Matt Cassel is back!

February 10, 2013 5:09 pm

Andy Reid will take the best lineman in the draft this year. That will be either Luke Joekel or Star Loutitiuoie. I think they take the best OL and that will be a great choice for Kansas City. If they re-sign BA we will have the best OL in the NFL. Get ready to draft Jamaal Charles in your fantasy league! Charles will prove he's the second best RB in the NFL next year! AP is th best. BUT the reason this thread is here is because Matt Cassel will save our Chiefs next year with Andy Reid coaching! This will be the offense we thought we had a couple years ago!!! Cassel can read defenses and he's accurate on the short throws... emm... I know JC will flourish with Reid coaching!!! Cassel is back! He will surprise us all I think! Beef the lines up and draft some CB and pass rushers! Lets gettum! Go Chiefs!

Chief Terry,

If they bring Cassel back as the starter, that would be like Clark Hunt kicking all the fans in the nuts.  The stadium cheered his injury.  If I was Cassel, I wouldn't want to come back.

I wouldn't mind any of your draft options on your poll.  I really like Jarvis Jones, if his health clears.  Can't argue with the other choices as well.

If we trade back to about 10 and draft Wormack, coupled with BA, we could have a beast of a line.  Your proposition of BA and Joekyll doesn't make a ton of sense.  BA says he will only play tackle.

chief terry i think Alex Smith will be our qb by draft day, then the Chiefs will try to trade back in the draft  and gain some picks.  Maybe barkley or glennon in the second rd.

Chief, are you serious? I like your optimism but the Chiefs would be negligent to involve Cassell with anything first string. I don't doubt that Reid would help Cassell play better, but what we need is beyond Cassell's reach.

ChiefTerry, has GooGooDolls introduced you to the crack pipe?  Sadlly even some of his posts make more sense than this. :(.

In all honesty I think the OL picks hold some merit (though I really think we should be aiming for Warmack instead of Luke and Milner instead of Star).  But if Cassell is back he will be at significant paycut and as a clipboard holder.

Casshole****s cap number makes him expendable. Alex Smith is staying put and I would not part with anything higher than a 5th round pick for Flynn. I like Joekel but Im with mrlockdown81 in that I think Warmack is a dominator like Will Shields was and could really improve our O line provided we keep Albert. I also like Milliner but I like Barkevious Mingo and Jarvis Jones better. We need a premier pass rusher opposite Hali. Houston aint the guy, sure he had some sacks but the elusive tackles behind the line of scrimmage (other than sacks)eluded Houston. With Hali taking a double team on every single play Houston should have put up bigger numbers. Houston is better suited as a situational pass rusher not a full time starter. On my draft board Barkevious Mingo sits #1, Joekel, Star, Jarvis Jones, Milliner.

Our QB should be whoever is available in the 2nd round or a trade back into the first round and selection (Matt Barkley please). I still think Matt Barkley is the best QB in this draft.

A few of my thoughts here, Ganja. If you plan on playing zone, then Milliner will be a very good player for you. However, if you think he's a man CB, or that's what you're drafting him to be, you will be very disappointed. That being said, unless my defense was a Tampa 2, I wouldn't select Milliner in the top 10...period.

Mingo and Jones are both good players with big quesions to them. Jones has the well publicized stenosis issue, and he plays a position that will guarantee plenty of violent collisions. As a Chargers fan, I'm very familiar with having a top player with that issue suddenly disappear after 5 short seasons in Marcus McNeil, a former pro bowler whose injury kept cutting into his time on the field and his effectiveness until it finally put him out of the game. That was a huge blow to the Chargers, especially since he and Dielman both had to quit due to career ending injuries in the same year. He would be a truly huge, huge gamble with the No. 1 pick in the draft, IMO. In fact, although I love the guy, I think any team who takes him before the 2nd round is crazy it the reports of stenosis are correct.

Mingo has other issues. For one, he's not going to put on any weight. His body is just not built for it. Secondly, he's not very strong, or very good with his hands. And lastly, he's a one trick pony on his pass rush. If his great 1st step gets him around the OT, the QB is going down. If he gets engaged by the OT, he's done. This could be helped out by coaching. He essentially only gets his sacks due to his speed. He has ZERO pass rushing moves. If he can learn a couple of moves, plus build up his upper body strength and hand punch, then he could become elite. Between Jones and Mingo, I love Jones' talent a lot more, but unless I find out Jones' stenosis is either fabricated, or not at all serious (I find that hard to believe since USC just doesn't fail a 5 star recruit for nothing on their physical so he can sign elsewhere) I'd draft Mingo far ahead of Jones as it stands right now.

Mingo is 6'5" and weighs 240 he has room for more on that frame. According to LSU coaches Mingo was asked to contain more than rush this year. Mingo is the best athlete in this draft. I will agree that he is raw but a few years ago I advocated taking Jason Pierre-Paul who was also light and raw and many on this board poo pooed that idea. I am sure we would all take Pierre-Paul over Tyson Jackson at this point.

Im not high on Milliner I just agreed with an earlier assessment that 'I liked him' I dont think there is any chance we take him.

The stennosis issue is worrying but a simple x-ray will either confirm or debunk that at the combine. Definitely risky.

Bottomline for me is the #1 pick had better be an impact player somebody who makes things happen whether its sacks and turnovers or touchdowns we cannot afford to take another Tyson Jackson or Jonathan Baldwin. We need a guy who can come in and play and make an impact right away, Week 1, this year.

Go Chiefs!
