I've never seen it written Jawja before. I've heard it pronounced that way - just never spelled w/ a "J". I think Midwesterners & NorthEasterners would tend to pronounce "Jawja" as a choppy staccato word with a cadence like "tip-toe" instead of the more drawn out "Jaawww-Jaaah".
It makes perfect sense now - I've just never seen it before.
