"This is false.  You are stereotyping that all religions dress a certain way because they are that religion.  Believe it or not, all Muslims do not wear a turbin, some Amish bounced after rumspringa(sp?) and don't maintain the same look, and I'm not sure what a Jewish person is supposed to look like in your world, but they certainly don't wear a yamaka(sp?) at all times.  So to some that up, you are just as likely to pin point someone for their religion as you are the sexual preference."............You are correct but when they are in traditional dress they are easy to see or spot, same with race. You cannot spot sexual preference, and that's the point.

I wouldn't care, unless it becomes too much of a distraction. Actually, I guess I would think it was brave of him to do. And good for him, but then again, it becomes a distraction...then not so much. It would suck if his performance drops, and has to be cut from the team. That would be a bit of a mess.

As a fan, if that guy performed well then I don't think most fans would care but as a player it would be hugely different. A locker room is sacred where stuff is said because you're men. You share stories, you go out drinking together, you shower together. It would be tough, it'd be like having a chick in the locker room in a way where you would have to think twice about what you say or how you act. I know not every gay man thinks another dude is hot but even if some chick you would not sleep with is showering next to you are still going to look and have the what if thoughts which makes it just uncomfortable which is why men and women are segregated when it comes to locker rooms right? If a gay guy is in the locker room he is either going to have to be like the Cubans who played in the MLB since the 1890's that keeps quiet, doesn't act gay etc or be like Robinson and become a martyr for gay athletes.

Not at all. I would however be ashamed if they felt a need to make their personal life public. And then cried when everybody didn't accept them. And that goes for straight or gay.
Ok so a more appropriate question.  Should they hide it?  What if the qb for your team was gay and after the game he went and hugged and kissed a man?

"  Should they hide it? "................Again get over yourselves. Nobody wants to hear what your sexual preference is. That's the point. If a person feels the need to express that. They better be prepared for whatever comes their way............." What if the qb for your team was gay and after the game he went and hugged and kissed a man?"..................I see men hug and kiss at sporting events all the time, in fact it's pretty common in sports. Before fights, and big wins and losses, heck didn't Cowher kiss Cordell one? If a person feels a need to bring their sex life into the public forum, don't cry if you get ridiculed! It's really pretty simple again sexual preference isn't like skin tone, or religious dress etc........

what you have to understand is that making a huge deal about coming out of the closet, and kissing your husband/boyfriend in joy after the super bowl are two totally different things.

I'd want him off the team and wouldn't care about any Chick-fil-A parking lot protests.  It would be a media circus as well as a distraction to the team.

How insecure and low does a person have to be to let another person's sexuality effect them?

Is T.Brady coming out of the closet? He does like to dink and dunk :}LOL

Ok kidding around aside...

If a guy in the NFL comes out of the closet then the other players can shower at the sports facility or somewhere else or the facilities can just install 53 separate shower stalls...

This would be the title of this thread in 1964. with many less siding with the black athlete. To have Culliver come out ,and say" no not on my team" is beyond comprehention as this would pertain to him 50 years ago. It sad how far we still have to go as a species to accept our fellow man " for the content of his character not the color of his skin" or his sexual preference. When will people realize civil RIGHTS are not just civil privaleges. It seems that some people are not happy unless they have something to fight against, when we'd be much better off if we would could just get behind the things worth fighting for.

Hey SteelerKing, you just gave us your honest answer and I'm in no way doubting it.

I just would like to know your reaction, if Ben Roethlisberger came out and said, he was "Bi"?

"what you have to understand is that making a huge deal about coming out of the closet, and kissing your husband/boyfriend in joy after the super bowl are two totally different things."..................There you go again. I DON'T HAVE TO UNDERSTAND ANYTHING! I'm entitled to have my own opinions. And frankly I don't care about other peoples sexual preferences. Example, if a woman chooses to have multiple partners and be open about it. I don't have to respect her or her life style that's my option! If a male chooses to openly cheat on his wife. I don't have to respect him or his life style that's my option! If people choose to come out of he closet I don't have to agree with it that's my option. Now at the same time I never asked, didn't want to know, in every case their choices were put out there by them. No discrimination by me, they brought it up, they brought it out, they made their choices/life styles public, deal with it. Can't expect everybody to agree or see it as ok, that's life. And then when some folks don't see it one particular way they get labeled as a bigot? Or hate monger etc........hypocritical.

So lets assume a football player is a homosexual and he's asked about it.  What should he say?  Because if he is truthful and says yes, you really believe he deserves the hate that will surely come his way because of his sexual preference?

What you you have to understand is of course everyone is entitled to their opinions, whether or not you approve of homosexuality.  However to say that a person "deserves what's coming his way" is about as ignorant as it gets.  I personally think the act of homosexuality is gross.  I'm not turned on by men and it baffles me that some men are turned on by other men.  However I also think that deer meat is disgusting and can't imagine how in the world people enjoy it.  Doesn't mean I think less of a person for liking something I don't and that they deserve to get ridiculed because of it.

"Nobody said everybody has to like gay people or the idea of homosexuality.  But hating someone because of their sexual preference is akin to hating someone because of their religious/political views."............No its not. First off can't look at somebody and see their gay. You can however look at somebody and see they are Amish, Jewish, Muslim, etc. Same goes for race. You cannot look at somebody and say homosexual or straight.
So you can look at someone and tell what their religious or political views are?

What would your reaction be if a player from your favorite team were to go public with their homosexuality?   I am doing a Graduate School project and would be interested in your responses. Thanks.
First off, the internet is the wrong place to get answers for a graduate school project, and if you're in graduate school, I assume you already know that.

I would not care. Honestly. People think someones homosexuality makes them different or something. Doesn't mean anything to me. Their life is their life. It affects me not....
