Happy to see Erb go. He's been our special teams coach for a decade now and that has always been a huge weakness for the team. Did not like seeing Wilson go, I heard he's always been one of our best recruiters for a while now.

I guess Wilson is from NJ and had worked for Rutgers before, so he is going home so to speak, grew up a few blocks from campus is what I read.  He did win recruiter of the year awards so agree, not a great deal to see him leave, apparently he was asked to coach RB's and declined.  Both Erb and Wilson made around $250K a year

Couldn't care less that either of these two are gone.  We need fresh blood and energetic recruiters.

I agree wholeheartedly, Aaron. Having said that, we really could only find two guys from Virginia and Colorado to replace them? Both were fired and both came from extremely pisspoor teams.

I felt good about the Greg Davis hire and that flopped, so maybe the fact that I'm leery of these two means we'll have All-Americans at their positions.....?

Ferentz never hires young guns (other than his son to make sure he had a job) to come in and bring fresh blood, we will only get old guys who were fired at their last job.

Cambell signed on with a Canadian football league team to coach, Montreal I believe.

Ha! Ha! All the bitching & moaning won't do any of us any good & does one year with Davis here REALLY prove him to be a flop? You may be wrong or you may be right [heard that in a song somewhere]. I'm not saying any good is going to come out of any of this but I am going to just wait & see. For quite some time we had the longest lasting bunch of asst. coaches & this happens everywhere pretty much where these guys look for their shots at moving on up a ladder rather than getting stuck somewhere "forever" like 'you know who' did at PSU. Just a sick example there. Sorry! I'll be gone again for awhile. I just had to chirp in. I've read posts here off & on lately but just kept my thoughts to myself rather than get all "lathered up" like before. Good luck figuring it all out. GO HAWKS! Cool

The longevity of the KF football staff staying together is an interesting story.  When KF had the program humming along...NO ONE wanted ANY of our assistant coaches.  The only person be sought after was KF and the NFL.

Now, the program has fallen on some hard times...and it really looks like KF has been told to fix it - now - so, the program has been making the rounds in search of some coaches.

It's very interesting to see that KF isn't spending time/resources recruiting in one the hot-bed grounds for talent -- Florida.  Maybe with Urban Meyer in the conference...KF threw out his white flag and cried "Uncle".

Time will tell with the gems KF will bring in.  With each passing year...the buy out gets more and more feasible.

And then what...

I only have Davis' one year to assess his performance, I don't have a crystal ball to be able to see 5-10 years down the road. From where I'm standing, thus far it's a flop. Not saying he can't turn the offense around next year, or the year after (assuming he's still around), but based on what I saw this year he was not a good hire for Iowa. Maybe that was due to the roster he was given, but it seems like good coaches can coach around weaknesses. Game 1 JVB was throwing 2 yard out patterns, game 12 he was throwing 2-yd out patterns. I saw zero improvement/coaching throughout the year at all on offense. If anything it got much worse as the year wore on.

Baby steps! LOL! Maybe next year we'll throw it 5-6 yds. per play & hopefully catch it. I'm just teasin' & won't interfere. Thought I'd say "Hello!" to ya all & wish ya the best, including some major improvements to our football program. One can only hope. Speaking of which---I HOPE the ILLini have a very bad night tonight & we 'kill' em at CHA! Go Hawks!Smile

People in Alabama were saying the samething about Nick Sabans offense at Alabama his first season.  I'll give it another year before I throw stones.

But does Saban call all offensive plays as Davis does? Not sure that he does, don't know Alabama well enough. But I seem to remember them getting into a bowl and beating Colorado that year, light years ahead of Iowa this season.

I will give it more time too, just pointing out that based on his one year with Iowa it was not good.
