inside the Ravens 25 yard line and let's see what he does.

Hey Zig, easy one for you ! This year would Manning have led the Patriots to the Superbowl ?

easy answer, no.

just play the odds...He's only 'lead' 2 teams to the SB in 14 years, 6 times he had better defenses/teams than this past year's Pats and couldn't do it. Also the cold weather obviously affected his abilty to grip the ball/throw. It was cold and windy as hell in Foxboro....

Not sure why you're asking me, I've said very little about Peyton losing yet again. Why beat the long dead horse? Most others are finally getting on board with what I've long thought about the guy. Not all his fault but you can't deny he's just not the same guy in the post season. Neither is Brady anymore for the record but he's also 36 and has already sealed the deal 3 times. Couple plays away from 5-0 in SBs.....a few plays away from even more than that...

But I've also cut Peyton some slack lately because I've seen to many teams that rely too much on the QB flame out in the playoffs. You need to play well in all 3 phases to win.
