Larry Fitzgerald in another uniform?

February 21, 2013 10:35 am

I picture him going to Minnesota. Not only is he from there (and I believe he's also from Minneapolis), but his father is a sportswriter who covers the Vikings. If Larry goes to the Packers, Patriots, or Broncos (assuming it's before Tom Brady or Peyton Manning retire), it would make one of those offenses so unstoppable that their front office and coaching staff would break out in diabolical laughter like the archvillian of a superhero.

I'm definitely not a Cardinal fan however... on the Sports Talk shows in Arizona they are contstantly railing about how Fitz is wasted here. However at the same time they also speak specifically to the Cap hit the Cardinals will incutr even if they try to trade him. Larry Fitzgerald will end his career in Arizona...sad as that is.

I want to say he played at Holy Angels in Richfield. Just south of Minneapolis.

His father was a sportswriter and talk show guy here as well.

Makes the most sense to come to Minnesota. We have 5 picks in top 4 rounds. Part with one or two, or even Percy Harvin, I need Fitzy in Purple this year.

Would like to see him in Denver so Manning will have someone to throw to. He's already the best QB to play the game and when you add a top 5 receiver he'll only get better.

The Packers will not pursue Fitz, unless they think they could get him for Jennings money (they can't). Teh Vikings would be a good fit, especially if Harvin is asking for the moon (he is). Fitx is older, but for a couple more years he will still be lethal, and he doesn't get migraines.

I'm gonna leave out Baltimore also because after they sign Flacco won't have any room. I'm not sure how these other teams are with their cap space, but if there is another team you think, let us know. So who's it gonna be?
Yeah, that unfortunately is true so is it for the Pats (see: Brady restructure), Denver (See: Mannings salary, Also see: Demarius Thomas), Green Bay (see:  Future highest paid player Aaron Rodgers).  Also while the Patriots are $25M under the cap with recent moves, they won't be able to sustain Fitz's contract long term.

Those that can are Cincy (have $54M in cap space and they must use at least 80% of theis years $123M cap), Colts ($45M under), ikings ($14M under) and Texans (about $4M under cap).  Of these Cincy and the Colts can afford him and he make both teams immediate deep play-off threats.  I'm not sure he wants to split with Andre Johnson nor do I think he wants the likes of Christian Ponder throwing to him when he's capable of the ridiculous stats that CJ puts up.  So the Texans and Vikes are out because his contract has him at $10.25M for 2012 before ballooning up to $18.25M and averagiung $15M until 2018.

I would've also thrown in teams like the Browns ($45M), Jaguars ($30M under), Dolphins ($37M under), Bucs ($30M under) and Bills ($20M under) and have WR needs.  None are immediate contenders, but the Browns could immediately pressure the Steelers into cellar dwellers and contend with the Bengals and perhaps the Ravens for play-offs spots.  The Dolphins will likewise gain on the Patriots and we'll see if Tannehill was worth the hoopla.  Same for the Bills who are having fits with their own Fitz becuase he lacks targets and is an average passer to boot.  Still, I'd pay a dollar to see a little Fitz on Fitz action.  Ditto again for the Jags and Henne; with Blackmon and Fitz, Henne may throw more a few more 500+ yds games.

Arizona may just end up keeping him and restructure in 2014.  Otherwise they trade him for a 1st and 3rd and save like $73M over the next 5 seasons.  It also cripples their offensive strength greatly.

You totally contridicted yourself concerning the Pats. They freed up money knowing good players would be available. And actually that's a pretty hot rumor here at the moment-Fitz to the Pats. He'd have to restructure but allegedly he's had enough of losing.

If the team isn't putting in the work to put enough talent around you to win, drafting you and paying you isn't enough. Fitzgerald is good enough to be a key piece to one or more Super Bowl runs, and Arizona isn't putting anyone around him. Sticking around is a waste of his talent. There is a difference between using a great talent to rebuild and what the Cardinals are doing.

Fitzgerald signed an eight-year, $128.5 million deal with the Cardinals in August of 2011. He's under contract in Arizona until 2019, when he will be 36 years old.

he's the ONLY draw for the Cards - his contract is crazy and it lasts till 2019
The funny part as big as his contract is, it's not that bad cap wise for the Cards so even if he demands a trade ... the Cards keep him and they don't pay him.

The thread should be what is Fitz's trade value

2 1st rounnd round picks?  AND who would pull that off and is that enough for the Cards to trade their only asset

Would love to see him in Pittsburgh but if he goes anywhere in the next couple years, strong contenders to get him would be Washington or Dallas. Owners not afraid to spend money and both teams should have the cap space.
