Ray Lewis: First ballot HoFer?

O.J is a murderer and is in the HOF, why not Ray Buck Lewis?

Taking O.J. Simpson out of the HOF would be ex post facto.

On the other hand, so be it.

what's next..the words rad and fresh are coming back?
That would be sweeeet.

As for Carter, there's no question he should be there.  He was catching around 100 passes per year when catching 100 passes per year wasn't cool.  Great hands, great player, scoring machine, great competitor...it was just tough sledding back then in the NFC, so while their offense was damn good, their defense stunk.

But first ballot HoF isn't strictly about on the field. Irvin's arrest was in 1996 and his last game was in 1999 in Philly. He wasn't selected on his first year.
That's truly a horrible comparison, Rayne. Irvin wasn't the greatest receiver of his decade, let alone player.  Ray Lewis has a legitimate claim to best MLB of all time.  Ever.  In the history of the game.  Michael Irvin was a one time all-pro selection.  You are comparing apples to oranges.

13 time pro bowler, 10 time AP all pro, two time defensive MVP, (Mike Singletary, Lawrence Taylor, Joe Greene, Bruce Smith, and Reggie White were the only others to do this, and they were all first ballot HOFers), he has a ring, a super bowl MVP, and is arguably considered the best linebacker of his era, and probably top 3 greatest MLB of all time.

Look..Ray Lewis is going to be a 1st ballot...whether you like it or not, and on the field, he more than deserves that.  His off field problems can be argued til the cows come home, but it won't matter.

As far as being a biased Viking fan, on the contrary.  I am more critical of my teams..mostly because "bias" is the go to response for bean bags around here...

They were looking for trouble and they found it? Does that mean that they DESERVED to die? So tell, me...what did these two people do to deserve to die that night?

Do you know the whole story?  The dead guys dressed up as women and tried to get all around Ray the night before.  At 4 am the next night they are laying in wait for Ray by his car.  Then they attacked the Ray entourage.

Deserved?   You use loaded language.  There actions led to their deaths.   They literally got themselves killed.

Are you STUPID enough to think Ray planned to kill to idiots at Super Bowl time?

Okay-  I'll bite-  they deserved it.

Nonsense.  Ray is not the best.

Lawrence Taylor.  Dick Butkis.

Gimme a break-  Ray is solid but...

There are very few men that got in on their first ballot - in fact most don't. No one could deny that Michael Irvin was going to get in, yet the voters made him wait.
Absolutely, Ray gets in first-ballot.

Michael Irvin is a poor analogy, though. Not becaue of his "impact on the game"... but because of his position. It's notoriously tough for WRs to get in. Just ask Cris Carter. There are several HoF worthy WRs still floating around out there, to this day, who have been waiting for years. In fact, there are only 7 post-merger WRs in the HoF, and two (Jerry Rice, Steve Largent) WRs ever, who have gotten in first ballot.

There are very few men that got in on their first ballot - in fact most don't. No one could deny that Michael Irvin was going to get in, yet the voters made him wait. Probably had something to do with a hooker and cocaine in a hotel room. It was their way of sending a message.

_____________________

Michael Irvin was a Jerry Rice wannabe.  He was going to make the HOF but he was questionable on the first ballot anyway.  Michael Irvin wasn't as good as he thought.  He was a legend in his own mind.

A double murder scandal is an whole different ball game.  He should be a 1st round HOFer but having his name linked to a double homicide will more than likely kill that.

I don't see how they can let Ray off the hook.
Because according to the law, he has paid his dues, and he wasn't habitual like Irvin.

Irvin wasn't as dominant at his position as Ray Ray was his.  L.T. got in first ballot with not having a great rep, and Ray Ray is arguably the greatest MLB since Butkis...hell, maybe ever.  There's no question he's first ballot material.

Kylews8973, I really agree with this. I think Ray Lewis is, without a doubt, a first ballot guy. His impact on the game as an MLB is amongst the greatest contributions ever at almost any position. He has turned his life around and has become a positive figure for the NFL. He gets in as soon as he's eligible IMO.

Lawrance Taylor is not in this discussion because he was not an MLB.

You really think Ray Lewis's impact on the game doesn't rival that of Butkis or Singletary or any other great MLBs of all time?  You must not watch much football if you don't believe that.

Sure.  When pigs fly or Jerry Kramer gets in!

And that is why the HOF is a joke. One of the GOAT guards isn't even in it.

So if the HoF is such a joke, you wouldn't be upset if Tom Brady was left out?
