leyland haters

Leyland is the perfect manager for this team and the city of Detroit.  He's knows the team and players better than anybody on this board and he's tough and gritty just like Detroit.  He's led us to 2 world series, granted we came up short, but we got there and had a chance, that's a hell of alot more than we can say for the last 20+ yrs. 

I'm a Leyland hater. I think I hate Lamont more though. Definetly hate Inge and Raburn the mostest......2nd place is only the first loser.......Leyland blows.

heelz23.....I understand that the term "hate" no longer means what it once did - but you will have to accept that the "standard" of today's sports fan is to not enjoy the game but, instead, look for things that they can respond negatively too. It seems sad (at least to me) that many sports fans watch a game looking, and hoping, to find something to complain about. The negativity is the "in" thing today. It isn't even constructive criticism....it is just plain old negativity. I would guess that psychologists would point to entitlement issues or negative self-image to explain this behavior....but maybe it is just the way American humans are today. Hey, we have an entire political system based on hate and negativity!

I'm not a Leyland fan, either, but after some time to reflect, think he did a decent job last year.  I still think that with the talent we had, especially at starting pitcher, many managers could have gotten us to the Series.  He did, though, so props for that.  Let's hope that this year we go a little further, because I still think second place isn't good enough, considering how infrequently we win the championship.  I am looking forward to baseball again as we ready ourselves for another winter storm.  Until then, GG, GW, let's win a B1G championship (even though I think UM is the best team but would never admit it publicly).

I just can't give Leyland credit for last year. The White Sox had a meltdown late. That had no bearing on how Leyland was managing the team......He still puts together the crappiest lienups on a dialy basis.....There was no need to see Raburn in every flipping game at three different posistions.

This years roster is different thus far....I like the guys on it, so even when JL is playing hunches everyday atleast he doesn't have the choice to put Inge or Raburn in the game. Once DD took those options from him the Tigers got better.

I hold Jimmies feet to the fire over his love affair with Raybums Kelly and Papa Fatso.  Any half-wit could see that these 3 did not EARN the right to start for the Tigs last year.  Other than that, I back themuzz.

Yes and poets don't pick the Tigers lineup daily...If one of the quotes were from Jimmy himself I might have respected it, but atlas it isnt.


Leyland sucks and you can quote Mark Twain, Shakespeare or Hemingway for all I care. Still won't change that old goats managing.

It would be an interesting social experiment if someone could poll baseball fans from each team and find the percentage of fans that do not like the current manager of their team. Just my hunch - but I would guess that the number would excede 50% for every MLB team. Dumping on the manager is an American baseball custom....especially for the superficial or part-time fan.

JL could get abducted by aliens today and the Tigers chances of winning the WS wouldn't change one Iota in Las Vegas.....That's how valuable he is.

If Cabrera or Verlander got abducted by aliens today, Vegas would drop their odds to nil that the Tigers when a WS......See.....JL means nothing to this team....I guess we need a skipper......Just let Paws pull double duty.
