Cheering for a conference more than cheering for your favorite team, or cheering for a conference instead of having a favorite team or one you support is pathetic maybe. However are people really cheering for the conference because their team sucks? Or is it because their team happens to be a part of that conference? Just as:

A parents cheer's for all of their child's schools teams even though their child only plays on the baseball team.
An individual feels pride and boasts of their state or homestate and all of its accomplishments even though they have never done anything to accomplish those feats.
An individual cheer's and boasts about the country they are from or were born in.
A graduate cheers for all of their alma maters athletic teams, despite never watching  or caring about water polo, volley ball, or long distance running before. 

A individual fan supports a team yes, however that team is a part of a division/conference/whatever higher group you want to call it and when it comes to discussions about higher groups it is very natural to support the group in which the fan's team resides. 

They are 'wanna be's. Wishing to be a part of something they never can.

I have no problems with people who cheer for their conference.

Now, the ones who beat their chest and act like they are the biggest bullies on the block because another team from their conference won the BCS Title ...

You nailed it RobToxin...Alabama wins another NC and the entire SEC is railing on Notre Dame. Really? Tide fan deserved to; the rest of them not. And to add insult to injury they go on and on about what their team would have done to the Irish just because Alabama won. Alabama has bragging rights; the rest of the SEC TBD. Doesnt matter how your team did vs Alabama or what happened in the past. That was then, this is now. It is really pathetic when a Miss State fan who clearly despises Ole Miss cheers for them for the good of the conference or Auburn pulling for Alabama...that is a very intense rivalry, i.e., tree poisoning, incident in New Orleans and on and on.

You're on drugs if you think this happens.  I quarantee you that the vast over whelming majority of Auburn fans wanted Alabama to lose even if it was to ND and I can promise you State fans felt the same about Ole Miss v Pitt. 

That being said I never felt like ND should be there and I think they proved on the field they were not the second best team in the country.  Oregon, Texas AM, Baylor and definitely Georgia all would have given them a better a game if not won out right.  Those are facts not conference homerism and you need to learn the difference.

I am on drugs, (well just today cuz of fat tues) and I know that!  If you think any LSU fans were pulling for bama (when they knew how close they were to being there) YOU ARE WAY OUT IN LEFT FIELD!

I do remember Bama fans pulling for Auburn in the NC game.  I am not saying all but they did.  

It happens and it's not exclusive to the SEC, it happens in football but I would say its happened in CBB longer. I remember during the tourney pulling for conference members of the BigEast and others from other BE schools doing the same when our team didn't make it or got picked off and vice versa. Also lets not leave out the gambling angle either, makes folks alot more comfy putting Money on teams they know and then pulling for them to win some $ for you.

Thank you for clearing that up for me Wild-Turkey. I thought Georgia and the Aggies already played them. One won, the other one lost. Of course it is conference homerism. You may not be one of the homers but there are lot of fans who are. Clearly Notre Dame was out muscled and outmatched no doubt about it. Most Irish fans didnt want them in the NC game because they were not ready for the BIG game but to say with certainty any of the teams you mentioned would have won is ridiculous. Easy to say now when they didnt play them.

There are folks from all over the world here today of enery race and nationality. Look tomorrow and tell me how many mass murders or even just fights and robberies happened!
I can tell you cuz it never happens here on this day AND our cops are THE BEST AT CROWD CONTROL, PDs from all over the USof A send their officers here to study what they do! 

New Orleans has problems like every big city with a population of  minorities of over 50%, but we do pretty good with the parades and the football games, THIS CITY KNOWS HOW TO HAVE FUN and SHOW OTHERS HOW TO!
