Balfour Out 4-6 Weeks

Grant Balfour underwent minor right knee surgery on Thursday and will require 4-6 weeks of recovery time.

It doesn't take long for relievers to get geared up physically for the start of the regular season, but Balfour is obviously in danger of not being fully ready. The Athletics will turn to either Ryan Cook or Sean Doolittle for ninth-inning responsibilities if Balfour can't go on Opening Day. It'll be a situation to monitor all spring.


Ryan Cook sucked as a closer last year. Ideally, I would like Beane to bring in Brian Wilson, but I doubt Beane will do it, or ownership would give Beane the money to do so. Certainly changes roster predictions for opening day though.

I would be stoked if we brought in Brian Wilson. HHow much do you think it would take to sign Wilson BP? I really thinkg we could get him for a decent price but i could be wrong.

Not too sure. Few million with incentives is my best guess. The fact that he hasn't signed yet probably means that he's either asking for too much or wants a guaranteed closers job. However, his value will continue to decline each day imo. Signing Wilson would not only fill a void, but make Giants fans very angry at the same time. It's a win-win scenario in my book. Like I said though, ownership is probably too cheap.

Yeah... for your sake.  I am still shaking my head that the Red Sox pulled the trigger on Bailey knowing he was hurt.

*But this injury reminds me of Bailey and look how he turned out.
