My question is -- so do the Lions fans on these boards consider Titus Young a bust?  Like Jahvid Best, he played about a season and a half.  I know many have said Best isn't a bust, as he put up some alright numbers in that time.

Just trying to figure out what is or isn't a bust to the Lions faithful here when talking about draft picks.  LOL.

I don't know the exact criteria for being a bust, but I would say any player drafted and only plays a year and half for the team and being released is a bust for that team.

Let me clarify alittle.....Any player drafted in the first two rounds. This shouldnt include the later round draft picks because alot of them are journeymen just trying to make a squad.

This is just your youth showing. It's ok....I applaud your optimism. I was once like you. I told my dad, This is the year. We have Barry Sanders and Scott Mitchell had a Pro Bowl year.

Heck think I told the ole man We have Matty Pimp and get ready for some damage to be done this year. Us older guys have all seen this tired game before.

When your ready to join the club I think zwic is a full member, meow might be crossing the picket line and I'll be the CFO to make sure no more money is wasted on this product we put on the field

That pretty much confirms what I said- you're not a Lions fan any longer, so stop kidding yourself and follow the Seahawks (who you like and are also good). You think we're always going to fail, every GM is going to be a failure in your eyes unless he drafts exactly who you think he should, and you think the owner is somehow to blame as well.

Face it man, you can't stand the Lions.

How could anyone not? The dude is a complete bust- very talented, but too much of a d-bag to succeed.

How he can honestly think he's better than Megatron is beyond me. I honestly think he might have some legit mental disorder.

I love that when he told his highschool coach (whom he is still close with) that he thought he was better than CJ the coache's reply was "No, you're not." Right to the point and not diplomatic at all, just the cold, hard truth.

I really hope that nobody picks him up and he just fades away into the heap of players who thought that they were bigger than the game. When the likes of T.O. and Irvin are telling you that you need to get your head on straight and be a team player, that's when you know that you've got a serious problem.

Oh yeah, TY,Sr. Is officially a busy now. Just be patient, you can call Jahvid Best a bust, and be correct, soon enough. (begrudged smiley face)

Definition of draft bust and success:

One, grades are incomplete until after the third full season unless Pro Bowl or Released

First Round:
Success = one Pro Bowl appearance in first 4 years or more.  Lions successes 2000-2009 - Stafford, Megatron, Roy Williams (+Suh)
Average = 6+ years in the league, 5+ as starter.  Lions average 2000-2009 - Backus, Ernie Sims (sort of) and project Pettigrew.  Cherilus borderline.
Bust - Not starting/out of football within 4 years.  Lions busts 2000-2009 - Cherilus borderline, M. Williams, C. Rogers, J. Harrington, S. McDougle, K. Jones

Bust-success ratio 6-3.  Considering how high the Lions were drafting (average 12th overall, would be 9th overall without Kevin Jones) this sucks.

Second Round:
Success=5-year starter or better.  Lions successes - Kalimba Edwards(sort of), Dom Raiola, Shaun Rogers
Average - starting after 3 years.  Lions average - Shaun Cody, sort of, Lois Delmas, sort of.
Bust - out of football after 4 years, or released.  Lions busts - too many to type. 8 in all

Bust-to-success ratio 8-2.5.  Again, ugly.

After that it's a crap-shoot, but number of Lions picks rd 3+ who are starters/contributors:

5 out of 33 picks between 2000 and 2009.

That's why the Lions can't win.  fire the entire scouting staff and start over.

Titus actually came out and said he is better than Megatron.  I almost fell off my chair.  We knew he was delusional, but this is just pure stupidity.  Glad he is gone.  Like the saying goes, You cant fix stupid.

No you can't. Which begs the question, why is the GM that DRAFTED Titus Young still employed with the Lions?

Hey naughtymax, one of the best summations and clarifications of the Lions draft efficency that I've seen posted.  Thanks for putting that together.

Too bad - I thought he'd be great for the Vikes - or maybe the Bears.  On the bright side, if he gets his head on straight, it's less likely he can come back to haunt the Lions.

Cherilous as a bust is just crazy, He has been with us 5 years and started 4, and he is not close to being out of the league. He is considered very good by a lot of people, the only reason he is probably leaving the Lions is they can't afford him, not because of skill.

Pro football focus ranked him as the 3rd best tackle prospect in free agency this year, only beat out by Clady and Andre Smith.

I agree with the rest of your list

In steps Jeff Fischer to snatch him up and correct his attitude only to watch Titus Grab 70 passes for over 1000 yards......His talent isn't the problem. The problem is the staff doesn't know how to reach kids with character flaws......Fischer does and wouldn't shock me in the least to watch some team make him a good receiver.....Chalk up another draft bust for Mayhew. 2nd rounder at that. It's ok to swing and miss with 4th and 5th round guys but swinging and missing at 1st and 2nd round guys consistently is why where assured to have another top 10 pick next year.
Posted this doozy yesterday on this thread. Less then 24 hours later the prophecy has come half true.....I'm going to have the a$$ if this joker catches 70 passes for over 1000 yards. It will just show Fischer is a better coach then his once little minion Jim Schwartz.

Titus is a Ram. Still going to be pissed about this in the future if JF can get this kid to play but our coaching staff couldnt........We have tons of issues and I really think it starts with coaching.

No doubt fire...But I tend to think Fischer is smarter then Dr. Phil......Why does this guy tell fat people how to deal with there weight and diet and he's a fat slob himself? Just astounds me anyone listens to therapist or pyschologist.......Most pyschologist have been divorced.....Why take marital advice from someone that didn't make their own marriage work? Ahh that's right because he has a degree......

These are just my opinions but I have a few shrinks in my family and they are divorced and I wonder to myself.......Granted there in-laws but looney tunes nontheless.

Millenhew made a pretty strong move by hiring Xanders a month ago to oversee the complete failure that Shack Harris is.

I like the Xanders move a lot, but this is at least the 3rd time I've heard you trashing Shack Harris. I gotta ask- what's your beef with this guy? He's just a personel executive, not lik he's in charge of the whole scouting department or anything. Just another set of experienced eyes to help out. No reason to make him the scapegoat for bad scouts/scouting.

I almost want Titus Young to have one monster year before bowing out of the league just so I can sit back and laugh while most the posters here bitch about how he should have never been cut.
