CSN Bay Area doesn't expect the 49ers to re-sign free agent ILB Larry Grant. Grant turned in an impressive three-game cameo in place of an injured Patrick Willis in 2011, but surprisingly played just 21 snaps on defense in 2012. An unrestricted free agent, Grant could have trouble finding a starting job. Feb 6 - 7:03 PM

If what we (Reggie) are looking for is a bargain, then let's take a hard look at Larry Grant. I remember those 3 games he played in 2011 and someone made a comment last year that we should look at him. I am in total agreement. He would fill a huge need and would cost us peanuts.

I like that idea...Atleast he'd give the effort. He was killing it the year before when Willis went down. And he could be the real cheap option that would come here to compete with another player to start

I t brings up a good point Vapor...we are going to have to r pound out the roster with these types of signings. There's just not enough money to bring in studs at every spot, since we have so very many, unfortunately. It's going to test the abilities of RM to find some diamonds out there....he definitely swung and missed at a few last year. This year may be more difficult..I'm hoping we get at least two guys on the draft that can come in and play considerable minutes right away, but who knows...

I wanted Grant last year too, but hopefully now we can get him cheaper. He's half the price of McClain & plays with twice the heart.

There are only usualy a couple special MLB's in the NFL. A solid lunch pail guy like Marvcus Patton is all you can ask for. Sure bring him in.  The one we have is a bum. A negative force. MLB is supposed to be your signal caller and student of the game.

You're right, Vapor.  That would be a nice signing.  The only edge the Raiders may have at signing him would be that he may not have to move.  Other than that, even guys on the cheap really have to feel the love, like Wheeler did, to seriously consider Oakland.  They'll likely sign for the same or even slightly less money to play for a contender.  Bears are gonna be looking for someone to eventually replace Urlacher...just sayin'.

Grant could have trouble finding a starting job.
If plays anyting like he did in those 3 games he was able to start, he'd be smart to look at Oakland as a possible landing. He has to have the best chance at landing a starting position here.

Niners run a 4-3 or 3-4? If the former cool. May bring him in anyways, he did play very well last season when Willis was injured.

Don't expect the Raiders to make any big moves in free agency.

i have thought that too , i saw that game when he went off
but the Raiders do run the 4-3 , so can he be the man in the middle
of the 4-3 ?  gotta be as good if not better than mcClain , cheaper
i am adamant we pay Philip Adams and put him on one side
try to go get a FA corner , DT is a huge area of concern , draft some one
I was all over Star , now there is a heart condition issue , so i dunno
should we go with pork chop at guard and sign a rt tackle ? that would
make our OL pretty good looking , DT , DE through the draft ?
need a back up RB and safety too

this is doable , but gotta cut out some contracts to sign the FA
my take is this
FA  =  rt tackle  ( A Smith ? )
FA  =  corner   ( Smith, Porter ? ) sign Ndamdi again ? bring him home ?
FA  - DT  ( Dorsey , keep Desmond give him a shot )

draft

DT , DE , RB , CB

resign

Myers
Wheeler
Adams

cut

Seymour , Kelly , Rolando , dead weight DBs , Palmer restructure heavily
