I liked DJ Moore's fire on the field.  Too bad he got released.

Sherrick McManis is most likely his replacement......shame though.  But its part of the business end.  Bittersweet.....

I am however, like all of you waiting for 87 to be euthanized--errr.....relieved of his duties

Moore was not released by Chicago.  He was already a FA and the Bears have told him he isn't in their future plans.  Not a big loss since he had already lost his spot in the Nickel last season.

Not trying to nitpick, just saying he wasn't released.  I would assume you want this thread to accurately reflect the changes the Bears are making this offseason so the distinction matters.

I don't really feel the distinction is all that important, the end result is the same, regardless of the mthod that was obtained to reach the conclussion. Tomato tomatoe  and all that good happy horse shit**** Wink

Shame. Kelvin Hayden couldn't even hold a candle to DJ Moore in the nickel last season. That was a HUGE dropoff without him in there. Makes me nervous, on injury to Jennings and Peanut and we are in  big trouble.

I like Moore as well... for sure would take him over Hayden to be our number 3.

Aside from having some plays where he was in the right place at the right time to make an INT on a tipped pass, DJ Moore hasn't done much.

He was decent when blitzing from the nickel position but mostly bad in coverage.

Not a huge loss.

DJ Moore was definitely nothing special.  Just another one of JA's Vandy picks, I guess another JA draft pick bites the dust.  Hopefully two more will be departing soon and in case you didn't know who I am referring to, J'Mucous Webb and Kellen Davis.

I don't think D.J. was fit for the nickle, in spite of the coaches trying to coach him up. He's an outside corner who was supposed to match up on 6'0 wideouts who were number 1s. He may get another opportunity at some point.

Kelvin Hayden tells reporters he plans to test the market.  Another goner.......

Not that it matters, he was terrible.

DJ Moore is a quality nickel corner, I thought he was better suited for the role than Hayden was. Sure he had some lapses in coverage ( so did Hayden ), but he also made some plays and was a good blitzer. Ten picks in three years isn't too bad... Hayden was better suited as a back up for Tillman and Jennings.

That said, I think the reason the Bears are letting him walk is because of his mouth. A role player calling out the starting QB in the media is a good way to get in the doghouse and sent out of town. He seems to have a fun personality, but talks a little too much. I remember that preseason story where he borrowed some fans TV for training camp and hooked him up with some signed cleats. Sad to see him go, but he can be replaced.

I agree with pat. At this point, look for a combination of McManis and Hardin at nickel, depending on the match up.

Bowman may draw some interest for his special teams skills on the free agent market as well.

Mentioned this on another thread, look for Hardin and Frey to contribute in the secondary and on special teams next season. Also look for the Bears to sign a cheap CB and draft a CB in the mid to late rounds.

Idonije hasn't been talked about much, with all the talk about Melton and Urlacher. The Bears have expressed interest in bringing him back...

Bears GM Phil Emery expressed interest at the Combine in re-signing free agent DL Israel Idonije.

"He's done a number of good things and had a number of good games both outside and inside," Emery said. "He's a guy we will sit down with and talk to about coming back. He's got versatility and that's a positive thing for Izzy." Feb 22 - 1:01 PM

Hopefully, the Bears can bring him back. He is still a valuable asset in the rotation with his ability to play both DT and DE. Might be getting a little old to be an everydown player though.

With the cap issues we're facing and only having about 3 mil in space right now, I am not sure we're gonna be able to bring him back unless it's for 1 mil. Even if we signed Melton long term, it's likely gonna be for a minimum of 5 mil a year, which means we're not gonna have much in the way of cap space unless we cut dead weight.... restructure is not a good way to go, with the way that proration works and tacks on to the cost of the next season.

Per an Instagram message, Devin thinks he's coming back to Bears. Not sure if the new coaching staff sees it the the same way... Loved most everything about his time with Bears, but 6 years of trying to be a WR are enough for me.

Id love to have Hester back. Lets lower his cap hit though and salary and give him incentives though. Hes not even paid that much right now, but hes still very overpaid.

As for Izzy. Itd be nice to have him back. We'll see how much interest he draws on the market. We dont NEED him back, with Wootten stepping up and SheaMac our first round pick a year ago, we can let him slide if we must.

I keep seeing and hearing this. We don't have cap issues to my knowlege. Dallas? Carolina? New orleans? Redskins? They have cap issues... Depending on the reports or site you read, we are somewhere between 5 and 12 million under the cap still.

For instance, if this report is accurate (not claiming it for sure is) as of Monday (after tagging Melton on Friday), we still are 12 million UNDER the cap.

LINK

And that's BEFORE we cut dead weight (Webb, Davis, Eldrige, Unga, Speath, etc...) that could get us 10 more - and resturcture a few guys that could net us at least 3 o 4 more.

For instance, I would right now be trying to restructure Marshall down to 7.3 million a year over the next 3 years instead of the 9 he'll make for each of the next 2 years.

if I was GM, I'd also be dumping Garza and Bush.

Emery will have the room to make moves if they're out there to make. He just has to be.... well... a good GM.

With that said, thank god we don't owe Mario Williams 16 million this year and 20 next.

Naw. Just thank Hester for all of the excitement that he gave us and just move on. Among other things the NFL has pretty much taken the kick return out of football and directional punting has also taken most of the punt returns out of football also. Hester cannot catch the ball as a receiver so to me he is pretty much a waste of money to sign him.
