GREAT NEWS ... A PICKLES THREAD

February 12, 2013 11:56 am

You forgot Red Zone. And I suppose to Bradford haters that having 17 rushing touchdowns doesn't make things easier on the QB.
Joe Flacco's postseason performance took place despite the fact that his running back was actively trying to cost his team playoff games

And said postseason performance is the only reason anyone considers Flacco elite

And he wants to take into account Ray Rice.... but not the fact that Flacco's postseason performance (which is pretty much the only reason anyone considers him elite) was despite Ray Rice having like 14 fumbles in the postseason

The Ravens RBs had 4 fumbles all year long.

Which number is larger 5 rushing TDs or 17?

I will argue that in the long run, over a season, Good pitchers win, bad pitchers lose!

--

Wins are a decent stat in a macro sense. An 18-game winner is almost always going to be a better pitcher than a 10 or 12-game winner.

But they lose value as a stat for differentiating pitchers of similar quality. That same 18-game winner is not necessarily better than a guy with 16 or 17 wins.

Don Sutton had more wins than Bert Blyleven. Don Sutton was not, on the whole, a better pitcher than Bert Blyleven. Not close, in fact.

A high school librarian who pursued a student for sex by bombarding him with cell phone photos of her bare breasts was arrested after he set up a sting operation with police.  The man, who goes by simply Brock said, in a statement..."she blonde...she's hot...she doesn't get hit on, and since I prefer menapausal women, I did the honest thing...I called the police"

So you are saying you need a Super Bowl caliber team in order to have a QB considered Elite?

This whole concept of TEAM seems to be at the center of success. So weird who would have ever thought having a good offensive line is important??

Joe Flacco is not an elite QB, he will get paid like one......and he has earned that, becuase the ravens refused to pay him before hand.......and he made the ravens a shiiiiiat ton of money, so he has earned it

but he is not an elite QB

There's no rarer commodity in the NFL than a QB who can carry a team to the Super Bowl.

Flacco just did that.

So you are saying you need a Super Bowl caliber team in order to have a QB considered Elite?
No

Drew Brees doesn't have a Super Bowl caliber team. I consider him elite

Saying someone is elite on the grounds of his postseason performance =/= you need to have a great postseason performance to be elite

But I can see how you would get confused by that. I can also see how Brocktagon would could get confused by that. Everybody else here is a little smarter, so I can't see them getting confused by it

In his time in the NFL, he has performed better than any other QB in the post season.

That is not elite?

Cowboy is obviously very upset his favorite football team foolishly threw a boat load of money to its "franchise QB" before he even set foot on a professional football field.  He is no doubt taking his anger out on a QB who just lead his team to a Superbowl, became the MVP and is about to get his pay day.  They exact pay day that Cowboys QB got before he ever proved anything.

This is exactly is going on here, by the way.

___________

Never watched either play except Blyleven at the end of his career.

I think we agree mostly... in a short run or over the course of a half season,  a guy can pitch to bad luck etc.

But, if you are a pitcher that gives up three runs, leaves the game in 6th inning and your bullpen blows it, you are not a quality starter IMO.

Generally speaking, gusy who win are better than guys who lose.

If it was so normal to discount wins for a pitcher, we would have never had this debate about Felix two years ago.

Steve Carlton once one 25% of his teams entire wins for the season!!

I'll say it may have its significane in terms of HOF. Because having a bunch of wins does illustrate sustained sucess.

But really..I don't need W/l to tell me which pitcher was better, When I can just look at ERA and IP...

most wins of any QB in the game since 2008, plus his post season resume

and that team isnt all about defense like they used to be
