GREAT NEWS ... A PICKLES THREAD

February 12, 2013 11:24 am

As long as VP's logic says Sam Bradford is a few great playoff performances away from being elite, I am all good with that.
Well then you won't be very good with that, since as I've already mentioned multiple times..... don't consider Flacco elite

Nor do I consider Bradford's regular season numbers identical to Flacco's

No, I really don't care to explain the obvious.

That sometimes offenses are more laxed when their ace is on the mound. Or to put it another way. There is less pressue to score more runs when the ACE is on the mound

Or

that pitchers really have nothing to do with the offensive production? (unless in the rare case they get a hit/HR themselves in the NL)

I remember Pete mentioning something about Pitchers and wins..as if they had some signifcance...

Verlander got less run support than any other Tigers pitcher. Care to explain?

_____________

He pitches on the same day as the oposing team's ACE and therefore two motivated teams are in a deadlock! :)

They're all jealous of Upton.
That's actually a pretty legitimate reason

When he has to pitch at an NL stadium, I hope Aroldis or some other flamethrower aims it right for the head

You said somthing like he is close to elite, so I will take that as well. Glad we finally cleared up your true opinion of Bradford. You had been fooling yourself for so long.

I will say that the ACE doesn't motivate his team but, 100% correlation to the crips defense and better at bats in a well pitched fast moving game vs. a guy that walks 7, goes to three balls on another 10 and is giving up runners and runs. Defense tends to slack and you have to believe that in the middle of July/August in the heat, it takes it's toll at the plate.

but, does an ACE make his team better?!

Check the batting stats for Gardner on the days that CC pitches vs. Nova

Or even that players feel more pressure to play better for their Ace and give them run support so they begin to force things.

In other explanation can be two Brown haired and brown eyed people having a blond haired and blue eyed child.

There is almost always an exception to a rule.

I think better phrasing that is nitpick proof would be.

An ace can and should elevate the play of his teammates and opponents.

Also a clarification needed for nitpickers would be my definition of elevate is applied as an elevation of effort not necessarily performance.

i don't like lebron.

he's a great player.

he also has a lot of help from the refs.

the end.   never said he sucks, unless it was sarcastic.

so this ^^^^^ post is somehow "putting me in my place" about Lebron.  Got it.

I was a huge hater of LeBron up until last year's finals. He did what he was supposed to to silence the Skip Bayless' of the world. If people are still hating, just let them hate. They are the same type of people that would say Sam Bradford sucks.

I said he's borderline at best, and that's based solely on him having a historically great postseason performance, culminating in a Super Bowl and SB MVP (even though I thought JJ was the most deserving)

Take away that, and he's a classic middle of the road QB. And that classic middle of the road QB has better numbers than Bradford, who is a below average QB

Agree to disagree.. since you cannot prove effort...

I'm in it may motivate some hitters, but not others... I don't think its a rule of thumb IMO...

One more chance to redeem your intelligence card.

What else does Flacco have that Bradford does not other than his post season performances and team wins?

Eh, all you have to do is listen to interviews and what players say. It has been proven time and time again.

Players will ALWAYS say something to the tune of

"Well when a guy like Chris Carpenter is on the mound you make it an assertive effort to not leave anything behind. Carpenter is such a fierce competitor, you owe it to him to give it your all as if it is your last game out there.

Have you ever listened to a post game interview?

Better numbers and the knowledge that he can be counted on for 16 games a year
