It seems no once is going after this guy. I know his post season was horrible, but he still was pretty darn good at time before that. I wonder how cheap his price tag has become. If its low, I think the Cubs should look into him. If we can sign him for cheap, you can try to package Marmol to some team. Could be a win win for the Cubs. Maybe I am missing something on why no teams are really showing interest.

There is rumor that the Angles may look into Marmol with Madson out on the DL at the start of the season.

I would look at pitching depth as:

Garza, Shark, Jackson.  All are set.

Dale went out and said that Baker is starting on the DL and Feldman is in the rotation.

Then he said that Carlos Villanueva would most likely be in the pen.

So Wood in the rotation unless he blows up.

Now players out of options:

Wood, Dolis, Bowden

Rule V: Hector Rondon (having Visa issues ATM)

So looking at the pen saying they go 7 deep; which is the norm:

Closer: Marmol
8th inning: Fujikawa
7th: Russell and Camp

Middle relief and team behind guys:

Villanueva (spot starter)

Rule V guy wasting a spot:  Hector Rondon

2 guys fighting to not go on the waver wire:

Dolis and Bowden.

I don't see it to be honest.

If they trade Marmol I believe it will be for a prospect and they will let Kyuji close but this is more realistic later season.

Pitching is really not the issue with this team.  I believe it will accually be pretty damn good to be honest with depth for injury to boot.

What could we possibly see the Cubs get in return?  They had Dan Haren--but they balked at him....I'd be curious, but pretty doubtful.  Marmol may piss alot of us off, he may give many heart problems, and he leaves plenty of us shaking heads......but the dude isnt worthless.

Blowden better not make the bullpen......and nto every Rule 5 guy makes the team they get picked from.....I wont be surprised if Rendon isnt ready period and gets returned to irrelevant team he came from.

I dont see any reason as to why not look into this guy Valverde.  Dude picks on a weak NL Central division he can easily be prime trade bait for Theo and Jed to jettison away for lottery tickets.  In the meantime those of us not fooling ourselves will get to watch an above average closer for a couple months.  Win win for everybody.

Few things on that. You better check your numbers on Bowden. After he got recalled he was one of the best in the pen. To be honest I would expect Dolis to be in trouble. He was not their pick and he failed. He did not prove that he had a second pitch to go along with his fastball that became very hittable because he couldn't locate it and had no change or split to deceive. Now when Baker gets back then things get log jammed and they are going to have to make some tough choices. Marmol is worth a 8-12 ranked prospect on a team. He is young enough to be retained and is now using his fastball to set up his slider which works as a strike out pitch. I like the Japaneese player better due to his command and he uses his spitter situational. He can use it to strike out or he can use is as a sinker down and away to induce 2x plays to 2B. I'd rather go foward with him vs Marmol.

It would have been a much better choice to have received Haren in the deal for "Curious George", and signed Matt Lindstrom for the pen to be our closer. He would be a much better option, on paper, than some Japanese 10 million dollar crap shot. Not to mention more cost effective.

Blowden can fall off the baseball world's, face of the Earth, and no one could tell the difference.

The money to gain Valverde could have come from the "cost savings" of signing Lindstrom and NOT signing Feldman and some Japanese dynamo and some other injured asian I choose to forget.

But garbage, the injured, and international "dynamos" will surely peak our interest this coming season, rather than a contending team.

I hope that the Japanaese dynamo works out. But I seriously doubt he was worth the money spent on him.

Unfortunately, Marmol's wildness can be attributed to the fact that he's a retard.
