Since Obama has been in office my health insurance costs have went up in cost and down in benefits yearly...Before Obama was in office my insurance coverage had not changed in quite awhile. I paid far less out of pocket and had a deductable of 2,000 per person with a max oop of $4,000.

Bullcaca.  You do not recognize that on each issue, there is racism.  Racism is still alive and unwell in our society.  Maybe there is more subtlety but it is not gone.  Continuing to bring it up even in the smallest case hopefully will make the public more aware.  While you think that it is not a big deal, you help the real racists see how much they can get away with.

I find myself  agreeing with most of what bsting says   He does talk about race an awful lot, but maybe that's because race is a bigger issue for him than for you or any white person

As I said before, we come from different backgrounds and that probably accounts for bsting or me having a different perspective than you on what is and isn't racism, and what is a bs issue and a real issue

as for the vote suppression issue    Clearly blacks were targeted in an effort to keep their numbers down at the polls

I agree it was probably due more to the fact that these folks vote dem as oppose to just being black   If blacks voted Republican (like that's gonna happen LOL) they probably would have been left alone

But the bottom line is that it was black people who were targeted for voter suppresion, and whether or not the motive was racism or simple voting demographics, it doesn't change the fact that black people had a harder time voting in some areas than white people

with the history of voting suppression when I was young, of literacy tests and poll taxes, the same held true

I think it was more clear cut then than now

but cut us poor ole colored people a little slack if we come off as a little sensitive on the issue of voter suppression

That is a pretty dramatic change.  You could argue Obama is not responsible for the changes in cost and coverage, but we both know he is. I have a family to take care of and Obama's policies have done nothing but cause me to struggle. That is just one of the changes he has made which have hurt my wallet.


mountaineer-I'm not going to doubt your numbers, but I'm going to use my company to counter whomever you work for.  I live in a community of roughly 30000.  My company employs 250 people.  Since before I started working for them they have been self-insured.  Decades ago they put one million into an account and have been able to supply us with pretty decent insurance on the interest alone.  I've been with this company now for 25 years.  My co-pay for a Dr. visit back then was $15.00.  Now it's $25.00.  Emergancy room visits was zero co-pay now it's up to $100.00.  Hospitalization (for whatever reason) deductable was $250.00, now it's $500.00  BUT my company also offers a supplemental insurance plan though the federal government.  I don't know the exact name but for us it's called flex insurance.  You choose the amount to be taken out of your paychecks BEFORE taxes.  I take out the max of $2500 per year--I'm old.  If I go to the Dr. the flex covers my co-pay--a refund if you will back to me.  I take 4 medications per month--my co-pay is $65.00 per month--the flex pays that back to me. 

Two years ago, before taking off on a flight to visit family, I fainted on the airplane before takeoff.  The ambulance ride and the overnight stay and having taken every test they could think of the only thing wrong with me was that I was a registered Republican.  That whole issue was a bill close to twenty thousand dollars.  My out of pocket expense?  Under $400.00

Don't know who you work for mountaineer, but you my friend are getting screwed with your health insurance and it has nothing to do with Obama.

Nathan--I have to agree with secfan here.  Waht tipped the scale for me was when Obama was addressing Congressand soem GOP idiot yelled out "you lie".  Tothis day there are those nationally as well as on this thread that contend the outburst wasn't racially motivated.  And yet that had NEVER been done to any other president. 

I'm not a "screaming liberal"--I have some very conservative views that might even surprise secfan or bb, but I will tell you that in my heart of hearts I believe what that jackass said was racially motivated.  There is alot of covert racism yet in this country BUT there is also STILL alot of overt racism not only in the populace of this country but in Congress as well.

As a poster I too respect most of what you say yet I have to side with bsting as well as secfan on this issue.

That's the importance of raising the marginal rates on the upper income earners--Warren Buffet says it'll raise the morale of the lower and middle class knowing that the taxes are going up on the high income earners.   Let's say nothing about cutting spending--the Dems don't stand for it--never have, never will.   If the Republicans cave in (again) to the big government spenders, it'll be no change.

A supermajority was needed to pass out of committee which meant 14 / 18...

Final vote tally was 11 / 18...four dems and THREE repubs voted against it! Including Ryan...even had he voted for it...even a teacher / tutor like you sec can figure out...it would not have been enough!

BTW, opposition was simply this...the whole body of congress is to make revenue legislation...not just a committee.
