That said, I am in favor of an occaisional court-storming. It should be reserved for momentous accomplishments, and not devalued as it seems to have been this season. Simply winning a game against a top-ranked, in-conference rival should not be enough.
As I stated previously:

Early Jan - NC State def #1 Duke...State has been irrelevant for so long - pretty understandable.
Late Jan - Miami def #1 Duke...when was the last time Miami had beaten Duke - totally understandable.
Mid Feb - Maryland def #2 Duke...last game as ACC opponents...storming a no brainer.
Last night - UVA def # 3 Duke...not sure if this one is really justified...two of the top 4 teams in the ACC...but UVA rarely beats Duke and I'm sure the fans were sick of K's whining so they thought they'd do it with the hopes of pissing him off more...and it worked.

I agree that court-storming has it's place...momentous accomplishments as you put it...unfortunately for duke, the first 3 equate to just that.  NC State hadn't won a big game in years...same goes for Miami, and at the time Miami was not ranked (or had just cracked the top 25)...and Maryland leaving the ACC is the reason for that one.

After thinking about the Virginia storming I thought it was not 100% warranted...tied for 3rd in the ACC with almost 20 wins...so that probably wasn't really that momentous.

But when teams see Duke on the other jersey they know about the reputation of the program and for most teams in the conference (excluding UNC) to them it's huge because it doesn't happen that often.  Most years duke wins 12 to 14 conference games and rarely lose at home (so no court-storm to worry about there) and if they lose at Carolina there is no storming there either because the Heel fans expect to beat duke.

Fact of the matter is duke has lost 4 games on the road this season, which is more than usual for them, and that's why the storming became an issue with K.

But I agree that "simply winning a game against a top-ranked, in-conference rival should not be enough."  The good news for duke is they have Va Tech at home this week, so when they lose that there will be no court-storming...unless it's a couple hundred 'crazies' who lose their minds Laughing...and then their last road game is at Chapel Hill where the court is never stormed.

Pretty sure they are squarely on the bubble, that win was huge for them.

I saw the piece about Coach K crying over court storming on ESPN... i understand it would get old for duke but get over it. It is one of the staples of college basketball, and it comes with the territory.

Actually, we stormed the court the last time Duke finished up in Chapel Hill back in '11.

It's a time lapse of the game. You can go towards the end of the video & see them rush the court.
