As bad as Triche played...Boeheim's coaching was just as bad. Lots of times the zone is effective...but there are games...regular season and in the tournament where the Cuse is getting buried by the 3's...and Boeheim puts his team at a disadvantage and the opposing team with an advantage by leaving no option of getting out of the zone and man up. ZERO REASON....ZERO REASON why the Cuse cannot go to man to man when the game calls for it...and this game did.
Why was not Carter-Williams posting his man on the block in the ENTIRE first half...dude has like 6 or 7 inches on his defender...they posted him 1 time on first possesion of 2nd half..shot was blocked from backside help...and the postups ended there. Tired of trying to figure out why a player is good enough to finish the game...but not good enough to start the game? Tired of wondering why a player is good enough to start a game...but not finish the game...makes no sense and the confusion will continue when Coleman comes back. Cooney is seen at practice hitting 45 of 50 threes....dude can't throw it in the ocean in a game. I know Rakeem's offensive game is limited but I still would like to see more post ups from him and his size and length to get off some easy shots around the basket. Horrible horrible loss...I knew the Cuse was not winning this in the first 5 minutes. Horrible play and horrible coaching. |

lol.....you two are a hoot. My guess is neither of you played basketball.....ever. If you did, did you win games you shouldn't have? Did you lose games you shouldn't have? it is how the game goes. I just looked at D1 score card. No team is undefeated this year. Go figure.
Good thing you only require me to read your stuff the three times the cuse loses this year. Try reporting on a win if you want to be taken seriously.....because I can't take your garbage for anything more than garbage. Luv Ya...you two are so cute. |

jonvi, I played basketball, in fact, I won a state title playing for the Schuylerville Horses. So, that closes the door on that comment. I am only saying that our 'Cuse need to have their seniors step up. I have waited to create this thread due to the fact I was giving Brandon the benefit of the doubt, but he hasn't done anything in three games. If you think the 'Cuse have a shot at a sweet 16 bid playing the way they are playing on the road of late, you're crazy and remember, you don't have any home games come March. |

I won a state title..... In basketball? You all by yourself. You are a stud. I bet the other players on YOUR team thought you were the juice. So that closes the door on that comment. The State Champ has spoken. I have watied to create this thread due to the fact I was giving Brandon the benefit of the doubt; And the wins didn't fit your story. But Brandon appreciates the benefit you've bestowed. you don't have any home games come March. So....Cuse is the only team to lose to Pitt, Nova and UConn in their house. btw....no one will be playing at home in March. S16....how many teams are in D1? And you cry about a S16. I've said it before and will say it again....this team could bomb in the first or second round or they can be in the final four. It's how this team is. It's how every team is playing. |

He hasn't done anything in 3 games???
So last game against St. Johns - 16 pts 5-10 fg, 7 assists to 3 turnovers with 5 rebounds. You certainly have high standards if that is doing nothing. Brandon needs to find his shooting stroke again, I will say that but he has been a key ball handler and an excellent defender pretty consistently throughout the season and numerous times has carried this team to victory with his scoring. Assists, rebounds, and scoring are all career highs for him. When Brandon is having trouble scoring others need to step up, that didn't happen last night. Not sure why CJ was taken to the bench early and not as involved last night but it certainly could have helped if he stepped up. Senior leaders. James is the other senior and he had another nice game last night just like his first one back. This team is not deep but they can certainly make a run through the tournament, they must play defense though, UConn beat us because they didn't let themselves get trapped, they are guard oriented and jump shot oriented, they moved the ball and made jumpers. Doubtful that Syracuse will face another team with 2 NBA caliber point guards or 2 guards that are in the top 10 scoring in their league if another even exists. This syracuse team is talented enough defensively to win games when they don't make shots (see Cincinnati & Notre Dame). Just don't turn the ball over and play defense, last night UConn's guards beat us but it is doubtful we face guards that talented anywhere before the sweet 16 so at this point I am doubtful that this group loses before that round. At that point they will not be able to put up a poor performance but they have proven they can beat top teams so I am not certain that they will fall on their face in the sweet 16 and I don't see any reason why anyone would be. |

All I am saying is Brandon needs to contribute more than he has been 'cause we certianly aren't getting any production from Cooney, Keita or even Christmas offensively at the moment. If he doesn't, we don't stand a chance against anyone, period!

