Bears terminate Knox's contract

February 12, 2013 10:43 am

According to the Chicago Bears facebook page, Johnny Knox is no longer a Bear.  I'm trying to find a link to confirm this.

I agree, they did the right thing by paying him this last season but I don't think the guy is ever going to play again.

Agreed- yet this is the ***** part of pro sports. Get hurt your team cuts you. I would have like to see what Knox could have done if not injured- His speed was impressive and we could sure use that now as another WR in Trestman's system. And another year of NFL training/ weights/ game situations. He couldn't get off the LOS and was out muscled a lot, but if given a free release he could fly. (and sending him into the middle of the field on slants was just stupid...Martz!)

Would Emery have drafted Jeffery if Knox was healthy? (I would like to thing he would, but you never know.)

Well at least we won't have to wonder what if, Knox's game developed as much as it was going to. But thats as close to piling on as i'll get.

One of the more productive 5th round picks that springs to mind, Knox was the victim of a brutal and pretty freak injury. His career was done as soon as it happened, it was very classy of the Bears to give him that extra year of pay. I wish him well.

Would Emery have drafted Jeffery if Knox was healthy? (I would like to thing he would, but you never know.)
Of course, as receivers go those two couldn't be much more different.

Not only did they pay him this past year but Emery said he will always be a Bear and always be welcome at all team events and games.  Class move.  It seems as though Knox has a slim to none chance of ever playing again.

I think Emery would have drafted him still. I'm almost positive that Jeffery is a big wide out insurance policy in the event that Marshall didn't happen to pan out.

Mongo and I discussed on another thread--

but from what's last been heard of the guy--hes just learning to walk again.  Hope he can come back, get strong and fully recover.  But in this business--no brainer.

Since Knox was PUP'd, he received his full salary last season. That, to me, shows as a very classy thing for the Bears to do.

Even more so considering Knox (prior to the injury) was offered a 4-year extension worth 16 million - that he turned down.

Even though it's being reported that the Bears are terminating his contract, the truth is they paid in full on his rookie 4 year contract.

I wish him well. His agent says he's going to play next year...

What the Bear's did is classy.

Maybe he'll surprise everyone and come back healthy and strong. That would be good.

Good luck to Knox (man, that was THE worst injury I saw on the football field)... on the other hand, we could definitely use a speedy, burner type of WR now (in wake of this and very probable Hester cut), and Bears should probably draft one in 4th round or something like that.

This sucks.  I understand that his injury was gonna make it near impossible to play again from the minute I saw it.  Johnny Knox is a good football player, a unique talent, a good teamate and I hate to see him go.

I sincerly hope he lands somewhere and gets another oportunity to play in the league.  Good Luck # 13.

I wish Knox nothing of the best. I hope he comes back to the NFL and is a pro bowler somewhere. But I think we would all bet against that.

That Knox injury was easily the worst injury Ive ever seen on a live game. I remember thinking he was dead. Like, I was 80% sure he died right after it happened. That was just so disgusting. Poor guy

I'm sorry... but F Johnny Knox. If dumbass doesn't fall down in the Chargers game in 2011, Cutler doesn't throw that pick and get hurt. We win at least 11 games and have a shot at the super bowl.
