Talking about potential free agents for 2014 right now only accomplishes two things.

1.  Illustrating exactly how bad this team is right now and that 2013 is another throw away season.

Freaking soooooooooooo sad, but so damn true

Team has a slim chance of being good. Slim as in Shark becomes an ace. Garza bounces back. Baker and Jackson produce normal years. Stewart hits 25-30 HR and produces 80 RBI in the 5 hole. Sori plays a full season. Rizzo doesn't have a traditional sophomore slump. They don't sell off the team to get a better pick. And so on. Very slim chance for sure.

He is 37 and old knees. 2 years ago no one would have even said what you said. So after 1 solid year he has value?

Regardless of his age, as a Cub, Soriano has sported a .264 AVG, 27 HR's, 80 RBI's, and a .320 OBP. Some of that came out of the lead-off spot.

Josh Hamilton just signed a 5 year mega-deal and in a hitters park hit a robust .302 AVG, 28 HR's, 101 RBI's, and a .359 OBP out of the 3-hole with runners that get on in front of him and protection behind him. Add in Hamilton's defense too, but he also inked a deal for 25 million per year and he is also a major risk both health wise and other issues as well. The Angels obviously thought otherwise.

So do I think Soriano has value aside fom last year? You betcha.

I would call it he was healthy for a year and accepted his limitations and adjusted finally.

Maybe. But if he adjusted, than it puts even greater value on him. He could have just sat back and raked in his contract and not cared. Soriano was the lone RBI producer before Rizzo came up last year. Considering he had limited to no protection, I'd say he did and has done rather well.

He is a risk and teams do not want to spend the quality type talent that Theo went and demanded in return.

The defending World Series Champions obviously did, but it just so happens that Soriano nixed the trade.

They best spot for Sori is in LF with the Cubs.  Bottom line.

Bottom line is that the best left fielder the Cubs have is Sori, but not if he wants to win a World Series.
