Too bad Snoogins isn't around for this. This would've been good an hour ago:
Emmit Smith's average over 5 years - 1948 yards from scrimmage, 18 TD's, 4.5 YPC
Shaun Alexander's average over 5 years - 1770 yards from scrimmage, 20 TD's, 4.5 YPC
"Let me know when any running back in history has done anything even remotely in the same universe as Emmitt over those 5 years"
So far we have 3 running backs just from the past 15 years or so. And it's not even including what AP has done which is arguably more impressive than all of them
"Cool story bro."
"Pimpin aint easy but it's necessaraaaaaayyyyyy."
"I could buy and sell you."
Hope that filled the void.
Sadly, his response wouldn't have been much different.
They were scheduled to compete in the NLC as early as 2008
Nobody said that. Nobody. Their pitching was atrocious for a decade.
Cardinals fans have been hearing for years how the Reds are up and coming
They aren't up and coming. They're here. They've won the division 2 of the last 3 years, and they're better than the squad that won 97 games last season.
They have gotten better I'd be a fool to ignore that, but they are anything but ahead of schedule.
In 2010 they were ahead of schedule. Nobody thought they'd win anything before that season.
Now? They're expected to win, and do win. They're on schedule.
Nobody said that. Nobody. Their pitching was atrocious for a decade.
They were predicted for at least 2 years prior to 2010 in the NLC. I remember it because I agreed at the time. They just sucked so bad that that is who they are now. An overrated team that got hot after the all-star break beating up on the Astros, Cubs, and Pirates.
During that span the Seahawks had the BEST left side in the game. That left side was downright nasty and I bet you they ran to that side 75% of the time. The other portion of their line was pretty sick.
AP has been blessed with a damn good running line as well.Snoogins whole point was that lines should be disregarded
i.e. that Smith's 5 year run had numbers so far and away better than everybody else that even if it was somewhat inflated by the great line, he's still the best ever
Alexander did have a super line, but no better than what Emmitt had in his prime, probably a drop off. And with all due respect to the 2 of them, Hassellbeck to Darrell Jackson ain't exactly Aikman to Irvin
If we want to take into account extenuating circumstances beyond a RB's control? Then I would say that AP's last 5 years are more impressive
No player in football is as much a focal point of opposing defenses as much as AP is to any defense taking the field against the Vikings.... maybe in history. Right now, the only other player in football who even remotely touches "I don't even care who else is on the field, just try to stop him" territory is Megatron.
LOL, even Priest Holmes, when you have to count 1 or 2 garbage years as part of it.... has a 5 year stretch not too far off from Emmitt's best 5 year stretch
Holmes average - 1691 yards from scrimmage, 16 TD's, 4.7 YPC
Expect the Jets to sign him and every other WR they can afford to sign because their Dbaggedness means no other team will want it
He deserves football purgatory too. You have to be a real asshat to screw up the opportunity to line up against Megatron. Lets see how he like Sanchez underthrowing some lobs his way
The 'best ever' RB would be a much tougher debate if guys like Priest, TD and Bo didn't have their careers shortened. Hell add Barry who walked away early.
honestly I don't know if Emmitt makes my top 10 going by sheer talent not 'career stats'.
