Changing Super Bowl Day? WHAT!!

February 12, 2013 6:53 pm

ABC news is just reporting right now that next years Super Bowl might be moved to either a Saturday or Monday since it is a "cold weather" climate" and if its too cold they will switch days!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!?!!!!!

So I guess that means games in Green Bay should be cancelled as well, right?  Since it' "too cold?"

[Super Bowl] Saturday? Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

Super Bowl Wednesday? Um, yeah, not so much.

Both are possibilities for 2014, according to an [article] in Sports Business Journal on the [NFL]'s extensive contingency plan for next year's outdoor championship game at [MetLife Stadium] in East Rutherford, N.J.

"The league is considering various options that include the possibility of delaying the contest several days in the event of a weather emergency on game day," states the article, written by Daniel Kaplan, Terry Lefton and John Ourand. "The league even could decide to play the game on Saturday if faced with an ominous forecast, sources said."

Of course, changing the date of the Super Bowl -- which is set for Sunday, Feb. 2 -- would create many more challenges, so it is a move the NFL will make only if it has to.

But better make sure you have a sick day or two saved up just in case.

Teams prepare for the game to be played on a specific day. All of a sudden there's some snow, and a delay of possible several days?  Some teams will use that as an excuse for losing. Might as well keep playing in the southern part of the country (exept N'awlins, where they have trouble keeping the lights on), where they don't have to worry about snow.

I get the idea of wanting to spread the wealth of having a city host a Super Bowl but I agree with you chevy.. Why not just keep it in a warm climate like Miami?  But to move a date because of weather (potential of weather) is stupid.  I mean it snows in Green Bay and the NFl doesn't say well its a blizzard and minus 10 degrees so let's changed the game

A) THe superbowl should be on a saturday (or the sunday before Presidents Day.......to make it more a holiday

B) they are saying in the event of what we just had for weather, they'll move it.......not if it's 10 degrees and flurries

Let's be honest. The fans of the losing team are going to find plenty of excuses why they lost no matter what. Besides, it's a KNOWN variable that both teams have to prepare.

The standard is the refs cost us and CLEARLY favored the winning team. This is a classic and will be an excuse after every SB.

The new wrinkle this year is that it's GUARANTEED that some fans of the losing team will blame Goodell for putting the SB in a cold weather area. I don't know what will be funnier: a warm weather team losing or a cold weather team losing. Both have their own reasons for high comedy.

Just this bit of info is enough for me to see that the NFL is definately feeling the heat on allowing the Super Bowl to be played in NJ. They are finally realizing it could blow up in their faces and leave Goodell with egg on his face. With all the what ifs surrounding the weather and having to postpone and or move the date is really saying that the NFL realizes that they made a mistake and the future games will be played in domes or warm weather climates.

SBs should be played on Saturday not Sunday to give everyone time to recover before heading back to work on Monday.

The SB should only rotate between San Diego, Miami, New Orleans and Las Vegas (no other city should be allowed due host the SB....lets face it, no one wants to bore themselves to death in Jacksonville, Indy, or hang out in NY during a snowstorm)

Hopefully the NFL has to move the day of the SB at the last minute in NY...it would give the NFL one more reason to drop the whole 'every city deserves to host a SB' garbage.

Whats the big deal?  Saturday sounds awesome.  And if it gets snowed out, and they play it on a Wednesday or the next weekend, I'm pretty sure it'll still bring in record level viewers.  Why - because its the NFL, and is the middle of freakin winter - so what else are you going to do/watch.

Its called planning ahead.............all the best do it.

If 4 feet of snow fell on Green Bay and the visiting team was unable to get to the stadium, that game would probably be postponed as well.

Like in Philly 2 years ago
Or that game in Houston when the stadium broke in a Hurricane

Change tradition so drunks won't have hangovers on Monday? How about stopping at a 12-pack.

It's a conspiracy.  Hotel and other business owners in the area gonna gouge the hell out of fans for an extra day.  My bet that even if it is sunny with highs in the 50's they move it back a day.

I understand those situations but to state they might move a game because it is too cold is insane

I don't agree with the game being played in a cold weather city. I think it's dumb on a few levels but if you're GOING to do it then you can't whine that it's 'to cold'. Play the game as scheduled.
