IGINLA traded to .......... BRUINS!?!

February 4, 2013 10:34 pm

With Iginla in his last year of his contract, Calgary is sure to move him .. right?

And if they were to trade him, wouldn't he want to go to a legit cup contender?

The Boston Bruins would be a great fit IMO

How does Boston fit him under their cap?  Well .. Savard's is on IR .. so that frees up the space needed.

Calgary would want some young pieces ... so Spooner would probably have to be offered.   They'd also need a LWer that can play now .. so maybe Bourque can be included as well.

Other pieces .. maybe a draft pick ... maybe another player playing with Providence.

3 players would be a lot for what could be a rental player, but maybe he resigns if he ends up liking it in Boston .. especially if he wins a Stanley Cup with em.

Why would Boston give up 3 players? Well ... to add a legit 30+ goal scorer .. particularly on the LW side would be leathal to an already very balanced offense.

Not to mention Jerome would add grit and another solid veteran pressence and a good guy in the lockerroom as well.

His no-nonsense style would be perfect in Boston and the fans would love him .. and in turn he'd love playing for em.

Go B's ... would love to see this happen

not thats it difficult to do, but Iginla has been a RW his whole career, as far as i know.....but sure he can play either side.
what line would he play on sox?? the top 2 lines are set and id hate to disrupt that.....

calgary wont' trade him unless he asks to be traded.  he's always said he loves playing in calgary, wants to finish his career in calgary.  i highly doubt they trade him, and i believe he'll signed to an extention before the deadline

Well if Feaster wants to have any chance at competing with the arms race building in Edmonton he'd better unload Iginla as well as Kipprisov. There should be enough teams looking at Iginla that they can get some nice pieces for him. Keeping Iginla out of Loyalty or any other reason does nothing but hold the franchise back.

Why would Calgary trade him you ask???  Lotta reasons:

1. They aren't going to make the playoffs
2. He's in the last year of his contract .. which is a $7 million contract
3. He's an older player and Calgary should be in REBUILD mode .. getting pieces in exchange would be the smartest move they could make

As for Iginla being a right wing .. that's true .. but when I played hockey, it didn't really matter what wing I played, even though I am a righty shot.  Being on the off-wing allowed me to set up for the one-timer and at a diff angle it opens up more of the net and often fools and confuses the opposing goalie.  If he didn't want to switch over, one of the other guys could do it as well.

As for which line .. I think he'd fit in with any of the top 3 lines .. they'd make the adjustments and would thrive.

The only real questions are ... Can the Bruins afford him?  Is Calgary smart enough to trade him?  And what would be a satisfying package for Iginla being that he's essentially a rental player unless he resigns?

Logically the Flames would be moving on without him regardless.  They are a good 2 or 3 years away from competing and making a trade would help kickstart getting competitive again.

Iginla deserves to be on a contender .. same as Bourque did after being with Boston so many years.  Sure it's hard to let go ... but if he ever won a cup he's be extremely happy and I'm sure the Calgary fans would be happy for him as well, just as the Bruins fans were happy to see Ray hoist a cup before he retired as well.

Is someone really saying that a 400 goal scorer could not crack the Bruins top two lines?

Or at least they would not want to see that?

I have now heard it all..... thanks

I don't think Tom was disrespecting Iginla's ability .. just doesn't want to see the lines disrupted I think.

That said ... if it was me personally, and he was to stick to RW, then I'd put him on the 1st line with Krejci and Lucic ... that would be a SERIOUS line to contend with.

I'd leave the 2nd line as is with Marchy, Bergeron, and Seguin cuz I agree the chemistry on this line is amazing to watch.

That would mean Horton would drop to the 3rd line, which would be good IMO.  He'd add some much needed size to that line and he could play RW and Peverley could make the switch to LW.

Do that and the Bruins would have 2 leathal lines and a solid 3rd line .. backed up with as good a 4th line as there is in the NHL.

AS I said before .. Spooner ... draft pick ... and one more player from AHL  ... should be enough for a rental IMO.   If the B's hold on to Bourque, he stays up until Paille is back .. then it's back to the AHL as an emergency callup when necessary.

Tim Thomas has been traded ... this really opens the door for the Bruin to make a trade with the extra $5 million in cap space.

More offense  to compliment  one of the more balanced offenses and one of the best defenses in the league, Jerome Iginla REALLY should be the target more than ever now that they have even more flexibility to do it.

Revisited:  which line he'd play on?

As much as Seguin's chemistry on the 2nd line was evident ... seeing him explode on the 1st line vs. the Habs can't be ignored.  It was like seeing teh training wheels fall off.

If Seguin makes the jump to 1st line .. which would be fine, IMO, Iginla would have to play RW on the 2nd line with Bergeron and Marchy, which would be like haveing two 1st lines.

Horton would then drop to the 3rd line and play RW and Peverley would have to switch to play LW ... Bourque would either be included in the trade or sent down to the AHL.   And as I mention before, Horton would add some much needed size on the 3rd line as well.

The 4th line remains the same with Paille, Campbell, and Thornton when all are healthy.

This just makes too much sense ... gitter done Bruins!!!

SCPB, if you think any deal with Bourque (lol) get that deal done then you are as fuck****ed as everyone says.  Subban and Spooner and a 1st.  Keep in mind the Bruins wouldn't be the only team involved.

Posting some homer trade and then backing it up with a "but....but....but, I was trying to say...." is quite pathetic. According to your name there are three other sports that are more important to you....stick to them. Trolling hockey boards should be reserved to Penguins and Capitals fans. No worries though, there are other Bruins fans like matty that will stick up for your team here with reasonable logic.
