Cowher vs Tomlin - A 6 Year Study

Ahhh, yes, I remember Donnie Shell, quite well actually. He started out on special teams and eventually took strong safety I remember when he knocked Earl Campbell out of a game in Houston. I don't think I'll ever forget that....I also think he should be in the HOF. But we wouldn't want the whole Steelers defense from that era in the HOF, right? L.C. Greenwood should also be in the Hall! He's getting the shaft also because too many Steelers are in from that team. If you deserve to be in, you should be in! No if's, and's or but's!

Some would say it contributed to them winning it in '74.

I'm pretty sure Miami was the favorite that year. But the Raiders beat em. Then came the Immaculate Reception and the huge rivalry with the Raiders ever year. People always said that was the REAL Super Bowl. And from 40 years ago to this day, I still hate the Raiders! And probably always will.Wink

The Immaculate Reception occured in late 1972 in Pittsburgh.  In 1974, the Steelers traveled to Oakland and dominated the Raiders - winning their first AFC title and then there first Super Bowl (or championship of any kind).

Interesting note: Prior to the 1975 season, the home teams in the playoffs were decided based on a yearly rotation.  Since 1975, they are based upon a ranking from the regular season.
