Whats wrong with Capitals?

January 24, 2013 10:15 pm
Three coaches in a year, with totally different styles of play. The Caps had a good playoff showing last season, eliminating the defending champs and going toe to toe against a tough Rangers team. But they played a completely different style than they were used to. I only watched a few minutes of their game tonight during the Flyers intermission, but they definitely did not look like the same team from what I saw.

Too much talent to write them off and it is early in the season. But I think it's gonna be tough coming into a shortened season with a new coaching philosphy. We'll see what happens.

They have the youngest goalie tandem in the league in Holtby and Neuvirth which doesn't help. They really need to bring in a veteran goalie.

Once Ribeiro and his linemates start clicking I'm sure they'll be fine but the goaltending will probably continue to be shaky.

Gotta give Adam Oates time as new bench boss.

Oates had one week to install his system and get the right line combination, very little or no practice on off days, but last night when you had Matt Hendricks on the 2nd line the Caps were in trouble.

chc14, you may right,. with limited practice time together, it may take a few weeks before they buy into his system.. Problem is a few weeks may mean you miss the playoffs this yr... Just unleash Ovie and let him go nuts with shots and goals..this yrs gonna be tough no matter what... Can Ovie still score like he used to??

DiNiro, IMo his 40 to 50 goals season are behind him. He doesn't have a sniper on the other side where the D-men have to play him honestly. They all tilt to his side.

Maybe Ovie is thinking more of Maria Kirileno than hockey.

Might be time to start thinking about trading Ovechkin. His game has become so predictable hes practically useless. Trade him while the Caps can get decent value.

Mike Green needs to be benched. should have traded him 3 years ago when i said so. every game since that time is just proving me right. last night, when Green iced that puck with 40 +/- secs left in the 3rd instead of skating it in, you could see the RAGE on Oates face. the Leafs feed should him losing his sjit and i'm tellin ya, it was directed at Green. you are a fancy lad offensive defensemen. either step up and fancy lad or get benched. contribute something other than not being able to clear the net.

Semin...  should have traded him 3 years ago when i said so. lost out on a player/pick. why? cause 8 didn't want to lose his buddy? bitches please.

Dale Hunter... should have offered him 20 billion and a gaggle of whores to stay. that doesn't mean Oates is a bad choice... i am just saying that Hunter got thru to the ego trippers.

the PK. it sucks.

Ovechkin... well, what can ya say. he has to have a two way center playing with him and a grinder that will actually go into corners and win battles. that is why 90 got bumbed from the top line. they had 19, 90 and 8 on the top line. GREAT! if you are playing pond hockey against team Latvia. nobody to go into a corner.

Shultz/#55 should be working at a circus wearing clown shoes, not skates. why keep giving this MF****'er a jersey?

other than that, just slow to come around.

still early, but with a short season - it ain't looking good to grab a spot for the 2nd season. division has caught up, if not passed the caps.

just the toof, yo.

Ray is right... Plus you called out Erskine needs a jersey 3 years ago as well. Guess who has a jersey now and is the Caps best all around D-man. Not that it is good but Kurt Angle. I do not think they need to blow the team up but I would trade Green. I think you could still get something for him and I'm not sure you would miss him from the lineup. Bruce B is still in Anaheim right? Trade him for Bobby Ryan. Everyone has their pannies in a wad from Ovechkin... "What's wrong with him mmmmeeehhhh" If you notice the last time Ovechkin had a solid season was when Mike Knuble was playing RW and scored 20-25 goals that year. 8 has never had a decent RW on the other side. Defense doesn't have to respect it. Trade Mike Green for the best true RW you can get. You really do not have a top line to speak of in Washington.

Green has no trade value anymore.  Sister wasn't the only person screaming to trade him 3 years ago.  Seriously, none.  No one would pay him 1/4 of his salary to get run over nightly and give up odd-man rushes.

The Caps finally fixed their defense to the point where it is average, with a good top 1-2 pairing, and 5 decent guys splitting the other 4 spots.  Now they have a weakness at forward, with no big guy anywhere to be seen.  They had Steckel, Arnott, Knuble, and they keep passing on these guys because GMGM allows no time for chemistry to develop.  Getting Ribeiro and Wolski will just make things worse- smaller, finesse-type players that ultimately won't score enough, and won't draw enough penalty calls in the more-aggressive East.

Oates looks clueless with this scheme.  These are not the NJ Devils and he can't hope that Washington's forwards are any near as responsible in their own zone.
