What should your team give up for Alex Smith?

This is for posters' teams that have poor QB situations. If the only way your team could get Smith was via trade, what do you think the fair asking price should be? Or do you pass? Discuss.

I think a 2nd and a 3rd is a fair price. Especially since he's still under contract at a bargain price for a quality NFL starter.

Nothing. The guy throws short 5 yard passes. The 49ers had a good system, many teams don't. The only team that should consider going for him is the Patriots, biggest Alex Smith is basically a younger, cheaper and more accurate Tom Brady. This would prboably lose lots of fan support though, because the handicapped Patriot fans still believe Brady is a good QB.

Now I am by no means an expert on this kind'a stuff, But a 2 and a 3? Sounds kinda cheap. Smith (love him or hate him) got them to the playoffs last year. (this year? mabey?) To the right team I think a first round plus something else.

I was taking into account the dink and dunk rep and limited rep for big plays. That's gonna factor into the negotiating.

I would argue their exceptional defense and running game got them into the playoffs last year. Smith just managed the offense.

Depends on where the team drafts, but a second round pick should do it.

I'd take a 2nd rounder right now from any team, however with SF already having 13 picks this draft & very few holes to fill on the roster I'd rather trade him for a current established player.

I think he's worth no more than a 3rd rounder because nobody is talking about him being a franchise QB & the team already said it would release him if no trade developed quickly. So teams might take their chances getting him as a FA instead of giving up picks or players.

i wouldnt give up more than 4th rounder for him...

sorry i just dont trust him outside of Harbaugh's system... Harbaugh built that offense specifically for Smith... and he still couldnt wait to bench him this season. granted Kaepernick is a bonafied stud....but still

and most of the teams that need QBs.... Jags, Jets, Chiefs, Raiders.... are terrible football teams.... and he is not good enough to win for them.

The Browns and Vikings are by far the best landing spots for Alex Smith.... they have the team around him that might actually make it worth while to fork over a 3rd round pick....

Not saying I would be disappointed if the Vikings traded a third for Alex Smith, but our GM is giving Ponder another year, and he loves draft picks. He isn't going to trade away a third for a QB close to 30.

Smith might be similar to Matt Cassell. He can win some games in a good system but then can be inconsistent with a different team. Cassell had a good season with the Chiefs in 2010 but he and the Chiefs weren't successful for '09, '11 or '12. So if things go well for the Chiefs, maybe Smith can help the team be a playoff contender but I'm not sure how many seasons Chiefs can be successful.

Not that much, I may be wrong but I believe he nothing more than a game manager, who had one of the best coaches in the right system with some of the best talent around him.

Mark Sanchez it's an even trade garbage for garbage. Smith was nothing before Harbaugh and will return to nothing next team he goes to.
