smf52....a little something for you!!

February 5, 2013 12:02 am

Came across this little poem and thought some here would enjoy it; especially smf!! Hope you do. This poem is called "The New Kid".

<span style="color: #000000; font-family: Arial;">Our baseball team never did
very much,
we had me and PeeWee and Earl and Dutch.
And the Oak Street
Tigers always got beat
until the new kid moved in on our street.

<span style="color: #000000; font-family: Arial;">The kid moved in with a
mitt and a bat
and an official New York Yankee hat.
The new kid plays shortstop or second base
and can outrun us all in any place.

<span style="color: #000000; font-family: Arial;">The kid never muffs a
grounder or fly
no matter how hard it's hit or how high.
And the new kid
always acts quite polite,
never yelling or spitting or starting a
fight.

<span style="color: #000000; font-family: Arial;">We were playing the league
champs just last week;
they were trying to break our winning streak.
In
the last inning the score was one-one,
when the new kid swung and hit a home
run.

<span style="color: #000000; font-family: Arial;">A few of the kids and their
parents say
they don't believe that the new kid should play.
But she's
good as me, Dutch, PeeWee or Earl,
so we don't care that the new kid's a
girl.

Between my diminished capacity, the fact that I've worn the letters off of most of the keys on my keyboard so I sometimes have no idea what I'm typing and this site seemingly screwy today I don't know if my first response went through or not so I'll try again. The poem is good stuff in a nice simple, readable form. I like the names Dutch, PeeWee and Earl which work well and take me back to days when nicknames were commonplace.

Thank you Silas, that was very thoughtful of you. I enjoyed the poem immensely and could thoroughly relate as I experienced some of that when I was growing up. Like 67RS, the nicknames really brought the poem back to the good old days as well when we were young.

Silas, I just realized that you should win a prize. You broke 67RS' record streak of consecutive threads- at least I am guessing it is a record as I doubt anyone else is that prolific or that devoted to have started so many threads in a row.

Well, someone broke Dimaggio's streak, too, but 67RS's streak is safe!!

Speaking of streaks the Rockies longest Winning streak was 11 games in their famous run of '07 from September 16 - 27. They would have finished the season with 15 straight wins except for Brandon Webb, who is set to retire, beating Jeff Francis 4-2 in Game 12. During that streak the Rockies were led by Ryan Speier with 3 Wins ( only pitched 3+ Innings but didn't give up a hit ) Francis with 2 Wins and Franklin Morales who won the first and last games in the streak.
