Calling all Lakers haters...

They might make the playoffs, but honestly I think they have buried themselves into such a deep hole that a 5th seed is the best they are going to get.  This season is pretty much gone if they can't turn it around fast. The only good thing tonight was Earl Clark's surprise production tonight. If that boy could do that on a regular basis, the Lakers might have discovered a star replacement that would make Gasol Expendable

I'm looking at an 8th seed really...but look at it like this...in order for the Lakers to into the playoffs they need a big run...which means the team would be playing good ball which means nobody is safe....

Sorry, everybody is safe.  It would take a pretty good run just to get the 8th seed. They just aren't that good. Weren't Laker fans making fun of Celtics fans because they didn't think they were title contenders? Making the playoffs isn't enough when your window is closing. I actually think the Celtics will contend this year. Sorry don't make avitar bets, too old.

To finish at .575, a number that should safely make the playoffs and which currently would squeeze them into the 7th seed, they need to play the rest of the season at an almost 70% winning clip (.684).   Can they win 7 out of 10 the rest of the way?

No they cannot.

Sad thing for LAL is that they're only now getting into the tough part of the schedule. These next 2 months will kill the Lakers and the're off to an awesome start in January by losing their first 5 games of the year lol.

They will need to win slightly more than that considering they are about to get beat by Oklahoma City.

I don't think the Lakers are done losing yet the winning percentate will have to be much higher in a couple weeks.  I just don't see it.

TLF,
If you do the math and conside the Lakers would need to get to ~.650 winning percentage to slip into the 5th spot it comes out to winnign at better than an 80% rate the rest of the season.  Better set the sights a little lower.

If the Lakers make the playoffs it more than likely will be as the 7 or 8 seed.

Right now I think these would be the top 6 seeds

LAC
OKC
SAS
MEM
DEN
GSW

The bottom of the west is not nearly as good as it has been in the past so LAL gets lucky this year and should make the playoffs along with Houston for the final 2 seeds in the Western Conference.

Unlike previous seasons when it took 48-50 wins just to get into the western playoffs, I think this year it will take just 45 or 46 wins to make it because I don't believe teams like Portland, Utah, and Minn (without Love) is good enough to keep LAL out of the playoffs.

I think Lakers make the playoffs as the 7th seed which is going to set up the most hyped up first round matchup in a long time as they'll be facing OKC or LAC.

Sadly I am still not so confident about Golden State.  A lot of their wins thus far have been against the Eastern Conference so they could slip once they start playing more games against the West.

I agree but does it really matter if they get 6,7, or 8? They're still playing OKC, LAC, or SAS in that situation? If they want to have a legit chance to make it round 1 they need that 5th seed where they would be matched up with probably Denver or Memphis. A much more winnable series than one of the big 3 out West.

Memphis owns Golden State.  Denver I would take.  I would also take a matchup vs. the Clippers over Memphis even though the Clippers blasted them the last time out.  A healthy Bogut though and then I am thinking Memphis is a good matchup but that is just speculation since I have never seen Grizzlies vs. Warriors with a healthy Andrew Bogut.

My comment was about the Lakers, not the Warriors.

As for the Warriors, Memphis does seems to give them trouble. When you lose 2 home games to a team, I don't think you want to see that team in a series either so I agree on Memphis. BTW any updates on Bogut?

I think they will give the Clippers a hard fought series.

Not sure about OKC/SAS because I haven't seen the Warriors play either team yet.

It's all pretty unknown.  He was out on the court shooting around before the last game but was not involved in any contact drills.  If they make the playoffs (which looks likely) and he is back at 80% or above by the time the playoffs roll around they may be able to pull off a first round upset.

They lost to OKC once this year.  Relatively close game but OKC gives them trouble just like they give everyone else trouble.  This year's version of the Warriors has yet to play the Spurs so it remains to be seen how they will match up.  In years past the Spurs have definitely owned them.

OK twocoach, and punchline - point blank: do the Lakers make the playoffs or not?  Put up or shut up, that's wlk's bet - take him up on it...dare 'ya!

Sorry to break it to you Jefe but I don't think OKC,LAC, or SAS will be scared to take on a 45-47 win Lakers team in the first round
