Why not take a shot at him? They could use his leadership in the locker room and he can still play. With the amount of junk the Lions have been throwing out there the last couple years it can't get any worse. Besides it would be great to have a Michigan Man like Woodson back in the state that made him famous!

He's on the market, the Packers let him go today. I'd bring him in for 2 or 3 years if he was willing to come to Detroit. Not sure he would want to come, me thinks he's going to be a glory hunter.

Hasn't Woodson better hurt the last two years? Not sure he has much left in the tank.

Didn't know Woodson missed any games in 2011 other than week 17 against the Lions when Matt Flynn had a field day. I don't know what the problem would be if Woodson wanted to come to Detroit... Mayhew likes players with a history of injuries, Schwartz was harping on the lack of leadership due to injuries and the fans want a real CB. And in the BONUS ROUND the newbies would have someone REAL to learn what it really takes to make it to the top.

I think if the $$ is right he'd be a great addition. I think he's still got enough game left to be an effective nickle guy for another season or two, but more importantly would be the leadership he would bring to the table.

Just like KVB a couple years ago, Woodson is a true pro, and he's exactly the type of leader we could use.

However, he says he wants to go to a contender, so we'd certainly appear to be at a disadvantage when it comes to signing him...

I've read that, one of the teams mentioned were the Chiefs along with Broncos, Patriots and 49ers. The Organization mindset is too good for HoF Caliber Players. I doubt very much that we'll see Woodson in another NFC North uni.

He really needs to be a safety to play in our scheme.  I dont think he can cover the slot WRs anymore so unless we change our nickel defense a bit where he would be more of a roamer, he probably would not fit there.

I would like the Lions to sign him, but only to see if the refs will still allow him to tackle the reciever before the ball has left the qb's hand.

I don't think cash is going to be an issue with Woodson. I think it will be about the team he wants to play for. Washington, New England, Denver all would want him and could do so at a very reasonable rate.

The guy has been the gold standard for DB for so many years and getting his experience to a team on the cusp would be huge.

I would love to see him finish his career in Detroit I just don't see it happening.

I would love to see Woodson in a Lions uniform next year playing safety -- it would give us a playmaker we are sorely lacking.  Unfortunately for the Lions -- I don't think there is a chance he comes to Detroit.  He only has a couple years left and will want to go to a team with a chance to win the super bowl during that time.

Jayfan nailed it. All of you are talking like Woodson would want to come here. He is at the end of a great career and is looking to play for a winner. I know ppl will think this post is a whiny negative post since heaven forbid anyone be upset about 4-12 last year...it's not, just realistic.

If he is dead set on playing only for a contender, the Lions are out of it. But as I always say. You dont know for sure if you dont at least try.

The Lions should talk to him. The worst that can happen is he says "No". But what if the idea of playing for Detroit, after playing in Michigan in college might appeal to him? Could he go to another team where the fans would glorify him more? Sure other teams fans would love to have him maybe, but in Detroit, not only would he be going to a team that the fans already love him from his days in Michigan, but here, we all know how bad we need secondary and having him would make us appreciate him even more because of that.

Likely he would say no. He will either want to go where there is a chance for another Superbowl, or where a team is willing to give him big money to finish his career. The Lions cant do either of those. But there is always the chance he would like to end his career where he would be loved more than anywhere else. Unless the Lions at least try talking to him. They will never know for sure.
