The New 1970s Lyrics Game

April 24, 2008 2:30 am

The concept is simple:  Name the tune for the last lyric posted, then post a lyric of your own to be guessed.

Try to keep the songs from the 1970s, but there's no need to get anal about it; if it slips into the 60s or 80s by a couple of years, we can overlook that.

I can't really even begin to comprehend that attack I got from slump.  I suggested an opinion I have and I get such an intense personal attack??  All I can say is that calling my queer and talking about my kids and my mom is probably not something John Lennon would support.  I may have a few issues with Lennon but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't like that rant
SO I'M DONE.  Not even the music threads are safe anymore.  I should probably just let it slide and realize slump is just an angry and hateful person but it's just not worth it anymore.
The music threads have always been a special place to me to share my love for music with people who really love the songs and the words.  I will miss all of you and I wish you the best and that you continue to love the music.
Thanks for the memories Rock, Rhino, Clean, and others.

Hey Trav, I called out Slump for that attack. By bowing out, you give guys like that more ammunition. Don't let them win and please, stick around.

Well, we've been doing Thanks and Giving songs since...well...Thanksgiving so it's probably time for a new theme.
And even that "nice" theme couldn't keep the peace in here.
Playing off of clean's last song, how about songs or lyrics that mention any kind of FURNITURE?

First up:
across my big brass bed
Whatever colors you have in your mind
I'll show them to you and you'll see them shine

Lay Lady Lay - Bob Dylan

Then suddenly we heard the sirens
And everybody started to run
A jumpin' out of doors and tables

Going to the candidates debate
Laugh about it, shout about it

Mrs. Robinson - Simon and Garfunkel. I always thought Long Cool Woman's guitar hooks were patterned after Creedence.

She said a bad day is when I lie in bed
And think of things that might have been

Here are those silly lyrics we've talked about in here before.
But this guy deserves some props for finally making it into the Hall Of Fame:

To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair

NEXT LYRICS: Another chance to resort to one of my first favorite singer/songwriters

I plopped down in my easy chair and turned on Channel 2
A bad gunslinger called Salty Sam was chasin' poor Sweet Sue
He trapped her in the old sawmill and said with an evil laugh,
"If you don't give me the deed to your ranch
I'll saw you all in half!"
And then he grabbed her (and then)
He tied her up (and then)
He turned on the bandsaw (and then, and then...!)

NEXT LYRICS:  BONUS POINTS for finding the connection between the composer and my favorite board bame of the 60s.  And yes, I owned my own king-sized waterbed in the late 70s.

I just bought a waterbed it's filled up for me and you
They say you are a snuff queen
Honey I don't think that's true

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYBODY!!!!!!!

NEXT LYRICS: A strange time of the year for a baseball song

Well, I spent some time in the Mudville Nine, watchin' it from the bench;
You know I took some lumps when the Mighty Case struck out.
So Say Hey Willie, tell Ty Cobb and Joe DiMaggio;
Don't say "it ain't so", you know the time is now.

Centerfield - John Fogerty. There's never a bad time for a baseball song. Happy Holidays to all and see you Monday

But now I go for walks
To the movies, maybe to the park
I have a seat on the same old
bench
To watch the children play, uh
You know tomorrow is their future
But for me just another day
