What if the Eagles traded for Cam Newton..?

February 6, 2013 10:48 pm

I know the guy is hated across the league by fans. Everyone talks about how Cam Newton "sucks." But then again, Cam Newton has played on a team with barely any talent over the last two years.

I want to know what people would think if the Eagles were to trade for Cam Newton. The guy can run and throw the ball -- there's no doubting that. His regular season numbers are certainly much better than anything Michael Vick would be able to put up -- at least in the throwing department. The guy is also a 6'5 quarterback, so he's a pretty big guy that can run and throw the football -- and it looks like Cam would be a great fit for Chip Kelly's current offensive style similar to the 49ers next year.

With Cam -- The Eagles would likely be looking at 20ish touchdown passes, 15ish interceptions,  rougly 4,000 passing yards during each year, and around 700 rushing yards to go along with 8-14 rusing touchdowns per year --if not better stats than that since the Eagles actually have SOME offensive talent on their roster unlike the Panthers.

What would people think about this?

Its a pipedream and would never happen. no way the Panthers give up Cam. Unless, the Eagles gave them their next 3 or 4 1st round draft picks.

Again, after watching "athletes" play qb for the last 25 years why would anybody want this?  We tried Randall, Donovan, and now Vick...hasn't worked yet.  I would rather watch the CFL than watch one minute of Newton in an Eagle uniform.

I wouldn't go that far. Perhaps a second and third round draft pick or something along the lines of that. Even Larry Fitzgerald and Colin Kaepernick aren't worth three or four first round draft picks.

Cam Newton is better than Mike Vick. The guy is bigger, stronger, is obviously capable of throwing the ball better, and it looks like he can run plenty of times. Heck, even on the Panthers' pathetic squad, this guy was responsible for 27 touchdowns last year for his team and 35 the year before. His career QB rating is an 85, which is also better than Mike Vicks', and he's only 23 years old.

I think to trading away Mike Vick to Carolina along with a couple of 2nd and 3rd round picks or such would be worth it.

So you think the Panthers would get rid of the franchise QB they took #1 overall two years, after a record breaking rookie season and an average follow up for a couple 2 or 3rd round picks? Let's wake up here, guys.

Nope, a culpepper type quarterback works until an injury than they are bottom tier talent. It's going to happen with Newton and he is way too inconsistent to be a good pocket passer.

Well if you look at it --

A 2013 2nd round draft pick, a 2013 third round draft pick.

A 2014 2nd round draft pick, a 2014 third round draft pick.

Michael Vick to the Panthers.

Newton should ask to be traded anyways -- He won't have the talent to help put him in the playoffs and bring out his fullest potential in Carolina until he's a 10 year veteran.

Your 100% correct Bishop, lets forget about this whole Cam Newton topic and discuss this whole:

Chip Kelly is the frickn head coach of our Eagles?

I mean seriously did Luire get hopped up on meth and say " screw it" and hired this douche bag to piss fans off even more?

Lets face NFL fans love razing us about past failures, but this is going to make us look even worse then Cowboy fans!

Would take way more than that to get Newton, Vick sucks and most of the league knows it.

I have seen a lot of retarded threads on here but this one beats them all.

Why would ANYONE want Cam Newton? He is Vince Young 2.0...atheltic, big arm, can run, and too stupid to be an NFL starter. Sorry, if you want an atheltic QB, you would want someone who is smart as well (Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick, RG3, Andrew Luck to name a few).

Cam Newton is so bad and worthless that a couple of his own teammates have thrown him under a bus (and rightfully so). Why exactly would Steve Smith keep quit about the failure that his Cam Newton? Smith knows he has about 2 more years to win his ring, so there is no reason for him to kiss Cams rear window.

Right now there are about 12-15 QBs who are better than Cam. So there is no chance that you can win a SB with him. So there is no reason why you would trade for him.

Eagles fans getting desperate... The Panthers recent #1 overall draft pick oozing with talent in Newton and you are seriously asking about snagging him for a couple of decent picks and the QB whom Lurie plans on releasing. What a joke.

By the way, the Panthers are better than the Eagles. Their talent is young, while your "talent" is old and overpaid.