This team wins with defense as I stated we have beaten good teams with terrible offensive performances from basically the entire team. We have lost a few close games and have not been embarassed by anyone unlike most of the other teams that have taken their share of nationally televised beatdowns by unranked and terrible teams. At least the teams Cuse has lost too have been solid teams and the games were all close. This team will get by on defense, not on offense so pay more attention to how they play defense and that will give you a better idea of whether or not they will continue to have success in the future. Last night the defense was not good but part of that is because of how UConn played and like I said you won't see a pair of guards that caliber again this year.

I agree that this team will only go as far as the defense will carry them. I also agree that Napier and Boatright are a talented duo. However, it appeared last night that the team as a whole lacked their usual intensity. They were constantly beaten off the dribble and on offense settled rather than working for a good shot. How many shots were taken with 25-30 seconds left on the shot clock? Most teams have games like this at some point during the season. Hopefully they will learn and grow from this experience.

Bad game for Triche. I think CJ should get a touch every time down the court. He doesn't. Less shooting MCW...please...distribute the ball. Triche and MCW need to let the best shooter on the team dictate the pace. CJ oriented offense, at least on the road.

Completely agree Khep. And in that UConn game I was really excited because for the first time CJ posted up and of course he scored easily. How about High-Low with Christmas passing to the post from the top of the key so CJ doesn't have to worry about the opposing center helping on him. Remember Christmas regularly passed to Fab in the post last year and made some great passes to cutters as well, I don't see why his skills are not utilized at all in the offense.

First of all, UConn is a great team and this was one of their "tournament" games. They don't have a postseason and will play their asses off the rest of the way. I will be surprised if they lose another game. UConn dictated the tempo of that game, slowed it down and knocked down some big shots and that is why they won. If Cuse can learn anything from this game, it is that come tourney time, they have to be patient in the half court offense and make the other team play defense. |

Hey Bosco, do me a favor, learn how to spell the subject of this thread's name correctly. It's Triche not Trische dumbazz! And UConn isn't a great team. Last time I looked, they just lost to Villinova last night on their home floor! That was a horrible loss for us, period!

TEB - you said Brandon hasn't done anything in 3 games, now he has led the team to victory in 2 of the last 3 games.
Anyway, no one player is going to carry this team, it will take all 4 of the main pieces doing their part because it continues to look like there will be almost no offensive contribution from the center position or the backups. Maybe Grant (I know he is a "starter") will provide some good moments but its not enough to rely on really and he isn't going to get the big minutes. Its pretty much up to getting consistent contributions from Triche, MCW, Fair, and Southerland and solid defense for 40 minutes for this team to make a deep run. I think they can play defense better than anyone in the country, if they do that and stay smart and patient on offense then they won't need any one player to carry the team, they will be good enough as a whole to get to the final four. |

I totally agree with your assessment irocnek that for this team to go very far at least 3 of the big 4 need to have good to great games and the defense must continue to be solid. The need for patience on offense is another great point. While Southerland is a great shooter, we don't need him taking shots from behind the NBA three point line with 30 seconds left on the shot clock like he did against UConn. We will learn a lot about this team with the two G-Town games as well as at Marquette and home against Louisville. Wednesday night's game against Providence is a classic trap game with G-Town coming to the dome on Saturday. However, at this point in the season I must admit that I am a little disappointed with the team. Several things that I felt needed to happen for this team to be truly great have not occurred. I was really hoping that Cooney would be a knock down three point shooter. While he has a sweet stroke and will be a quality D1 shooting guard, he has not produced enough in game situations. It may take until next year for him to be comfortable enough to shoot a high percentage. Second, I thought the center position would be less of a problem than it is. Early in the season I thought that Coleman would be a force. He had noticably lost weight from his high school days and looked at times ready to contribute. Prior to his surgery he had not been getting many minutes and had only showed flashes when he was in there. Christmas and Keita have already been discussed on this board. Finally, as well as they have been playing defense, it could still be, and may become, better. At times I still sense a lack of coordination and communication. There has been too much dribble penetration and too many people getting behind the zone when the wings come up to help the guards. Hopefully JB will coach them up, throw in some wrinkles, and confuse the opposition.
